It is well known that volatile compounds including disinfection by-products as well as emissive dissolved gas in water can be removed effectively by air stripping. The micro-bubbles of flotation unit are so tiny as microns while the diameter of fine bubbles applied to air stripping is ranged from hundreds to thousands of micrometer. Therefore, the micro-bubbles in flotation can supply very wide specific surface area to transfer volatile matters through gas-liquid boundary. In addition, long emission time also can be gained to emit the volatile compound owing to the slow rise velocity of micro-bubbles in the flotation tank. There was a significant difference of the THMs species removal efficiency between air stripping and flotation experiments in this study. Moreover, the results of comparative experiments on the removal characteristics of THMs between air stripping and flotation revealed that the mass transfer coefficient, $K_La$ showed obvious differences. To overcome the limit of low removal efficiency of dissolved volatile compounds such as THMs in flotation process, the operation range of bubble volume concentration is required to higher than the operation condition of conventional particle separation.

In oxy-fuel combustion, $CO_2$ concentration in the flue gas may be enriched up to 95% owing to the gas recirculation. Under the high $CO_2$ concentration, the calcination characteristic of limestone is different from that of the conventional air combustion system. In this study, three types of limestone taken from different regions in Korea were used as $SO_2$ absorbent and their calcination characteristics depending on calcination temperature were investigated. The experiments were performed to examine the effects of operating variables such as absorbent species, reaction temperatures on the $SO_2$ removal efficiency and reacted limestone particles were captured to examine the sulfur contents. The degree of calcination and the specific surface area increased with calcination temperature and $SO_2$ removal efficiency increased with reaction temperature. The results showed remarkable difference in $SO_2$ removal efficiencies between the limestone types. The sulfur content of the reacted limestone with the highest $SO_2$ removal efficiency was about 10%.

The recycling technology of carbon residue produced from the process of oil recovery in waste tire pyrolysis is significant in environmental and economical aspects. This study was done to figure out the recycling possibility of carbon residue to activated carbon. For this, the characteristics of the carbon residue obtained from the commercial pyrolysis process of waste tire were studied. Also, the variation of pore structure of carbon residue was studied after 1 hour of carbonization at $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$ and 3 hours of activation at $950^{\circ}C$. The specific surface area of the carbon residue was $8.0m^2/g$ and it increased to $548.3m^2/g$ after carbonization and activation.

