Spinal cysticercosis is a very uncommon manifestation of neurocysticercosis which is caused by the larvae of Taenia solium. However, it can develop as a primary infection through blood stream or direct larval migration. It can result in high recurrence and severe neurologic morbidity if not treated appropriately. We report the case of a 43-year-old woman who presented with severe lower back pain and left leg radiating pain in recent 2 weeks. Magnetic resonance image (MRI) of lumbar spine demonstrated extruded disc at the L5-S1 level combined with intradural extramedullary cystic lesion. We performed the open lumbar microdiscectomy (OLM) at L5-S1 on the left with total excision of cystic mass. After surgery, the patient showed an improvement of previous symptoms. Diagnosis was confirmed by histopathological examination as intradural extramedullary cysticercosis. We discuss clinical features, diagnostic screening, and treatment options of spinal cysticercosis.
The intervertebral disc in the anterior portion of the function unit gives the spine its flexibility. The disc is attached closely to the vertebral endplates. Between these endplates and the annulus fibrosus, the nucleus pulposus of the lumbar disc is enclosed in a circle of unyielding tissues. Compressive pressure placed on the disc is dissipated circumferentially in a passive manner In response to the greater axial forced exerted on the lumbar spine in comparison to the cervical and thoracic spines, the nucleus pulposus has its greatest surface area in the lumbar spine. The intervertebral disc is not only structure that helps diss pate stresses placed on the spine. With flexion, extension, rotation, or shear stress, the load distribution on the function unit is shared by the intervertebral disc, anterior and posterior longitudinal ligaments, the facet joints and capsules, and other ligamentous structures like the ligamentum flavum, interspinous and supraspinous ligaments, which attach to the posterior elements of the functional unit.
Purpose: This study was to report the effect and safety of oriental medical treament in the pregnant woman diagnosed to herniated of nucleus pulposus(HNP) at L-spine. Methods: The patient was diagnosed with HNP at L-spine during Pregnancy. She was treated by herb medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion. Their symptoms was disappeared. Results: After treatment, most symptoms decreased, VAS score changed 10 to 2, ODI changed 41 to 20. Conclusions: The oriental medical treament(herb medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion) relieves HNP at L-spine during Pregnancy.
Pediatric spine has growth potential with incomplete ossification, and also unique biomechanics which have important implications for trauma patients. This article intends to review various aspects of pediatric spine trauma including epidemiology, anatomy and biomechanics, and clinically relevant details of each type of injury based on the location and mechanism of injury. With the appropriate but not superfluous treatment, pediatric spine trauma patients can have better chance of recovery. Therefore, as a spine surgeon, understanding the general concept for each injury subtype together with the debate and progress in the field is inevitable.

The Korean Society of Radiology and the National Evidence-based Healthcare Collaborating Agency developed a primary imaging test for suspected traumatic thoracolumbar spine injury. This guideline was developed using an adaptation process involving collaboration between the development committee and the working group. The development committee, consisting of research methodology experts, established the overall plan and provided support on research methodology. The working group, composed of radiologists with expertise in musculoskeletal imaging, wrote the recommendation. The guidelines recommend that thoracolumbar spine computed tomography without intravenous contrast enhancement be the first-line imaging modality for diagnosing traumatic thoracolumbar spine injury in adults.
Objectives : This research was to evaluate the MST effectiveness on iliopsoas muscle of herniated inter-vertebral disc in lumbar spine. Methods : This research was carried out with the 58 inpatients who received treatment for their HIVD in lumbar spine from January 1 to April 12, 2014 in Daejeon Jaseng hospital of oriental medicine. We randomly divided into two groups: Group A=common treatment on HIVD of L-spine without MST(acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herb medication, chuna treating and physiotherapy) and Group B=common treatment on HIVD of L-spine with MST. To verify the MST effect, tenderness(checked by algometer pressure), NRS(numeric rating scale), and ODI(Oswestry disability index) were measured before and after treatment. The statistically significance was evaluated by SPSS 18.0 for Windows. Results : In the Group B, the tenderness was significantly decreased compared with Group A. However, on the NRS and ODI, it did not produce the meaningful results as these two values decreased in all groups. Conclusions : From this research, when patients who were diagnosed HIVD of L-spine with iliopsoas muscles tenderness receive MST additionally, the satisfaction of patients as well as physician confidence will increase.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of regularly strength exercise of spine in teenagers with tutor. Method: Study subjects were 24 middle school students. They were arranged to 2 groups(n=12, respectively). Then experimental group did regularly strength exercise of spine as the handout maneuver during 50min/day and 1day/week in 8 weeks with tutor, but control group did regularly exercise of spine as same maneuver without tutor. For muscle strength of both extensor and flexor of lumbar, the balancing ability and weight distribution index were measured before and after the intervention. Results: For muscle strength of both extensor and flexor of lumbar, there was not significant differences after the intervention, but both flexor and extensor increase mean value of muscle strength than control group. For balancing ability and weight distribution index, there were not significant difference after intervention(p>.05), but experimental group show a tendency to decrease in a few position than control group. Conclusion: When teenagers regularly exercise for spine strengthening for a long time with tutor, it may be increased muscle strength of lumbar and trunk balance.

