  • CN procedure has been proven to be useful method for evaluating the effects of changes in land-use and treatment on hydrology. In this study, the use of Landsat multi-spectral image was investigated for analyzing the land-use distribution. From the Landsat data, forest areas were classified according to the density of trees. Watershed CN's were calculated to analyze the effects of the density of trees and soil cover types on direct runoff. According to the results, the density of trees had a little effect while soil cover types had a large effect on CN, From the comparison of estimated runoffs from CN method with observed runoffs, detailed soil cover map provides improved results.

  • MALDI-TOF-MS technique was applied to obtain structural and compositional information of synthetic polyamides, Nylon6 and Nylon66. Mass spectra of both the original and the hydrolyzed polyamide samples were analyzed using the self calibration method as well as the internal calibration method with the standard materials of known masses. The MALDI-TOF mass spectra of Nylon6 samples showed the presence of protonated, sodiated, and potassiated ions that were assigned to cyclic and NH2/COOH terminated linear oligomers. From the MALDI-TOF mass spectra of Nylon66 samples, the potassiated linear oligomers with three different end groups are identified as well as the cyclic oligomers, i.e., NH2/COOH terminated oligomers, NH2/NH2 terminated oligomers, and COOH/COOH terminated oligomers. Full characterization of the molecular species and end groups present in the polyamide samples has been achieved, and also the changes in mass spectral patterns after the hydrolysis of the samples are presented.

  • A microfluidic device for real-time monitoring of residual free chlorine and pH in water based on optical absorption is proposed. The device consists of a serpentine micromixer for mixing samples with a reagent, and a photodiode and light emitting diode(LED) for the detection of light absorbance at specific wavelengths, determined for specific reagent combinations. Spectral analyses of the samples mixed with N, N'-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine(DPD) reagent for chlorine determination and bromothymol blue(BTB) for pH measurement are performed, and the wavelengths providing the most useful linear changes in absorbance with chlorine concentration and pH are determined and used to select the combination of LED and photodiode wavelengths for each analyte. In tests using standard solutions, the device is shown to give highly reproducible results, demonstrating the feasibility of the device for the inexpensive and continuous monitoring of water quality parameters with very low reagent consumption.

  • The phototoxic potentials of LB20304a a new quinolone compound being developed by LG Chemical Ltd, and reference compounds (Ciprofloxacin; CPFX, Enoxacin; ENX and Lomefloxacin; LFLX) were compared in a murine model. in addition photostability of these compunds was studied after irradiation with long-wave UV light(UVA, 0, 0.3 1 or 3 Joule/$Cm^2$) When hairless mice(9 to 11 weeks old 19-26g) were orally administered with different dose levels of test compunds and exposed to UVA(40J/$cm^2$) inflammatory reactions were observed in a dose dependent manner. Among the compounds tested, LB20304a demonstrated the least phototoxic effects and showed no inflammatroy lesions at a dose level of 100mg.kg (Low dose). ENX and LFLX demonstrated much greater phototoxic reactions while CPFX showed similar or slightly greater phototoxic reactions compared to LB20304a. Similar to the in-vivo results the solutions of LB20304a and CPFX irradiated with UVA demonstrated reduced spectral changes compared to those of ENX and LFLX. In conclusion these data suggest that phototoxic potencies of the quinolones tested were; LFLX > ENX > CPFX $\geq$ LB20304a. No phototoxic dose of LB20304a in mice was 100 mg/kg.

  • The Geostationary Ocean Color Imager (GOCI) is under development to provide a monitoring of ocean-color around the Korean Peninsula from geostationary platforms. It is planned to be loaded on Communication, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) of Korea. The GOCI has been designed to provide multi-spectral data to detect, monitor, quantify, and predict short term changes of coastal ocean environment for marine science research and application purpose. The target area of GOCI observation covers sea area around the Korean Peninsula. Based on the nonlinear radiometric model, the GOCI calibration method has been derived. The radiometric model of GOCI has been validated through radiometric ground test. From this ground test result, GOCI radiometric model has been changed from second order to third order. In this paper, the radiometric test performed to evaluate the radiometric nonlinearity is described and the GOCI radiometric error propagation is analyzed. The GOCI radiometric calibration is based on onboard calibration devices; solar diffuser, DAMD (Diffuser Aging Monitoring Device). The radiometric model error due to the dark current nonlinearity is considered as a systematic error. Also the offset correction error due to gain/offset instability is considered. The radiometric accuracy depends mainly on the ground characterization accuracies of solar diffuser and DAMD.

