The damping modification factor (DMF) is used to modify the 5%-damped response spectrum to produce spectral values that correspond to other necessary damping ratios for seismic design. The DMF has been the subject of numerous studies, and it has been discovered that seismological parameters like magnitude and distance can have an impact on it. However, DMF formulations incorporating these seismological parameters cannot be directly applied to seismic design because these parameters are not specified in the present seismic codes. The goal of this study is to develop a formulation for the DMF that can be directly applied in seismic design and that takes the effects of magnitude, distance, and site conditions into account. To achieve this goal, 16660 ground motions with magnitudes ranging from 4 to 9 and epicentral distances ranging from 10 to 200 km are used to systematically study the effects of magnitude, distance, and site conditions on the DMF. Furthermore, according to the knowledge that magnitude and distance affect the DMF primarily by changing the spectral shape, a spectral shape factor is adopted to reflect influences of magnitude and distance, and a new formulation for the DMF incorporating the spectral shape factor is developed. In comparison to the current formulations, the proposed formulation provides a more accurate prediction of the DMF and can be employed directly in seismic design.

In continuous speech recognition system, it is possible to implement the system which can handle unlimited number of words by using limited number of phonetic units such as phonemes. Dividing continuous speech into the string of tems of phonemes prior to recognition process can lower the complexity of the system. But because of the coarticulations between neiboring phonemes, it is very difficult ot extract exactly their boundaries. In this paper, we propose the algorithm ot extract short terms which can represent each phonemes instead of extracting their boundaries. The short terms of lower spectral change and higher spectral chang eare detcted. Then phoneme changes are detected using distance measure with this lower spectral change terms, and hgher spectral change terms are regarded as transition terms or short phoneme terms. Finally lower spectral change terms and the mid-term of higher spectral change terms are regarded s the represent each phonemes. The cepstral coefficients and weighted cepstral distance are used for speech feature and measuring the distance because of less computational complexity, and the speech data used in this experimetn was recoreded at silent and ordinary in-dorr environment. Through the experimental results, the proposed algorithm showed higher performance with less computational complexity comparing with the conventional segmetnation algorithms and it can be applied usefully in phoneme-based continuous speech recognition.
Many researches have been done to define the physical parameters for the wave generation and transformation over a coastal region. However, most of these have been limited to the application of particular conditions, as they are generally too empirical. To yield more reasonable wave estimation using a spectral wave model, it is important to understand how they work for the wave estimation. This study involved a comprehensive sensitivity test against the spectral resolution and the physical source/sink terms of the spectral wave model using SWAN and TOMAWAC, which have the same physical background with several different empirical/theoretical formulations. The tests were conducted for the East Anglian coast, UK, which is characterized by a complex bathymetry due to several shoals and offshore sandbanks. For the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the models' performance with different input conditions, the wave elements and spectrums predicted at representative sites the East Anglia coast were compared/analyzed. The spectral resolution had no significant effect on the model results, but the lowest resolution on the frequency and direction induced underestimations of the wave height and period. The bottom friction and depth-induced breaking terms produced relatively high variations in the wave prediction, depending on which formulation was applied. The terms for the quadruplet and whitecapping had little effect on the wave estimation, whereas the triads tended to predict shorter and higher waves by energy transferring to higher frequencies.

This paper presents a method for the identification of vibration sources in a multiple input system where the input source may be coherent with each other. Using multi-dimensional spectral analysis, it is found that one of the most significant vibration sources of a gasoline engine is the pressure variation within the cylinder. In this analysis the concepts of residual spectral analysis and the partial coherence function are applied. Finally, the overall levels of the acceleration on the cylinder block obtained by multi-dimensional spectral analysis are compared with those by the frequency response function approach. The experimental results have shown a good agreement with the results calculated by this method the input sources are coherent strongly each other.

The objective of this study was to investigate the basic relationships between spectral reflectance and varying concentrations of sediment in surface waters. An experimental method for determining suspended sediment concentration (SSC) in the water by use of a spectroradiometer above the water surface, in visible and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths, is applied. The main advantage of the method is the direct comparison of spectral reflectance and the SSC, but it requires an accurate knowledge of the water body and sediment. Therefore numerous spectroradiometric measurements are carried out in situ measurements, for SSC, ranging from zero to 100 percentage and two types of sediment applied in the water tank. The results indicate that the suspended sediment causes increasing spectral reflectance response in waters. We observed that spectral reflectance increases with SSC, first at the lower wavelengths (430-480 nm), then in the middle wavelengths (570-700 nm), and finally, in the NIR domain (800-820 nm); a characteristic maximum reflectance appears at 400-670 nm. Relationships between the wavelength, integral value, and the SSC were evaluated on the basis of the regression analysis. The regression curve for the relation between the wavelength, integral value, and the SSC were determined ($R^2$>0.98). Finally, the specular wavelength can be estimated to recognize the sediment and to improve SC estimation accuracy in the water.

