  • One-dimensional diffusion processes are characterized by Feller's data of canonical scales and speed measures and, if we apply the theory of spectral functions of strings developed by M. G. Krein, Feller's data are determined by paris of spectral characteristic functions so that theses pairs may be considered as invariants of diffusions under the homeomorphic change of state spaces. We show by examples how these invariants are useful in the study of one-dimensional diffusion processes.

  • We present a quantification protocol to get the alignment factors of a custom-made spectrometer and the nonlinear fitting function between the measured CCD pixel domain and the wavelength domain to apply the spectral-domain optical coherence tomography using fiber Bragg gratings. We have used 4 different center wavelength gratings with a narrow spectral bandwidth (<0.05 nm) and the same reflectivity (>92 %) to calibrate and align the custom-made spectrometer.

  • The spectral content of ground displacement of the 10 largest last California earthquakes is studied. Specifically, the power spectral density function of the critical horizontal-component record of the closest-to-epicenter station is analyzed in each case. The results permit to state that horizontal ground displacement is a narrow-band process. This fact was previously noticed while trying to solve the large-base-displacement problem in isolated structures and it was fundamental in the solution of this issue; however, these preliminary results were limited in number to enable a statement like the foregoing one. Thus, the broader results presented herein were necessary.

  • This paper proposes a speech enhancement method through the process of combining the gain function with spectrum subtraction method in the two microphone array with close spacing. A speech enhancement method that uses a gain function estimated by the SNR (Signal-to Noise Ratio) based on the multi frequency band coherence function causes the performance degradation in high correlation between input noises of two channels. A new speech enhancement method is proposed where the weighted gain function is used by combining the gain function from the spectral subtraction. The performance evaluation of the proposed method was shown by comparison with PESQ (Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality) value which is an objective quality evaluation test provided by the ITU-T (International Telecommunications Union Telecommunication). In the PESQ tests, the maximum 0.217 of PESQ value is improved in the various background noise environments.

  • Methods for stochastic simulation of non-Gaussian wind pressure have increasingly addressed the efficiency and accuracy contents to offer an accurate description of the extreme value estimation of the long-span and high-rise structures. This paper presents a linear prediction and z-transform (LPZ) based Cumulative distribution function (CDF) mapping algorithm for the simulation of multivariate non-Gaussian fluctuating wind pressure. The new algorithm generates realizations of non-Gaussian with prescribed marginal probability distribution function (PDF) and prescribed spectral density function (PSD). The inverse linear prediction and z-transform function (ILPZ) is deduced. LPZ is improved and applied to non-Gaussian wind pressure simulation for the first time. The new algorithm is demonstrated to be efficient, flexible, and more accurate in comparison with the FFT-based method and Hermite polynomial model method in two examples for transverse softening and longitudinal hardening non-Gaussian wind pressures.

  • Cloud's properties can be showed on different spectral channel. The 0.65${\mu}$m reflectance is mainly function of cloud optical thickness and reflectance of 1.6${\mu}$m is sensitive to cloud phase and particle size distribution. So we can use multi-spectral information to analysis cloud's microphysical properties.

  • Analysis of the vibration characteristic for cylindrical shell is more complex than plates since the coupling effects are considered on three dimensions. Based on Love's equation, spectral finite element method(SFEM) is introduced to predict frequency response function of finite circular cylindrical shell in the air with simply supported - free boundary condition without simplifying the equation of motion. And for the radiated noise analysis of cylindrical shell, indirect boundary element method(BEM) is applied using out-of-plane displacements as an input from structural vibration analysis. Comparisons of the structural vibration results by the spectral finite element method and commercial code, NASTRAN(FEM based) are carried out. Likewise, for verification of radiated noise analysis results, commercial code, SYSNOISE(BEM based) are used.

  • This paper introduces a spectrally formulated element method (SEM) for the beams treated with passive constrained layer damping (PCLD). The viscoelastic core of the beams has a complex modulus that varies with frequency. The SEM is formulated in the frequency domain using dynamic shape functions based on the exact displacement solutions from progressive wave methods, which implicitly account for the frequency-dependent complex modulus of the viscoelastic core. The frequency response function and dynamic responses obtained by the SEM and the conventional finite element method (CFEM) are compared to evaluate the validity and accuracy of the present spectral PCLD beam element model. The spectral PCLD beam element model is found to provide very reliable results when compared with the conventional finite element model.

  • In this paper, we propose a critical banded wavelet packet-based spectral subtraction for speech enhancement. Critical banded wavelet packet, which reflects the human auditory system, may lead to minimization of intelligibility loss and quality improvement of the enhanced speech in the spectral domain, when combined with an appropriate spectral subtraction gain function. The proposed method shows better performance than the conventional one in comparative assessments. We also show that, for effective evaluation of enhanced speech, it is essential to consider the characteristics of speech quality measures.
