  • Near-infrared (NIR) system was used to determine rapidly and simply indomethacin in buffer solution for a dissolution test for tablets and capsules. Indomethacin standards were prepared ranging from 10 to 50ppm using mixture of phosphate buffer(pH 7,2) and water(1:4), The near infrared(NIR) transmittance spectra of indomethacin standard solutions were collected by using a quartz cell in 1 mm and 2mm pathlength, Partial least-square regression (PLSR) was explored to develop calibration models over the spectral range 1100-1700nm.   • It can gain both the electric energy production and disperse of light at the same time if DSSC is applied in the building as window system. It means to help facade design and to be used in lighting, heating, cooling energy directly by applicating DSSC BIPV window that is possible to daylighting and materialization of color. For this, optical characteristics analysis that is basic step must take precedence. So, basic databases of DSSC are builded and optical performances according to the double and triple glazing are evaluated by analyzing spectral data of various colored DSSC. As a result, Green(4) has the highest visible transmittance that is 28.8%, and Blue(3) has the lowest that is 0.3%. And, in case of optical performance of Green(4) depending on the incidence angle, SHGC and Tsol are decreased sharply from more than $60^{\circ}C$. Finally, It is judged that Red(4), Green(1), (4), Blue(4) are suitable for application in office building because visible transmittance is high and solar heat gain coefficient is low relatively in spite of composing to double and triple glazing.

Determination of optical constants for organic light emitting material of Alq3 using Forouhi-Bloomer dispersion relations (포로히-블루머(Forouhi-Bloomer) 분산식을 이용한 유기발광물질 Alq3의 광학 상수 결정)

  • We determined the optical constants of organic light emitting material of Alq$_3$ in a spectral range between 1.5 and 6 eV using the physical model introduced by Forouhi and Bloomer[Phys. Rev. B 34, pp. 7018-7026, 1986.]. The initial parameters of $A_i,\;B_i,\;C_i$ of Forouhi-Bloomer dispersion relations were determined from the absorption peaks and widths of absorption spectra of the Alq$_3$ film. The refractive index of substrate, a fused silica, is derived from the Sellmeier equation with the measured transmittance and reflectance spectra. Then, the complex refractive index and thickness of the Alq$_3$ film were calculated by use of a nonlinear least square fitting program with the Forouhi-Bloomer dispersion relation and the measured transmittance and reflectance spectra.

Prediction of Soluble Solids Content of Chestnut using VIS/NIR Spectroscopy

  • Purpose: The present study focused on the estimation of soluble solids content (SSC) of chestnut using reflectance and transmittance spectra in range of VIS/NIR. Methods: Four species intact/peeled chestnuts were used for acquisition of spectral data. Transmittance and reflectance spectra were used to develop the best PLS model to estimate SSC of chestnut. Results: The model developed with the transmitted energy spectra of peeled chestnuts rather than intact chestnuts and with range of NIR rather than VIS performed better. The best $R^2$ and RMSEP of cross validation were represented as 0.54 and $1.85^{\circ}Brix$. The results presented that the reflectance spectra of peeled chestnuts by species showed the best performance to predict SSC of chestnut. $R^2$ and RMSEP were 0.55 and $1.67^{\circ}Brix$. Conclusions: All developed models showed RMSEP around $1.44{\sim}2.54^{\circ}Brix$, which is considered not enough to estimate SSC accurately. It was noted that $R^2$ of cross validation that we found were not high. For all that, grading of the fruits in two or three classes of SSC during postharvest handling seems possible with an inexpensive spectrophotometer. Furthermore, the development of estimation of SSC by each chestnut species could be considered in that SSC distribution is clustering in different range by species.

Applications of Discrete Wavelet Analysis for Predicting Internal Quality of Cherry Tomatoes using VIS/NIR Spectroscopy

  • Purpose: This study evaluated the feasibility of using a discrete wavelet transform (DWT) method as a preprocessing tool for visible/near-infrared spectroscopy (VIS/NIRS) with a spectroscopic transmittance dataset for predicting the internal quality of cherry tomatoes. Methods: VIS/NIRS was used to acquire transmittance spectrum data, to which a DWT was applied to generate new variables in the wavelet domain, which replaced the original spectral signal for subsequent partial least squares (PLS) regression analysis and prediction modeling. The DWT concept and its importance are described with emphasis on the properties that make the DWT a suitable transform for analyzing spectroscopic data. Results: The $R^2$ values and root mean squared errors (RMSEs) of calibration and prediction models for the firmness, sugar content, and titratable acidity of cherry tomatoes obtained by applying the DWT to a PLS regression with a set of spectra showed more enhanced results than those of each model obtained from raw data and mean normalization preprocessing through PLS regression. Conclusions: The developed DWT-incorporated PLS models using the db5 wavelet base and selected approximation coefficients indicate their feasibility as good preprocessing tools by improving the prediction of firmness and titratable acidity for cherry tomatoes with respect to $R^2$ values and RMSEs.

