The accurate distribution of flow rate has been a very important part to control the air change rate since introduction of house ventilation system. An inappropriate selection of fan due to incorrect prediction of pressure loss in duct brings energy loss. In the previous study the pressure loss of general spiral duct was measured and database was constructed for finding correct loss factors in fitting upper stream. The purpose of this study is to compare and investigate the error range of flow rate by applying T-Method to bilateral symmetry and asymmetry layout of duct. The results of this study are as following. It is demanded to decide accurate size under duct design for house ventilation system. Because the small amount of Flow rate was considered at that time. The error range was 3.17% on case1 and 3.52% on case2. The error range difference was 0.35%.
A cross-flow fan is generally used on the region within the low static pressure difference and the high flow rate. It relatively makes high dynamic pressure at low rotating speed because a working fluid passes through an impeller blade twice and blades have a forward curved shape. At off-design points, there are a rapid pressure head reduction, a noise increase and an unsteady flow. Those phenomena are remarkably influenced by the setting angle of a stabilizer. Therefore, it should be considered how the setting angle of a stabilizer affects on the performance and the flow fields of a cross-flow fan. It is also required to investigate the effect of the volumetric flow rate before occurring stall. Two-dimensional, unsteady governing equations are solved using a commercial code, STAR-CD, which uses FVM. PISO algorithm, sliding grid system and standard k - ε turbulence model are also adopted. Pressure and velocity profiles with various setting angles are graphically depicted. Furthermore, the meridional velocity profiles around the impeller are plotted with different flow rates for a given rotating speed.

A cross-flow fan is widely used on many industrial fields: mining industry, automobile and home appliances, etc. The design point of the cross-flow fan is generally based on the region within low static pressure and high flow rate. It relatively makes high dynamic pressure at low speed because a working fluid passes through an impeller blade twice. However, it has low static pressure efficiency between 30% and 40% because of relative high impact loss. Recently, in the air-conditioning systems, the operating behaviors at the off-design points are highly regarded to broaden the application area for various air-cooling loads. Especially, at the lower flow rate, there exists a rapid pressure head reduction, a noise increase and an irregular flow field against a rearguider as a scroll of centrifugal fan. Numerical analyses are carried out for investigating the flow characteristics in a cross-flow fan including the impeller, the rearguider and the stabilizer. Especially, various types of rearguiders are estimated by numerical and experimental methods to insure the stable operation in the region of lower flow rate. Numerical domains are discretized by hexahedral cells. Three-dimensional, unsteady governing equations are solved using FVM, PISO algorithm, sliding grid system and standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. ASHRAE standard fan tester is also used to estimate the performance of the modeled crossflow fan.

Purpose : Cancer survivors often suffer from postoperative sequelae. the diagnosing and provision of manual therapy using spiral taping significantly improves the quality of life of cancer patients. The aim of this case study is to investigate the immediate effects of spiral taping on pain, range of motion (ROM), chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN), and lymphedema following breast cancer surgery. Methods : The taping techniques were performed as follows by spiral taping. The measurements were taken before, in the middle, and after taping using a mobile phone camera, tape measure, and a numerical rating score (NRS). The evaluation employed a single-group pre-post design based on a primitive experimental design. Results : Out of four patients, all four exhibited Reverse circle flow energy (RCFE), Passive cervical right (Rt) rotation test, anterior-posterior movement pattern, nerve type (+), cold energy (CE), sangcho acupuncture point, blood clot, hwal point. Comparing before and after treatment, almost all values were reduced to zero after treatment in terms of pain complaints. The lack of range of motion (ROM) caused by the shortened tissue after surgery did not increase. The range of motion (ROM) lost due to pain returned to normal. The circumference of lymphedema did not show a tendency. The symptoms of CIPN improved. Conclusion : There was a significant change in joint range of motion, with pain decreasing, but there were structural limitations in the tissue due to total resection, and the chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy scale. It was effectively treated surgical site pain, axillary membrane syndrome-induced pain, and unexplained pain. While there was a treatment effect for lymphedema in the evaluation of circumference values, there was no significant change in circumference. There was a significant effect on chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, particularly in treating numbness in the feet, which is a side effect of TC anticancer drugs. This case study found that spiral balance taping provides a rapid therapeutic effect for most side effects in patients who have undergone total breast cancer resection. However, the generalization is limited due to the small sample size, and further research is needed to determine the extent to which the effects of one treatment are maintained.
This study is to investigate the air flow around a sirocco fan which is used in a range hood. The main object of the study is to improve the flow rate of the fan by analysis of unsteady 3-dimensional incompressible flow. Overall analysis is carried out using CFD method. For this, we used a commercial code, SC/Tetra, and used a sliding mesh method to give the same condition as an actual state. First, verification of the CFD results is done by comparing the experimental data with the numerical data for the suction flow rate. It is confirmed that two results are well consistent. Then for the improvent of flow rate, the effect of shape factors such as diameter ratio of fan, geometry of case, cut-off aperture and guide angle of case exit on the suction flow rate was considered. Especially, for a new design of housing, the principle of Archimedes spiral was used. The overall analysis was applied to a new design of housing, and the result showed an increase of flow rate by 10.7%.

