Traditional structural dynamic analysis and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) of large scale concrete civil structures rely on manufactured embedding transducers to obtain structural dynamic properties. However, the embedding of manufactured transducers is very expensive and low efficiency for signal acquisition. In dynamic structural analysis and SHM areas, piezoelectric transducers are more and more popular due to the advantages like quick response, low cost and adaptability to different sizes. In this paper, the applicable feasibility assessment of the designed "artificial" piezoelectric transducers called Concrete Piezoelectric Smart Module (CPSM) in dynamic structural analysis is performed via three major experiments. Experimental Modal Analysis (EMA) based on Ibrahim Time Domain (ITD) Method is applied to experimentally extract modal parameters. Numerical modal analysis by finite element method (FEM) modeling is also performed for comparison. First ten order modal parameters are identified by EMA using CPSMs, PCBs and FEM modeling. Comparisons are made between CPSMs and PCBs, between FEM and CPSMs extracted modal parameters. Results show that Power Spectral Density by CPSMs and PCBs are similar, CPSMs acquired signal amplitudes can be used to predict concrete compressive strength. Modal parameter (natural frequencies) identified from CPSMs acquired signal and PCBs acquired signal are different in a very small range (~3%), and extracted natural frequencies from CPSMs acquired signal and FEM results are in an allowable small range (~5%) as well. Therefore, CPSMs are applicable for signal acquisition of dynamic responses and can be used in dynamic modal analysis, structural health monitoring and related areas.

This work presents a vulnerability assessment procedure for a complex structure using vibration characteristics. The structural behavior of a three-dimensional framed structure subjected to impact forces was predicted using the spectral element method. The Timoshenko beam function was applied to simulate the impact wave propagations induced by a high-velocity projectile at relatively high frequencies. The interactions at the joints were analyzed for both flexural and longitudinal wave propagations. Simulations of the impact energy transfer through the entire structure were performed using the transient displacement and acceleration responses obtained from the frequency analysis. The kill probabilities of the crucial components for an operating system were calculated as a function of the predicted acceleration amplitudes according to the acceptable vibration levels. Following the proposed vulnerability assessment procedure, the vulnerable positions of a three-dimensional combat vehicle with high possibilities of damage generation of components by impact loading were identified from the estimated vibration responses.

The FEM is a computer-aided mathematical technique for obtaining approximate solution to the differential equations. The pointwise convergence defines the relationship between the mesh size and the tolerance. This will play an important role in improving quality of finite element approximate solution. In the paper. We evaluate the convergence on a certain unknown point with a 1-irregular mesh refinement and spectral order enrichment. This means that the degree of freedom is minimized within a tolerance.

In this paper, aperture coupled stacked microstrip array antennas are proposed and their operating characteristics are analyzed based on analytical. In order to evaluate mutual coupling between slot-coupled microstrip patches in finite array, analysis uses the reciprocity theorem and the spectral domain Green's functions for dielectric slab in a moment method solution for the unknown patches and solts current distrbution. By introducing an N-port equivalent network, the impedance matrix of an affay of N-element slot-coupled patches is evaluated directly from its network current matix of order N$^{2}$, and it can be programmed to be run on a PC. Numerical results show mutual coupling, radiation pattern, active reflection coefficient versus scan angle, radiation efficiency and active element gain pattern.
This paper investigated the dispersion characteristics of horizontal surface waves as means to apply conversional SASW techniques. To verify this proposal, 3D finite element analysis and Transfer matrix solution were performed. SH wave(Love waves) has the some advantages in comparison with Rayleigh wave. Representatively, Love wave has a characteristics not affected by compression wave. These characteristics have the robust applicability for the surface wave investigation techniques. In this study, for the purpose of employing Love wave in the SASW method, the dispersion characteristics of the Love wave was extensively investigated by the theoretical and numerical approaches. The 3-D finite element and transfer matrix analyses for the half space and two-layer systems were performed to determine the phase velocities from Love wave as well as from both the vertical and the horizontal components of Rayleigh wave. Preliminary, numerical simulations and theoretical solutions indicated that the dispersion characteristics of horizontal surface wave(Love waves) can be sufficiently sensitive and appliable to SASW techniques.
The sensitivities of a structural response due to variation of its design parameters are prerequisite in the majority of the algorithms used for fundamental problems in engineering as system uncertainties, identification and probabilistic assessments etc. The paper presents the concept of probabilistic sensitivity of suspension bridges with respect to near-fault ground motion. In near field earthquake ground motions, large amplitude spectral accelerations can occur at long periods where many suspension bridges have significant structural response modes. Two different types of suspension bridges, which are Bosporus and Humber bridges, are selected to investigate the near-fault ground motion effects on suspension bridges random response sensitivity analysis. The modulus of elasticity is selected as random design variable. Strong ground motion records of Kocaeli, Northridge and Erzincan earthquakes are selected for the analyses. The stochastic sensitivity displacements and internal forces are determined by using the stochastic sensitivity finite element method and Monte Carlo simulation method. The stochastic sensitivity displacements and responses obtained from the two different suspension bridges subjected to these near-fault strong-ground motions are compared with each other. It is seen from the results that near-fault ground motions have different impacts stochastic sensitivity responses of suspension bridges. The stochastic sensitivity information provides a deeper insight into the structural design and it can be used as a basis for decision-making.
Our objective is to model static multi-cracking processes in concrete. The explicit dynamic relaxation (DR) method, which gives the solutions of non-linear static problems on the basis of the steady-state conditions of a critically damped explicit transient solution, is chosen to deal with the high geometric and material non-linearities stemming from such a complex fracture problem. One of the common difficulties of the DR method is its slow convergence rate when non-monotonic spectral response is involved. A modified concept that is distinct from the standard DR method is introduced to tackle this problem. The methodology is validated against the stable three point bending test on notched concrete beams of different sizes. The simulations accurately predict the experimental load-displacement curves. The size effect is caught naturally as a result of the calculation. Micro-cracking and non-uniform crack propagation across the fracture surface also come out directly from the 3D simulations.

