This study was performed to construct tree species classification map according to three information types (spectral information, texture information, and spectral and texture information) by altitude (30 m, 60 m, 90 m) using the unmanned aerial vehicle images and the object-based classification method, and to evaluate the concordance rate through field survey data. The object-based, optimal weighted values by altitude were 176 for 30 m images, 111 for 60 m images, and 108 for 90 m images in the case of Scale while 0.4/0.6, 0.5/0.5, in the case of the shape/color and compactness/smoothness respectively regardless of the altitude. The overall accuracy according to the type of information by altitude, the information on spectral and texture information was about 88% in the case of 30 m and the spectral information was about 98% and about 86% in the case of 60 m and 90 m respectively showing the highest rates. The concordance rate with the field survey data per tree species was the highest with about 92% in the case of Pinus densiflora at 30 m, about 100% in the case of Prunus sargentii Rehder tree at 60 m, and about 89% in the case of Robinia pseudoacacia L. at 90 m.
This paper presents a study on the effectiveness of using the spectral and the temporal octave-band order statistics for musical genre classification. In order to represent the relative disposition of the harmonic and non-harmonic components, we utilize the octave-band order statistics of power spectral distribution. Experiments on the widely used two music datasets were performed; the results show that the octave-band order statistics improve genre classification accuracy by 2.61 % for one dataset and 8.9 % for another dataset compared with the mel-frequency cepstral coefficients and the octave-band spectral contrast. Experimental results show that the octave-band order statistics are promising for musical genre classification.

Hyperspectral imaging technology is one of the most efficient and fast-growing technologies in recent years. Hyperspectral image (HSI) comprises contiguous spectral bands for every pixel that is used to detect the object with significant accuracy and details. HSI contains high dimensionality of spectral information which is not easy to classify every pixel. To confront the problem, we propose a novel RGB channel Assimilation for classification methods. The color features are extracted by using chromaticity computation. Additionally, this work discusses the classification of hyperspectral image based on Domain Transform Interpolated Convolution Filter (DTICF) and 3D-CNN with Bi-directional-Long Short Term Memory (Bi-LSTM). There are three steps for the proposed techniques: First, HSI data is converted to RGB images with spatial features. Before using the DTICF, the RGB images of HSI and patch of the input image from raw HSI are integrated. Afterward, the pair features of spectral and spatial are excerpted using DTICF from integrated HSI. Those obtained spatial and spectral features are finally given into the designed 3D-CNN with Bi-LSTM framework. In the second step, the excerpted color features are classified by 2D-CNN. The probabilistic classification map of 3D-CNN-Bi-LSTM, and 2D-CNN are fused. In the last step, additionally, Markov Random Field (MRF) is utilized for improving the fused probabilistic classification map efficiently. Based on the experimental results, two different hyperspectral images prove that novel RGB channel assimilation of DTICF-3D-CNN-Bi-LSTM approach is more important and provides good classification results compared to other classification approaches.
Surface mineralogy of asteroids are inferred from photometric and spectroscopic observations with the wide range of wavelengths spanning from far-ultraviolet to mid-infrared. We classify mineralogy of those objects based on their spectral absorption features and spectral slopes. Based on overall spectral shapes, mineralogical classes are divided into three broad complexes; silicates (S), carbonaceous (C) and Vestoids (V), and the end-members that do not fit within the S, C and V broad-complexes. Each of them is subdivided into individual classes. Spectral classification of asteroidal objects has been simply represented by a combination of photometric colors. For a decade, photometric data of asteroids have been grouped and classified according to their SDSS colors converted from the spectral taxonomy. However, systematic studies for asteroid taxonomy based on Johnson-Cousins filters is few, and were conducted only with a small number of objects. In this paper, we present our preliminary results for taxonomic classification of Main Belt asteroids based on KMTNet Johnson-Cousins photometric color system.

Support Vector Machine (SVM) which has roots in a statistical learning theory is a training algorithm based on structural risk minimization. Generally, SVM algorithm uses the kernel for determining a linearly non-separable boundary and classifying the data. But, classical kernels can not apply to effectively the hyperspectral image classification because it measures similarity using vector's dot-product or euclidian distance. So, This paper proposes the spectral similarity kernel to solve this problem. The spectral similariy kernel that calculate both vector's euclidian and angle distance is a local kernel, it can effectively consider a reflectance property of hyperspectral image. For validating our algorithm, SVM which used polynomial kernel, RBF kernel and proposed kernel was applied to land cover classification in Hyperion image. It appears that SVM classifier using spectral similarity kernel has the most outstanding result in qualitative and spatial estimation.