This study is intended to analyze the impact of PMMA on color changes comparatively by making 2 types of cheek color items with red-color pigments: one containing PMMA, which is one of the recently developed circular polymers and used when producing color make-up items that have aero powder as the chief ingredient, and the other without it. To accomplish the purpose, we have reviewed literature on raw materials that have aero powder as the chief ingredient. Also, after making compounds of PMMA and pigments lot aero powder, such as Talc, Mica, OMC Talc As, Mica As, we examined them compared to those without PMMA using spectrophotometer, a questionnaire survey, and Digital camera. Besides, the particles were analyzed using SEM. As a result of the analysis, cosmetics containing PMMA represent more vivid and rich colors, putting on one's face softly. Since the entire specific surface area of PMMA is large enough to absorb oil evenly, it yields vivid and rich colors. But, Mica, one of natural pigments, shows a result as opposed to that of Mica As, one of silicon-compounded pigments, suggesting that pearl effect may possibly causes defused reflection. Based on these findings, it is expected that cosmetics will have more vivid colors, or improved color presentation, as well as the softer sense of touch when a circular polymer of PMMa is added to the manufacturing process of color make-up items.
The particle size of MgO was examined as a function of the Na content in $Mg(OH)_2$ powders and the calcination temperature. $Mg(OH)_2$ suspension was obtained by dropwise precipitation of $Mg(NO_3)_2{\cdot}6H_2O$ and NaOH solutions. The suspension was diluted by varying the dilution volume ratio of distilled water to $Mg(OH)_2$ suspension to change the Na salt concentration in the suspension. $Mg(OH)_2$ slurry was filtered and dried at $60^{\circ}C$ under vacuum, and then its $Mg(OH)_2$ powder was calcined to produce MgO with different amount of Na content at $500\sim900^{\circ}C$ under air. Investigation of the physical and chemical properties of the various MgO powders with dilution ratio and calcination temperature variation was done by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, BET specific surface area and thermal gravimetric analysis. It was observed that MgO particle size could depend on the condition of calcination temperature and dilution ratio of the $Mg(OH)_2$ suspension. The particle size of the MgO depends on the Na content remaining in the $Mg(OH)_2$ powder, which powder was prepared by changing the dilution ratio of the $Mg(OH)_2$ suspension. This change increased as the calcination temperature increased and decreased as the dilution ratio increased. The growth of MgO particle size according to the increase of temperature was more effective when there was a relatively high content of Na. The increase of Na content lowered the temperature at which decomposition of $Mg(OH)_2$ to MgO took place, thereby promoting the crystal growth of MgO.
Adsorption by granule activated carbon(GAC) is recognized as an efficient method for the removal of perfluorinated compounds(PFCs) in water, while the poor regeneration and exchange cycles of granule active carbon make it difficult to sustain adsorption capacity for PFCs. In this study, the behavior of PFCs in the effluent of wastewater treatment plant (S), the raw water and the effluents of drinking water treatment plants (M1 and M2) located in Nakdong river waegwan watershed was monitored. Optimal regeneration and exchange cycles was also investigated in drinking water treatment plants and lab-scale adsorption tower for stable PFCs removal. The mean effluent concentration of PFCs was 0.044 0.04 PFHxS g/L, 0.000 0.00 PFOS g/L, 0.037 0.011 PFOA g/L, for S wastewater treatment plant, 0.023 0.073 PFHxS g/L, 0.000 0.00 PFOS g/L, 0.013 0.008 PFOA g/L for M1 drinking water treatment plant and 0.023 0.073 PFHxS g/L, 0.000 0.01 PFOS g/L, 0.011 0.009 PFOA g/L for M2 drinking water treatment plant. The adsorption breakthrough behaviors of PFCs in GAC of drinking water treatment plant and lab-scale adsorption tower indicated that reactivating carbon 3 times per year suggested to achieve and maintain good removal of PFASs. Considering the results of mass balance, the adsorption amount of PFCs was improved by using GAC with high-specific surface area (2,500㎡/g), so that the regeneration cycle might be increased from 4 months to 10 months even if powdered activated carbon(PAC) could be alternatives. This study provides useful insights into the removal of PFCs in drinking water treatment plant.

The objective of this study is to evaluate the catalytic potential of the porous material prepared from water treatment sludge. The textural properties of the catalyst were studied using $N_2$ adsorption and desorption isotherms, scanning electron microscope, and X-ray diffraction. The pellet-type catalyst prepared using water treatment sludge is determined to be a material that contains mesopores as well as micropores. The specific surface area of the catalyst is $157m^2/g$. Acidic characteristics of the catalyst are analyzed by temperature-programmed desorption of ammonia and infrared spectroscopy of adsorbed pyridine. 2-Butanol dehydration reaction was carried out in a fixed bed catalytic reactor. Yields of 1-butene, trans-2-butene, and cis-2-butene at $350^{\circ}C$ were 25.6 wt%, 19.2 wt%, and 29.9 wt%, respectively. This catalytic activity of the catalyst based on water treatment sludge in 2-butanol dehydration is due to the acid sites composed of Bronsted acid sites and Lewis acid sites. It was confirmed that the catalyst based on water treatment sludge can be utilized to produce $C_4$ olefin through butanol dehydration.