A cross-flow fan consists of an impeller, a stabilizer and a rearguider. When it applied for an air conditioner, an evaporator should be added. It relatively makes high dynamic pressure at low speed because a working fluid passes through an impeller blade twice and blades have a forward curved shape. Therefore, the performance of a cross-flow fan is influenced 25% by the impeller, 60% by the rearguider and the stabilizer, 15% by the heat exchanger. At the low flow rate, there are a rapid pressure head reduction, a noise increase and an unsteady flow against a stabilizer and a rearguider. Moreover, the reciprocal relation between the impeller and the flow passage is the important factor for performance improvement of the cross-flow tan because each parameter is independent. The performance characteristics in the cross-flow fan are graphically depicted with various impeller outlet angles and rearguiders.

In this study, we performed computational fluid dynamic simulations to explore how the detailed design of drug-eluting stents affects both the flow field in the vicinity of the stent as well as the concentration of the eluted drug at the endothelial cell surface. Simulations were performed on three idealized stent geometries we developed and on geometries approximating three commercial stents,: Medtronic's Aurora stent, Cordis's BX Velocity stent, and Boston Scientific's Wallstent. An important contribution of the present study is the introduction of the stent effectiveness index (EI), which provides a quantitative assessment of stent performance and an objective basis for comparing the performance of different stents. Among the three commercial stents studied, our simulations have revealed that the BX Velocity stent is associated with the lowest in-stent EI values for the range of flow Reynolds numbers studied ($200{\leq}Re{\leq}800$). In addition to commercial stent designs, we investigated the EI in three idealized stents and determined that a spiral stent provides excellent performance (low EI) under all flow conditions investigated.
In this paper, it was investigated how the amount of energy harvesting will be varied from the FTEH which has inlet area is wider than outer area and attaching cantilever type MFC (Macro Fiber Composite) using by theoretical and experimental approaches. When MFC length increased 50 % vibration displacement also increased 3.5 times. When thickness decreased vibration displacement increased 30.9 times. In underwater tank experiments FTEH with spiral screw, flexible support, vertical direction fabrication cases showed maximum energy harvesting more 5 times than the case of MFC installed horizontally without spiral screws and on rigid supports. When the flow speed of 0.24 m/s FTEH's optimal resistance applied 4,10 kΩ, energy storage in the capacitor was measured 4 ㎼·s during 350 seconds. It was confirmed that the charging energy can be increased by lengthening the capacitor charging time of the large-area MFC installed vertically on the flexible support at high flow speed.

The objectives of this study were to develop the optimal structures of recirculating aquaculture tank for improving the removal efficiency of solid materials and maintaining water quality conditions. Flow analysis was performed using the CFD (computational fluid dynamics) method to understand the hydrodynamic characteristics of the circular tank according to the angle of inclination in the tank bottom (0°, 1.5° and 3°), circulating water inflow method (underwater, horizontal nozzle, vertical nozzle and combination nozzle) and the number of inlets. As the angle in tank bottom increased, the vortex inside the tank decreased, resulting in a constant flow. In the case of the vertical nozzle type, the eddy flow in the tank was greatly improved. The vertical nozzle type showed excellent flow such as constant flow velocity distribution and uniform streamline. The combination nozzle type also showed an internal spiral flow, but the vortex reduction effect was less than the vertical nozzle type. As the number of inlets in the tank increased, problems such as speed reduction were compensated, resulting in uniform fluid flow.

The filling pattern and an adaptive grid refinement based on the finite element method and Eulerian mesh advancement approach have been developed to analyze incompressible transient viscous flow with free surfaces. The governing equation fur flow analysis is Navier-Stokes equation including inertia and gravity effects. The mixed FE formulation and predictor-corrector method are used effectively for unsteady numerical simulation. The flow front surface and the volume inflow rate are calculated using the filling pattern technique to select an adequate pattern among seven filling patterns at each tetrahedral control volume. By adaptive grid refinement, the new flow field that renders better prediction in flow surface shape is generated and the velocity field at the flow front part is calculated more exactly. In this domain the elements in the surface region are made finer than those in the remaining regions for more efficient computation. The collapse of a water dam and the filling of a fluidity spiral have been analyzed. The numerical results have been in good agreement with the experimental results and the efficiency of the adaptive grid refinement and filling pattern techniques have been verified.