  • Thermochromic $Vo_{2}$ thin films for "smart windows" were prepared by electron beam evaporationmethod on a glass substrate and spectral transmittances were examined by spectrophotometer. Substratetemperature of $300^{\circ}C$ and annealing temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ were found to be effective to give athermochromism on $Vo_{2}$ thin film due to the crystallization of the thin film. Furthermore, annealing of$Vo_{2}$ thin film affected the spectral transmittance and reduced the transmittance significantly at wavelengthbelow 500nm.$V_{0.95}W_{0.05}O_{2}$ thin film doped by 5 atomic percent of W showed semiconductor-metal transition around 0$0^{\circ}V_{0.995}W_{0.005}O_{2}$thin film which contains 0.5 atomic percent Sn showed therrnochrornisrn when it was depositedat substrate temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ and annealed at $450^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours in argon gas. The transitiontemperature of the $V_{0.995}W_{0.005}O_{2}$ thin film was found to be about $25^{\circ}C$ and showed some hysterisis. and showed some hysterisis.

  • This paper reports the preparation and characterization of colored coatings of $Al_2O_3$-CoO. Films of 25mol% CoO doped $Al_2O_3$, have been prepared on soda-lime-silica slide glasses by the sol-gel process from Al-alkoxide and Co-nitrate. The films have been characterized by a photospectroscopy and hardness tester. The color, spectral reflectance and spectral transmittance of the films was expressed in Lab color chart and on spectra plot. Microhardness of the films increased with increasing of the heating temperature. Transmittance and reflectance of the films decreased with increase of the heating temperature and coating times. The coating films showed various light-yellow, deep-yellow, greenish-yellow color as a function of the coating times and heating temperature.

Atmospheric correction by Spectral Shape Matching Method (SSMM): Accounting for horizontal inhomogeneity of the atmosphere

  • The current spectral shape matching method (SSMM), developed by Ahn and Shanmugam (2004), relies on the assumption that the path radiance resulting from scattered photons due to air molecules and aerosols and possibly direct-reflected light from the air-sea interface is spatially homogeneous over the sub-scene of interest, enabling the retrieval of water-leaving radiances ($L_w$) from the satellite ocean color image data. This assumption remains valid for the clear atmospheric conditions, but when the distribution of aerosol loadings varies dramatically the above postulation of spatial homogeneity will be violated. In this study, we present the second version of SSMM which will take into account the horizontal variations of aerosol loading in the correction of atmospheric effects in SeaWiFS ocean color image data. The new version includes models for the correction of the effects of aerosols and Raleigh particles and a method fur computation of diffuse transmittance ($t_{os}$) as similar to SeaWiFS. We tested this method over the different optical environments and compared its effectiveness with the results of standard atmospheric correction (SAC) algorithm (Gordon and Wang, 1994) and those from in-situ observations. Findings revealed that the SAC algorithm appeared to distort the spectral shape of water-leaving radiance spectra in suspended sediments (SS) and algal bloom dominated-areas and frequently yielded underestimated or often negative values in the lower green and blue part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Retrieval of water-leaving radiances in coastal waters with very high sediments, for instance = > 8g $m^{-3}$, was not possible with the SAC algorithm. As the current SAC algorithm does not include models for the Asian aerosols, the water-leaving radiances over the aerosol-dominated areas could not be retrieved from the image and large errors often resulted from an inappropriate extrapolation of the estimated aerosol radiance from two IR bands to visible spectrum. In contrast to the above results, the new SSMM enabled accurate retrieval of water-leaving radiances in a various range of turbid waters with SS concentrations from 1 to 100 g $m^{-3}$ that closely matched with those from the in-situ observations. Regardless of the spectral band, the RMS error deviation was minimum of 0.003 and maximum of 0.46, in contrast with those of 0.26 and 0.81, respectively, for SAC algorithm. The new SSMM also remove all aerosol effects excluding areas for which the signal-to-noise ratio is much lower than the water signal.

  • The color filter os made in four methods ; dyeing, printing electrodisposition and pigment dispersed method. Among technologies for color filter manufacture, pigment-dispersed and hybrid method are dominant over all others in commercial manufacture of large scale, fine resolution color filter for liquid crystal display. In this paper to investigate the possibility of the color filter manufacture for LCD by screen printing method, we synthesyzed PVA/sbQ screen emulation for high resolution, estimated image of printed fine pattern and manufactured color filter by screen printing. Results of the study are as follow and found the screen printing method os useful and valid from it. 1. Fine pattern is formed due to photocyclodomerization of -C=C- bond at 342nm, on the other hand unexposured parts are removed in water. 2. sharpness and resolution of fine pattern is improved at mesh streching angle 22.5 and 45 than 0 degree. It is expected due to resistance between inks and mesh streching angles. 3. Spectral characteristics of sample inks were R(640nm), G(535nm), B(470nm), transmittance were R(92%), G(79%), B(70%) and chromaticity coordinate values were R(0.62,0.33), G(0.32,0.59), B(0.14,0.17)

  • In the total artificial heart(TAH), a transcutaneous information transmission system(TITS) is vely important to monitor the TAH status and detect the device failure, and repair the possible problems. First of all, the communication channel(skin) and method were simulated in terms of transmittance, scattering, reflection and absorption, then the system was designed with size reduction including low power consumption and reliability compared to the previous one. The informations are transmitted through the skin(approximately 1cm in depth) by frequency modulated near infrared(NIR) pulses using 780nm laser diodes as transmitters and photodiode as receiver with high speed and high spectral sensitivity. The logic high and low frequencies are 3MHz, 1MHz respectively. The system is a bidirectional data link for more than 38.4Kbps data rate, full-duplex with a bit error rate of less than $10^{-5}$.
