  • The behavior of optical properties of ion exchanged glasses was investigated inthis study. The used glasses were soda-lime-silica glasses that were produced by float process. The coloring effect by Ag colloids is measrued by spectral transmittance, color coordinates, dominant wavelength and excitation purity resulting from silver ions exchange of glasses immersed into the mixed molten salt with AgNO3. Ion exchange coloring of glasses made it possible to obtain glasses with a range from yellow to brown, and transmittance was decreased with increasing the amount of Ag colloids which reduced from Ag+ions. Also, obtain from yellow to reddish brown with increasing purity by reheating treatment in air for ion exchanged glasses. The size of Ag colloids are 0.02~0.1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ with ion exchange conditions.

  • We studied surface texture-etching of glass substrate by using reactive ion etching process with various working pressure (0.7~9.0 mT). With the increase in the pressure, a haze parameter, which means diffusive transmittance/total transmittance, was increased in overall wavelength regions, as measured by spectrophotometer. Also, atomic force microscopy (AFM) study also showed that the surface topography transformed from V-shaped, keen surface to U-shaped, flattened surface, which is beneficial for nanocrystalline silicon semiconductor growth with suppressing defective crack formation. The texture-etched ZnO:Al combined with textured glass exhibited pronounced haze properties that showed 60~90 % in overall spectral wavelength regions. This promising optical properties of double textured, transparent conducting substrate can be widely applied in silicon thin film photovoltaics and other optoelectronic devices.

  • A study that copolymerized Ag nanoparticle and furfuryl isocyanate with the crosslinking agent EGDMA (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate), HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate), MMA (methyl methacrylate), MA (methacrylic acid) and the initiating agent AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) is presented. Measurement of the physical characteristics of the produced macromolecule showed that the water content is 32.08~32.67%, refractive index 1.446~1.448, visible light transparency 83.2~67.6%, contact angle $68.2{\sim}83.5^{\circ}$ and tensile strength 0.541~0.755 kgf. It is also demonstrated that the addition of Ag nanoparticles is associated with the reduction of UV-B transmittance and increase in tensile strength. The results show that the produced copolymer can be used as a material for ophthalmic lenses with durability and UV-blocking properties.

  • To determine the impact of artificial tears which include carboxymethyl cellulose on a hydrogel contact lenses. Methods: A contact lenses made of the cross-linking agent, EGDMA (ethylene glycol dimethacrylate) and HEMA (2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate) and with added NVP (n-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) and MMA (methyl methacrylate) was evaluated for water content, refractive index, spectral transmittance and contact angle of produced contact lens. Results: The physical properties of the sampled copolymerized polymers showed that water content, refractive index, visible ray transmittance and contact angle were in the range of 26.61%~48.58%, 1.422~1.455, 80.8%~91.4% and $33.93^{\circ}{\sim}65.70^{\circ}$, respectively. In addition, after soaking with artificial tears, the water content, refractive index and contact angle were in the range of 24.46%~48.25%, 1.422~1.457, 77.0%~91.0% and $37.25^{\circ}{\sim}77.33^{\circ}$, respectively. The changes of the physical property depending on hydration time and showed an increase of refractive index and contact angle, decrease of water content and visible ray transmittance. Conclusions: Artificial tears which include carboxymethyl cellulose sodium which is used as a wetting agent influenced water content, refractive index, contact angle and spectral transmittance of a hydrogel contact lenses.

  • Here we designed and synthesized new zinc phthalocyanines and structures were fully confirmed by spectral and elemental analysis. All phthalocyanines have a very good solubility in industrial solvents like chloroform, dichloromethane, dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N-dimethyl formamide, propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate (PGMEA), acetone, tetrahydrofuran and acetonitrile. UV-Visible absorption and transmittance in PGMEA showed that these dyes have suitable spectral properties for LCD color filters. By Triton X surfactant study, we confirmed that these dyes are not showing any aggregation in PGMEA. We dissolved the all phthalocyanines in LCD fabricating solvent (PGMEA), and all phthalocyanines showed more than 8 wt% of solubility. Finally, all of these results concluded that PCK1, PCK2 and PCK3 are fit for LCD green color filter.

  • We have studied the optical effects in dielectric multilayer due to the interdiffusion formed during the deposition process. We suggest a numerical method to calculate the optical properties of periodical multilayer thin-films with gradient-index profiles. Using this method the spectral transmittance and reflectance were obtained for Fabry-Perot type filters, broad-band total reflectors and antireflection filters with interdiffusion layers. Interdiffusion reduced the spectral band width of high reflectance in total reflectors, and deteriorated the characteristics of multilayer AR-coatings leading to a large variation of reflectance if the number of the layers is large.

  • The periodic transmission spectrum of a solid etalon for wide-band capability is analyzed both theoretically and experimentally. In the transmission spectrum with an incident area of a photodetector, the peak wavelength and transmittance are deeply dependent on the incident angle and the divergence angle of the input laser beam. A thermal adjustment for a solid etalon is an optional way to control the transmission spectrum instead of the inefficient fine-angle alignment. In the result, we present the deviations of free spectral range (FSR) by the change in angle and temperature over wide wavelength range.

  • A simple analytical procedure using FT-NIR for the rapid determination of individual ingredients was evaluated. Direct measurements were made by reflection using a reflectance accessory, by transmittance using tablet accessory and turn table. FT-NIR spectral data were transformed to the first derivative. Partial Least Square Regression(PLSR) was applied to quantify near-infrared (NIR) spectra of 2 ingredients. These calibration models were cross-validated (leave-one-out approach). The prediction ability of the models was evaluated on ambroxol tablets and compared with the real values in manufacturing procedure. (omitted)

  • The watercore in apple is very important factor in storage and sorting of fruit. Most consumers tend to prefer the apple included watercore in immediately after harvest, however the watercore causes fruit flesh to brown during storage and lose the worth after all. But it is practically impossible to judge to the naked eye whether an apple has watercore or not. Therefore, the rapid, accurate and non-destructive analysis method for discrimination of watercore should be settled without delay. In this study we attempted the discrimination and quantitative analysis of watercore in apple fruit using near-infrared transmittance spectroscopy ‘Fuji’ apple fruits produced in Kyungpook of Korea was used in this experiment. The watercore content in apple was evaluated by graphic treatment of culled slice sections(10 mm). NIR transmittance spectra were collected over the 500 to 1000 nm spectral region with a spectrometer (Sentronic Co., Germany). The calibration models were carried out by partial least squares (PLS) analysis between NIR spectra data of apples and chemical data of watercore content. The spectra were different in absorbance between apple included watercore and not included one. Apple included watercore had higher absorption band than sample not included one at 732 and 820 nm. The calibration model seems to be accurate to predict the watercore content in apple fruit, the correlation coefficient (R) and root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) were 0.99 and 0.93%, respectively. This result indicates that the PLSR calibration model by using NIR transmittance spectroscopy could be used for discrimination of watercore in apple fruit.
