In this paper a simple approach is presented for spectral matching of ground motions utilizing the wavelet transform and a recently developed metaheuristic optimization technique. For this purpose, wavelet transform is used to decompose the original ground motions to several levels, where each level covers a special range of frequency, and then each level is multiplied by a variable. Subsequently, the vibrating particles system (VPS) algorithm is employed to calculate the variables such that the error between the response and target spectra is minimized. The application of the proposed method is illustrated through modifying 12 sets of ground motions. The results achieved by this method demonstrate its capability in solving the problem. The outcomes of the VPS algorithm are compared to those of the standard colliding bodies optimization (CBO) to illustrate the importance of the enhancement of the algorithm.
In matrix analysis, the Wielandt-Mirsky conjecture states that $$dist({\sigma}(A),{\sigma}(B)){\leq}{\parallel}A-B{\parallel}$$ for any normal matrices $A,B{\in}{\mathbb{C}}^{n{\times}n}$ and any operator norm ${\parallel}{\cdot}{\parallel}$ on $C^{n{\times}n}$. Here dist(${\sigma}(A),{\sigma}(B)$) denotes the optimal matching distance between the spectra of the matrices A and B. It was proved by A. J. Holbrook (1992) that this conjecture is false in general. However it is true for the Frobenius distance and the Frobenius norm (the Hoffman-Wielandt inequality). The main aim of this paper is to study the Hoffman-Wielandt inequality and some weaker versions of the Wielandt-Mirsky conjecture for matrix polynomials.
A three-step screening process is presented in this article for selection of consistent earthquake records in which number of suitable ground motions is quickly screened and reduced to a handful number. Records that remain at the end of this screening process considerably reduce the dispersion of structural responses. Then, an effective method is presented for spectral matching and modification of the selected records. Dispersion of structural responses is explored using different statistical measures for each scaling procedure. It is shown that the Uniform Design Method, presented in this study for scaling of earthquake records, results in most cases in the least dispersion measure.

This paper describes a concrete method for computing characteristic impedances and effective dielectric constants of the microstrip coupled lines without and with a dielectric overlay. The frequency-independent spectral domain method is used for the analysis of these lines. This method is a powerful, accurate, and numerically efficient approach for planar transmission line structure. For designing the optimal directional coupler, the velocities of even and odd mode must be equal but velocities of these two modes are different in the conventional coupled line which is inhomogeneous. The results show that these two velocities can be almost same according to variations of structural and material parameters in terms of the overlay(superstrate).
In this study, numerical study of a long, straight, side-anchored floating bridge with discrete pontoons subjected to combined earthquakes and waves is conducted. Ground motions with magnitude corresponding to 200 YRP (years return period) earthquake in South Korea are generated based on the spectral matching method from a past earthquake record in California. Several sensitivity studies are carried out for bridge end condition, for different site classes (hard rock S1 and soft and deep soil S5), and for three different excitations (earthquake only, wave only, and earthquake-wave combined). Bridge and pontoon motions, bending moments along the bridge, and mooring tensions are systematically examined through coupled time-domain simulations by commercial program OrcaFlex. The numerical results show that the impact of earthquakes on floating bridges is still of importance especially for soft soil although ground motions are less directly applied to the structure than fixed bridges.