PURPOSE: This study was to investigate of pain and spine shape in elementary school students. The aim of this study was to prevent pain and spinal misalignment is to provide basic data and the need for regular screening for elementary school students. METHODS: This study had a survey research about pain and spine shape by using questionnaires and Formetric 4D. Subjects were 301 Elementary School Students RESULTS: In the presence or absence of pain and the presence of pain was in a high proportion and many of them indicated the back as a pain area, As a result of the spine shape contour, pelvic tilt was normal and trunk inclination was asymmetric as well as thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis were diminished. There was a significant difference in relationship of trunk inclination according to pain CONCLUSION: The asymmetric of trunk inclination influenced the pain, In contrast, the pain did not influence thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis in diminished. but, the diminution in thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis are potential sources of pain. Regular checkups are necessary to prevent elementary school students from a change of spine shape and a pain, Moreover, education of maintaining normal posture should be followed.

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to find out the evidence concerning the effectiveness of manual therapy intervention in the treatment of low back pain related to spondylolisthesis Methods : 12men with lumbar pain from L5~S1 spondylolisthesis of 2 or 3 grade were treated during 12-week period. The manual therapy applied twice per week. The results of back and radiating pain were measured by VAS, and abdominal muscle strength was measured by Power track II. The measurement of degree of slip in spondylolisthesis was confirmed by the lateral view of X-ray and took a measurements of the anterior displacement of a vertebral body in relation to the vertebral below. Results : 1. There was significant decrease in the back and radiating pain.(p<0.05) 2. There was significant increase in the abdominal muscle strength.(p<0.05). 3. There was significant decrease in the degree of the anterior displacement. Conclusion: The intervention of manual therapy for lumbar spondylolisthesis is effective in back pain, radiating pain, abdominal muscle strength and degree of the anterior displacement. So, nonsurgical treatment should be attempted before surgical treatment.

Aneurysmal bone cysts are uncommon bony lesions of the spine. Approximately 3-20% of the aneurysmal bone cysts occur in the spine, predominantly in the lumbar region, but they may occur at the any level of the spine. These lesions commonly arise from the neural arch and occasionally invade the pedicle and the vertebral body. The clinical diagnosis of a spinal lesion can be very difficult in the early stages of the disease because specific symptoms and signs are usually absent or only amount to back pain. However, depending on the level of involvement and the extent of neurological compression, a wide variety of neurological symptoms and signs may appear, ranging from mild radicular symptoms to complete paraplegia or tetraplegia. Available treatment options include complete excision or curettage of the lesion with bone graft, but where excision cannot be achieved, low dose radiation or arterial embolization may be used. We report a case of aneurysmal bone cyst in the pedicle of the T10 spine with nonstructural scoliosis of $40^{\circ}$ Cobb's angle which was treated successfully with only curettage of the lesion.