  • This paper describes a technique combining chemometrics with UV spectroscopy for the determination of the concentra tions of two tissue additives (i.e., wet strength and softening agents) in a cellulose fiber containing solution. In single as ent solutions, the concentration of the additive can be measured by UV spectroscopy at the wavelength where the species having absorption. For a binary (i.e., containing two additives) solution system, the spectral characterization is very complicated. However, if aided by a chemometrical calibration technique, each additive in the binary solution can be quantified simultaneously. The present method is very rapid and simple, it can easily perform a continuous measurement in the changes in the additives' concentration after fiber addition, and therefore this becomes a valuable tool for the adsorption kinetics study of chemical additives onto the cellulose fibers. The time-dependent adsorption behaviors of the wet-strength, softening agent, and their both on fiber were also presented.

  • Spectral energy distribution camera for QUasars in EArly uNiverse (SQUEAN) is a successor of Camera for Quasars in EArly uNiverse (CQUEAN) which was developed by Center for the Exploration of the Origin of the Universe and operated at the 2.1 m Otto Struve Telescope in the McDonald Observatory, USA, since 2010. The software of SQUEAN controls a science camera, a guiding camera, and a filter wheel, and communicates with the telescope control system (TCS). It has been constantly revised and modularized according to the upgrades of the TCS and the hardware changes. Recently we have implemented the stable network communication and the semi-automatic focusing modules to enhance observational convenience. In this presentation we describe the current status of the SQUEAN control software and introduce a software architecture which is optimized on efficient astronomical observations.

  • The Hayabusa remote-sensing images of near-Earth asteroid (25143) Itokawa exhibited large diversity in spectral properties. The evidence suggests a various degrees of space weathering on the surface. It is known that the space weathering changes the spectra of S-type asteroids redder and reduces the depths of absorption around $1{\mu}m$. It is therefore possible to determine the surface ages through the investigation of the degree of space weathering. It is, however, reported that the scattered light components severely degrade the Asteroid Multiband Imaging Camera (AMICA) images, especially at the wavelengths > $0.86{\mu}m$. Our team came up with a technique for subtracting the scattered light components (Ishiguro 2014). Here, we upgraded the techniqu e by applying simplex algorism to correct the artifacts for all AMICA bands. This new technique enables to apply for the longest channel (i.e., zs-band at $1.01{\mu}m$) images, which was not studied so far. With the AMICA all bands data, we estimated the surface ages at the different location to be 0.6-2 Myr. Based on this data together with the geological information (e.g. gravitational potentials and local). we will discuss about the evolution of surface materials on the asteroid.

  • Matrix Metalloproteinases (MMPs) are a family of zinc-endopeptidases which can degrade extracellular matrix (ECM) components and play important roles in a variety of biological and pathological processes. 6,6'-bieckol isolated and characterized from an edible marine brown alga Ecklonia cava (EC), according to the comprehensive spectral analysis of MS and NMR data. Here the influence of 6,6'-bieckol on expressions of MMPs was examined by zymography and western blot analysis via human fibrosarcoma cell line (HT1080). It is shown that 6,6'-bieckol significantly down regulated the expressions of MMP-2 and -9 in dose-dependent manner. The influence of 6,6'-bieckol on the cell viability and cell behavior of HT1080 cells were also investigated, our dates shown that it suppressed the migration and 3D culture in HT1080 cells. Meanwhile, we explored several signal pathways which may contribute to this process, and found the suppressing of MMPs expressions in HT1080 cells might be due to the suppression of NF-${\kappa}B$ signal pathway.