The recent increase in maritime traffic and coastal leisure activities has led to a rise in various marine accidents. These incidents not only result in damage to human life and property but also pose a significant risk of marine pollution involving oil and hazardous and noxious substances (HNS) spills. Therefore, effective ship monitoring is crucial for preparing and for responding to marine accidents. This study conducted an aerial experiment utilizing hyperspectral remote sensing to develop a maritime ship monitoring system. Hyperspectral aerial measurements were carried out around Gungpyeong Port in the western coastal region of the Korean Peninsula, and spectral libraries were constructed for various ship decks. The spectral correlation similarity (SCS) technique was employed for ship detection, analyzing the spatial similarity distribution between hyperspectral images and ship spectra. As a result, 15 ships were detected in the hyperspectral images. The color of each ship's deck was classified based on the highest spectral similarity. The detected ships were verified by matching them with high-resolution digital mapping camera (DMC) images. This foundational study on the application of aerial hyperspectral sensors for maritime ship detection demonstrates their potential role in future remote sensing-based ship monitoring systems.
In this study, the concept and techniques to generate the level lA, lB and 2A image products have been reviewed. In particular, radiometric and geometric corrections and bands registration used to generate level lA, lB and 2A products have been focused in this study. Radiometric correction is performed to take into account radiometric gain and offset calculated by compensating the detector response non-uniformity. And, in order to compensate satellite altitude, attitude, skew effects, earth rotation and earth curvature, some geometric parameters for geometric corrections are computed and applied. Bands registration process using the matching function between a geometry, which is called 'reference geometry', and another one which is corresponds to the image to be registered is applied to images in case of multi-spectral imaging mode. In order to generate level-lA image products, a simple radiometric processing is applied to a level-0 image. Level-lB image has the same radiometry correction as a level-lA image, but is also issued from some geometric corrections in order to compensate skew effects, Earth rotation effects and spectral misregistration. Level-2A image is generated using some geo-referencing parameters computed by ephemeris data, orbit attitudes and sensor angles. Level lA image is tested by visual analysis. The difference between distances calculated level 1 B image and distances of real coordinate is tested. Level 2A image is tested Using checking points.

In this paper, a novel spectral-spatial joint sparse representation algorithm for hyperspectral image classification is proposed based on multi-layer superpixels in various scales. Superpixels of various scales can provide complete yet redundant correlated information of the class attribute for test pixels. Therefore, we design a joint sparse model for a test pixel by sampling similar pixels from its corresponding superpixels combinations. Firstly, multi-layer superpixels are extracted on the false color image of the HSI data by principal components analysis model. Secondly, a group of discriminative sampling pixels are exploited as reconstruction matrix of test pixel which can be jointly represented by the structured dictionary and recovered sparse coefficients. Thirdly, the orthogonal matching pursuit strategy is employed for estimating sparse vector for the test pixel. In each iteration, the approximation can be computed from the dictionary and corresponding sparse vector. Finally, the class label of test pixel can be directly determined with minimum reconstruction error between the reconstruction matrix and its approximation. The advantages of this algorithm lie in the development of complete neighborhood and homogeneous pixels to share a common sparsity pattern, and it is able to achieve more flexible joint sparse coding of spectral-spatial information. Experimental results on three real hyperspectral datasets show that the proposed joint sparse model can achieve better performance than a series of excellent sparse classification methods and superpixels-based classification methods.
This article is concerned with automatic segmentation for Korean speech signals. All kinds of transition cases of phonetic units are classified into 3 types and different strategies for each type are applied. The type 1 is the discrimination of silence, voiced-speech and unvoiced-speech. The histogram analysis of each indicators which consists of wavelet coefficients and SVF (Spectral Variation Function) in wavelet coefficients are used for type 1 segmentation. The type 2 is the discrimination of adjacent vowels. The vowel transition cases can be characterized by spectrogram. Given phonetic transcription and transition pattern spectrogram, the speech signal, having consecutive vowels, are automatically segmented by the template matching. The type 3 is the discrimination of vowel and voiced-consonants. The smoothed short-time RMS energy of Wavelet low pass component and SVF in cepstral coefficients are adopted for type 3 segmentation. The experiment is performed for 342 words utterance set. The speech data are gathered from 6 speakers. The result shows the validity of the method.

Data integration techniques are becoming increasing1y important for conquering a limitation with a single data. Image fusion which improves the spatial and spectral resolution from a set of images with difffrent spatial and spectral resolutions, and image registration which matches two images so that corresponding coordinate points in the two images correspond to the same physical region of the scene being imaged have been researched. In this paper, we compared with six image fusion methods(Brovey, IHS, PCA, HPF, CN, and MWD) with panchromatic and multispectral images of IKONOS and developed the registration method for applying to SPOT-5 satellite image and RADARSAT SAR satellite image. As the result of tests on image fusion and image registration, we could find that MWD and HPF methods showed the good result in term of visual comparison analysis and statistical analysis. And we could extract patches which depict detailed topographic information from SPOT-5 and RADARSAT and obtain encouraging results in image registration.