In this paper, the power spectral density(PSD) for Multilevel Minimum Shift Keyed signal with modulation index h = 1/2 (M-ary MSK) are derived using the mathematical method of the Markov Chain model. At first, according to an essential requirement of the phase continuity characteristics of MSK signals, a complete model of the whole process of signal generation is built. Then, the derivations for autocorrelation functions are carried out precisely. After that, we verified the correctness and accuracy of the theoretical derivation by comparing the derived results with numerical simulations using MATLAB. We also divided the spectrum into four components according to the derivation. By analyzing these figures in the graphic, each component determines the characteristics of the spectrum. It is vital for enhanced spectral characteristics. To more visually represent the energy concentration of the main flap and the roll-down speed of the side flap, the specific out-of-band power of M-ary MSK is given. OMLCD(Optimum Maximum Likelihood Coherent Detection) of M-ary MSK is adopted to compare the signal received with prepared in advance in a code element T to go for the best. And M-ary MSK BER(Bit Error Rate) is compared with the same ary PSK (Phase Shift Keying) with M=2,4,6,8. The results show the detection method could improve performance by increasing the length of L(memory inherent) in the phase continuity.

This paper presents intermediate results of an on-going research for identification of the modal and the stiffness parameters of a bridge based on the ambient vibration data caused by the traffic loadings. The main algorithms consist of the random decrement method incorporating band-pass filters for estimation of the free vibration signals the cross spectral density method for identification of the modal parameters and the neural networks technique for estimation of the element-level stiffness changes. An experimental study is carried out on a scaled bridge model with a composite section subjected to various moving vehicle loadings. Vertical accelerations are measured at several locations on the girder. The estimated frequencies and mode shapes are found to be well-compared with those obtained from the impact tests. The estimated stiffness changes using the neural networks are found to be very good for the case with the simulated data. However the accuracy is found to be not quite satisfactory for the case with the experimental data particularly for the small value of the stiffness changes.

The Spectral Analysis of surface Waves(SASW) Method has a great has a great potential for rapid determination of shear wave velocity profile of ground. However, it has an inherent limitation in the interpretation of test results due to the assumption that the ground is layered horizontally. The reason of the assumption is that difficulties exist in obtaining analytical solutions of wave equation when a soil system is composed of inclined soil layer. In this study, a finite-element method has been employed to assess the effects of dip angle and stiffness contrast of inclined soil layers and the testing direction on the dispersion curve. The propagation of wave front in the inclined soil layer was also investigated. The results indicated that the influence of dip angle on the dispersion curve is getting obvious as the dip angle increases and the propagation of wave front in the inclined layer also entirely different compared with the case of the horizontal layer.
