Long slit spectrometers are widely used in optical and infrared bands in astronomy. Absolute flux calibration for extended sources, however, is not straightforward, because a portion of the radiation energy from a flux calibration star is blocked by the narrow slit width. Assuming that the point spread function(PSF) of the star is circularly symmetric, we develop a robust method to extrapolate the detected stellar flux to the unobscured flux using the measured PSF along the slit-length direction. We apply this method to our long slit data and prove that the uncertainty of the absolute flux calibration is less than a few percents.

The purpose on this study is to optimize the chromatographic determination method of trace aldehydes in ambient air. Carbonyl compounds in urban air were trapped at $C_{18}$ DNPH-coated cartridges, and generated hydrazone derivatives were separated by HPLC and detected by UV-vis spectroscopic detector at 360nm. Formaldehyde and acetaldehyde compounds could be isolated from urban(Seoul) air with more than 95% collection efficiency. The analytical detection limits for formaldehyde and acetaldehyde are 0.06pp $b_{v}$, 0.08pp $b_{v}$ for 108 L air samples, respectively. The precision of this method are 3 .sim. 4%(RSD) for mutiple injection of hydrazone standards. Separation of seven dinitrophenylhydrazones could be achieved in appoximately 20 minutes operation time using $C_{18}$ column with apprepriate eluent. The method was applied to the analysis of aldehydes and ketone in Seoul ambient air. The 24-h ambient levels of formaldehyde, acetaldehyde reached up to 6 .sim. 14 and 3 .sim. 8ppbv, respectively. The daily average concentration ratio were 0.60 for acetaldehyde/formaldehyde.yde.

Various Cu ions are discharged into water from various industries, which results in a severe trouble for groundwater, soil, air, and eventually animals and humans. In this work, graphene oxide (GO) is introduced as a Cu removal absorber and the real-time monitoring method is demonstrated. The results show that GO is a very effective material to absorb Cu ions in the solution. In addition, the residual Cu ions in the solution is monitored via optical transmittance method, which well match with Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP-MS) analysis.

The aim of this study is to develop the $^1H$-MRS data postprocessing software for both single-voxel and multi-voxel technique, which plays and important role as a diagnostic tool in clinical field. This software is based on graphical user interface(GUI) under windows operating system of personal computer(PC). In case of single-voxel MRS, both of raw data in time-domain and spectrum data in frequency-domain are simultaneously displayed in a screen. Several functions such as DC correction, zero filling, line broadening, Lorentz-Gauss filtering and phase correction, etc. are included to increase the quality of spectrum data. In case of multi-voxel analysis, spectroscopic image reconstructed by 3-D FFT was displayed as a spectral grid and overlapped over previously obtained T1- or T2-weighted image for the spectra to be spatially registered with the image. The analysis of MRS peaks were performed by obtaining the ratio of peak area. In single-voxel method, statistically processed peak-area ratios of MRS data obtained from normal human brain are presented. Using multi-voxel method, MR spectroscopic image and metabolite image acquired from brain tumor are demonstrated.

The second generation of stars in the globular clusters (GCs) of the Milky Way (MW) exhibit unusually high N, Na, or Al, compared to typical Galactic halo stars at similar metallicities. The halo field stars enhanced with such elements are believed to have originated in disrupted GCs or escaped from existing GCs. We identify such stars in the metallicity range -3.0 < [Fe/H] < 0.0 from a sample of ~36,800 giant stars observed in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey and Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope survey, and present their dynamical properties. The N-rich population (NRP) and N-normal population (NNP) among our giant sample do not exhibit similarities in either in their metallicity distribution function (MDF) or dynamical properties. We find that, even though the MDF of the NRP looks similar to that of the MW's GCs in the range of [Fe/H] < -1.0, our analysis of the dynamical properties does not indicate similarities between them in the same metallicity range, implying that the escaped members from existing GCs may account for a small fraction of our N-rich stars, or the orbits of the present GCs have been altered by the dynamical friction of the MW. We also find a significant increase in the fraction of N-rich stars in the halo field in the very metal-poor (VMP; [Fe/H] < -2.0) regime, comprising up to ~20% of the fraction of the N-rich stars below [Fe/H] = -2.5, hinting that partially or fully destroyed VMP GCs may have in some degree contributed to the Galactic halo. A more detailed dynamical analysis of the NRP reveals that our sample of N-rich stars do not share a single common origin. Although a substantial fraction of the N-rich stars seem to originate from the GCs formed in situ, more than 60% of them are not associated with those of typical Galactic populations, but probably have extragalactic origins associated with Gaia Sausage/Enceladus, Sequoia, and Sagittarius dwarf galaxies, as well as with presently unrecognized progenitors.

Quantitative analysis of 5-hydroxymethylfufural (5-HMF) conversion from fructose by dehydration and rearrangement was investigated by $^1H$-NMR spectroscopic method. Fructose was converted to 5-HMF in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)-$d^6$ or acidic deuterium hydroxide at controlled reaction temperature and time. With addition of internal standards (biphenyl for DMSO-$d^6$ solvent, and 2,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid for deuterium oxide solvent), conversion from fructose to 5-HMF was analyzed by $^1H$-NMR spectroscopy. Quantitative analysis was run by comparison with peak area integration between of 5-HMF and internal standard. In DMSO solvent, 5-HMF was stable end product but part of 5-HMF was converted to formic and levulinic acid at acidic aqueous medium.
The degradation of methyl blue (MB) catalyzed by platinum (Pt)-graphene/$TiO_2$ in dark ambiance was studied. Pt-graphene/$TiO_2$ composites were prepared by simple hydrothermal method. Characterizations of composites were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), specific surface area (BET) analysis, and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. UV-spectroscopic analysis of the dyes was performed by measuring the change in absorbance. The degradation of the organic dyes was calculated based on the decrease in concentration of the dyes with respect to regular time intervals. Rate coefficients for the catalytic process were successfully established and reusability tests were performed to test the stability of the used catalysts.
For the quality control of Kalopanacis Cortex, saponin compound, kalopanax-saponin B was isolated from the MeOH extract of Kalopanacis Cortex, and identified by the spectroscopic evidences. A quantitative analysis of kalopanaxsapo-nits B using HPLC method showed that the average contents was $1.010{\pm}0.212%$, respectively, in 22 samples collected through-out the regions of Korea.
High-resolution $^1H$ NMR spectroscopic technique has been widely used as one of the most powerful analytical tools in food chemistry as well as to define molecular structure. The $^1H$ NMR spectra-based metabolomics has focused on classification and chemometric analysis of complex mixtures. The principal component analysis (PCA), an unsupervised clustering method and used to reduce the dimensionality of multivariate data, facilitates direct peak quantitation and pattern recognition. Using a combination of these techniques, the various green teas and black teas brewed were investigated via metabolite profiling. These teas were characterized based on the leaf size and country of cultivation, respectively.

Many kinds of experiments were performed for the quality control of antifoaming agents used in thermal power pIants of KEPCO. We tried to establish more convenient ans more accurate quantitative analytical method to determine the amount of silicone oil in silicone oil type antifoaming agent regardless of the amount and/or the type of involved surface active agents. First, the amount of silicone oil was measured by gravimetric method or centrifugal method using very simple apparatus, and then was compared to the results of FT-lR spectroscopy. The centrifugal method was turned out a poor method depending upon the recovery test and virtual experiments. Some antifoaming agents showed very similar results between gravimetric method and spectroscopic methods, and the others gave very different results. We concluded that FT-lR spectroscopy is the most convenient and reliable methodto determine the amounts of silicone oil in the antifoaming agents.