In this paper, Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC), Decorrelated Filter Bank (DFB), Octave-based Spectral Contrast (OSC), Zero-Crossing Rate (ZCR), and Spectral Contract/Roll-Off are combined as a set of multiple feature-vectors for the music genre classification system based on the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier. In the conventional system, feature vectors for the entire genre classes are normalized for the SVM model training and classification. However, in this paper, selected feature vectors that are compared based on the One-Against-One (OAO) SVM classifier are only used for normalization. Using OSC as a single feature-vector and the multiple feature-vectors, we obtain the genre classification rates of 60.8% and 77.4%, respectively, with the conventional normalization method. Using the proposed normalization method, we obtain the increased classification rates by 8.2% and 3.3% for OSC and the multiple feature-vectors, respectively.

This study investigated how appropriate the classification methods based on conventional spectral characteristics are for high resolution imagery. A supervised classification mixing parametric and non-parametric rules, a method in which fuzzy theory is applied to such classification, and an unsupervised method were performed and compared to each other for accuracy. In addition, comparing the result screen-digitized through interpretation to the classification result using spectral characteristics, this study analyzed the conformity of both methods. Although the supervised classification to which fuzzy theory was applied showed the best performance, the application of conventional classification techniques to high resolution imagery had some limitations due to there being too much information unnecessary to classification, shadows, and a lack of spectral information. Consequently, more advanced techniques including integration with other advanced remote sensing technologies, such as lidar, and application of filtering or template techniques, are required to classify land cover/use or to extract useful information from high resolution imagery.
High spectral resolution of hyperspectral data enables analysis of complex natural phenomena that is reflected on the data nonlinearly. Although many manifold learning methods have been developed for such problems, most methods do not consider the spatial correlation between samples that is inherent and useful in remote sensing data. We propose a manifold learning method which directly combines the spatial proximity and the spectral similarity through kernel PCA framework. A gain factor caused by spatial proximity is first modelled with a heat kernel, and is added to the original similarity computed from the spectral values of a pair of samples. Parameters are tuned with intelligent grid search (IGS) method for the derived manifold coordinates to achieve optimal classification accuracies. Of particular interest is its performance with small training size, because labelled samples are usually scarce due to its high acquisition cost. The proposed spatial kernel PCA (KPCA) is compared with PCA in terms of classification accuracy with the nearest-neighbourhood classification method.

The objective of the present study is to compare various conventional and recently evolved satellite image-processing techniques and to ascertain the best possible technique that can identify and position of aquaculture farms accurately in and around the Younggwang coastal area. Several conventional techniques performed to extract such information fiom the Landsat-TM imagery do not seem to yield better information about the aquaculture farms, and lead to misclassification. The large errors between the actual and extracted aquaculture farm information are due to existence of spectral confusion and inadequate spatial resolution of the sensor. This leads to possible occurrence of mixture pixels or 'mixels' of the source of errors in the classification techniques. Understanding the confusing and mixture pixel problems requires the development of efficient methods that can enable more reliable extraction of aquaculture farm information. Thus, the more recently evolved methods such as the step-by-step partial spectral end-member extraction and linear spectral unmixing methods are introduced. The farmer one assumes that an end-member, which is often referred to as 'spectrally pure signature' of a target feature, does not appear to be a spectrally pure form, but always mix with the other features at certain proportions. The assumption of the linear spectral unmxing is that the measured reflectance of a pixel is the linear sum of the reflectance of the mixture components that make up that pixel. The classification accuracy of the step-by-step partial end-member extraction improved significantly compared to that obtained from the traditional supervised classifiers. However, this method did not distinguish the aquaculture ponds and non-aquaculture ponds within the region of the aquaculture farming areas. In contrast, the linear spectral unmixing model produced a set of fraction images for the aquaculture, water and soil. Of these, the aquaculture fraction yields good estimates about the proportion of the aquaculture farm in each pixel. The acquired proportion was compared with the values of NDVI and both are positively correlated (R$^2$ =0.91), indicating the reliability of the sub-pixel classification.ixel classification.