Bead type and hollow fiber type catalyst (HFC, Hollow Fiber type Catalyst) was prepared by $La_{0.1}Sr_{0.9}Co_{0.2}Fe_{0.8}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (LSCF1928) perovskite powder catalyst which showed excellent methane complete oxidation characteristics through previous studies. The HFC have a cylindrical shape with an empty interior, and pores can be formed through Phase inversion method so the specific surface area can be remarkably improved. In the case of the bead type catalyst prepared by adding Methyl Cellulose (MC), $SrCO_3$ was produced in addition to the original catalyst composition of LSCF1928 due to the reaction of $CO_2$ emitted from MC and Sr of the catalyst. In the case of the HFC, a single phase perovskite structure was obtained without impurities. The HFC calcined at $700{\sim}900^{\circ}C$ showed pore structure of finger-sponge-finger structure, and 99.9% oxygen conversion rate was achieved through complete oxidation of methane at $475^{\circ}C$. Air gap and spinning pressure condition were changed to control the HFC pore. 2 cm air gap and 7 bar spinning pressure showed the best catalytic performance and achieved oxygen conversion rates of more than 70.65%, 93.01%, and 99.99% at $425^{\circ}C$, $450^{\circ}C$ and $475^{\circ}C$, respectively.

Authors surveyed the ground water near the waste disposed from a fiberglass production factory to confirm the presence of glassfiber in the water and to determine the effect of sampling conditions and storage on the recovery of fibrous materials in the ground water. Sample was collected at every 4 hours for 48 hours consecutively. After finishing the 48 hours sample, water sampling was done from each tap after repeated turning on and off the water for 30 seconds at each time. Sample was collected in the two 1.5 liter polyethylene bottle after vigorously shaking the bottle with the same water several times with the flowing tap water. At each paired sample, one bottle was stored stand still at room temperature, and the other sample was filtered immediately after sampling. Water was filtered on the Mixed Cellulose Ester filter with negative pressure. Each sample was divided into upper and lower layer. The other bottle was stored at room temperature standstill for 7 days and filtered in the same fashion as the other pair of sample did. Each MCE filter was divided into 4 pieces and one piece was treated with acetone to make it transparent. Each prepared sample was observed by two researchers under the light and polarizing microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ra microanalysis. Fibers were classified by the morphology and polarizing pattern under the polarizing microscope, and count was done. 1. There was a significant fluctuation in number of the fibers, but there was no specific demonstrable pattern. 2. Non-polarizing fibers frequently disappeared after 7 days's storage. But cluster of fibers were found at the wall of the same container by scratching technique. 3. Polarizing fibers were usually found in between the filter and the manicure pasted area. Possible explanations for this phenomenon will be that either these fibers are very light or have electronic polarity. Hence, these fibers are not able to be attached on the surface of slide glass. 4. Under the scanning electron microscopic examination, the fibers which are not refractive under the light microscopy were identified as glassfiber. Other fibers which is refractive under the polarizing microscopy were identified as magnesium silicate fibers. It is strongly suggested that development of standardized method of sample collection and measurement of fibrous material in the water is needed.

In this study, the paclitaxel eluting stent (PES) was prepared by coating a biliary stent with paclitaxel using various biopolymer such as poly (vinyl acetate) (PVAc), poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA), Silicone rubber for restenosis prevention in gastrointestinal disease by a dip-coating method. Drug contents of PES were increased as surface area of stent, concentration and molecular weight of coating polymer increase. In $^1H-NMR$ specta, we know that drug did not change by confirming specific peaks of paclitaxel in PES. As shown in SEM image, PES prepared using various biopolymer is coated clearly and regularly except Silicone rubber coating polymer. In in vitro cell cytotoxicity test, bare stent showed low cytotoxic effect against CT-26 colon carcinoma cell line on 3 day. However, PES coated with PLGA 502H showed the highest cytotoxicity because PLGA 502H is biodegradable polymer and has less molecular weight than other coating polymer. These results suggest that PES coated various biopolymer can be prevented restenosis in gastrointestinal disease.