According to several seismic design standards, a ground motion time history should be selected similar to the design response spectrum, or a ground motion time history should be modified by matching procedure to the design response spectrum through the time-domain method. For the response spectrum matching procedure, appropriate seed ground motions need to be selected to maintain recorded earthquake accelerogram characteristics. However, there are no specific criteria for selecting the seed ground motions for applying this methodology. In this study, the characteristics of ground motion time histories between seed motions and spectral matched motions were compared. Intensity measures used in the design were compared, and their change by spectral matching procedure was quantified. In addition, the seed ground motion sets were determined according to the response spectrum shape, and these sets analyzed the response of nonlinear and equivalent linear single degrees of freedom systems to present the seed motion selection conditions for spectral matching. As a result, several considerations for applying the time domain spectral matching method were presented.
This paper proposes a novel spectral audio feature, spectral contrast MFCC (SCMFCC), and studies its performance on the musical genre classification. For a successful musical genre classifier, extracting features that allow direct access to the relevant genre-specific information is crucial. In this regard, the features based on the spectral contrast, which represents the relative distribution of the harmonic and non-harmonic components, have received increased attention. The proposed SCMFCC feature utilizes the spectral contrst on the mel-frequency cepstrum and thus conforms the conventional MFCC in a way more relevant for musical genre classification. By performing classification test on the widely used music DB, we compare the performance of the proposed feature with that of the previous ones.

As the volume of marine hazardous and noxious substances (HNSs) transported in domestic and overseas seas increases, the risk of HNS spill accidents is gradually increasing. HNS leaked into the sea causes destruction of marine ecosystems, pollution of the marine environment, and human casualties. Secondary accidents accompanied by fire and explosion are possible. Therefore, various types of HNSs must be rapidly detected, and a control strategy suitable for the characteristics of each substance must be established. In this study, the ground HNS spill experiment process and application result of detection algorithms were presented based on hyperspectral remote sensing. For this, styrene was spilled in an outdoor pool in Brest, France, and simultaneous observation was performed through a hyperspectral sensor. Pure styrene and seawater spectra were extracted by applying principal component analysis (PCA) and the N-Findr method. In addition, pixels in hyperspectral image were classified with styrene and seawater by applying spectral matching techniques such as spectral distance similarity (SDS), spectral correlation similarity (SCS), spectral similarity value (SSV), and spectral angle mapper (SAM). As a result, the SDS and SSV techniques showed good styrene detection results, and the total extent of styrene was estimated to be approximately 1.03 m2. The study is expected to play a major role in marine HNS monitoring.
This paper proposes a scheme to reduce spectral distortion in PAN-sharpening which produces a MultiSpectral image (MS) with the higher resolution of PANchromatic image (PAN). The spectral distortion results from reconstructing spatial details of PAN image in the MS image. The proposed method employs Spectral Adjustment and Anisotropic Diffusion to make a reduction of the distortion. The spectral adjustment makes the PAN-sharpened image agree with the original MS image, but causes block distortion because the spectral response of a pixel in the lower resolution is assumed to be equal to the average response of the pixels belonging to the corresponding area in the higher resolution at a same wavelength. The block distortion is corrected by the anisotropic diffusion which uses a conduct coefficient estimating from a local computation of PAN image. It results in yielding a PAN-sharpened image with the spatial structure of PAN image. GSA is one of PAN-sharpening techniques which are efficient in computation as well as good in quantitative quality evaluation. This study suggests the GSA as a preliminary PAN-sharpening method. Two data sets were used in the experiment to evaluate the proposed scheme. One is a Dubaisat-2 image of $1024{\times}1024$ observed at Los Angeles area, USA on February, 2014, the other is an IKONOS of $2048{\times}2048$ observed at Anyang, Korea on March, 2002. The experimental results show that the proposed scheme yields the PAN-sharpened images which have much less spectral distortion and better quantitative quality evaluation.
Revenel computed the Adams spectral sequence converging to BP(Ω$^2$S(sup)2n+1) and got the E(sub)$\infty$-term. Then he gave the conjecture about the extension. Here we prove that there should be non-trivial extension. We also study the BP(sub)*BP comodule structures on the polynomial algebras which are related with BP(sub)*(Ω$^2$S(sup)2n+1).
