  • We show how the rotation emission from isolated interstellar Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) can explain the so-called anomalous microwave emission (AME). AME has been discovered in the last decade as microwave interstellar emission (10 to 70 GHz) that is in excess compared to the classical emission processes: thermal dust, free-free and synchrotron. The PAHs are the interstellar planar nano-carbons responsible for the near infrared emission bands in the 3 to 15 micron range. Theoretical studies show that under the physical conditions of the interstellar medium (radiation and density) the PAHs adopt supra-thermal rotation velocities, and consequently they are responsible for emission in the microwave range. The first results from the PLANCK mission unexpectedly showed that the AME is not only emitted by specific galactic interstellar clouds, but it is present throughout the galactic plane, and is particularly strong in the cold molecular gas. The comparison of theory and observations shows that the measured emission is fully consistent with rotation emission from interstellar PAHs. We draw the main lines of our PLANCK-AKARI collaborative program which intends to progress on this question by direct comparison of the near infrared (AKARI) and microwave (PLANCK) emissions of the galactic plane.

  • Recently, convolutional neural network (CNN) have been showed outstanding performance in the field of image recognition, image processing and computer vision, etc. In this paper, we propose a CNN-based image rotation correction algorithm as a solution to image rotation problem, which is one of the factors that reduce the recognition rate in image recognition system using CNN. In this paper, we trained our deep learning model with Leeds Sports Pose dataset to extract the information of the rotated angle, which is randomly set in specific range. The trained model is evaluated with mean absolute error (MAE) value over 100 test data images, and it is obtained 4.5951.

  • Objective: This study was performed to investigate the effect of acupuncture at HT8 on brain activity in perimenopausal women using fMRI. Methods: 15 healthy perimenopausal women volunteered in the study. No stimulation, sham stimulation, duration of acupuncture treatment on HT8, and rotation of acupuncture treatment on HT8 were randomly given for 6 minutes, with 20 seconds' intervals. Results: 1. In comparison with sham stimulation(Sham-B) and duration of acupucture (S1-B, S1-Sham, S2-S1), the areas of fMRI signal activation areas were just like cases including no stimulation. But the areas of vision were activated in S1-Sham. 2. In comparison with duration of acupuncture(S1-B, S1-Sham, S2-S1) and rotation of acupuncture(S2-B, S2-Sham, S2-S1), the areas of vision were activated in duration of acupuncture, and Supplementary motor area(SMA) were especially activated in rotation of acupuncture. Conclusions: After using fMRI and analysing effect of acupuncture treatment at HT8, we could confirm that fMRI signal activation areas by acupuncture treatment at HT8 were different from areas by sham stimulation. And according to acupuncture stimulation methods with duration and rotation, etc, we could confirm the specific reactions of series, and could get useful basic data for research of acupuncture from now on.

  • Utilizing fit theory in strategic human resource management, this study examines the impact of two HR practices on newcomer turnover rates. While there is a growing body of research identifying the linkage between high-performance work systems(HPWS) and improved organizational performance through higer employee commitment, little research addresses how specific mechanisms among the systems deliver different performances to organizations. Using management by objective(MBO) and job rotation in HPWS, we found a strong main effect of each practice-it decreases newcomer turnover rates. This main effect becomes stronger when one practice combined with another, showing synergy exists. Linking HPWS research to turnover, this study provides insightful evidence of interactions between MBO and job rotation for organizational performance.

  • This paper presents a novel approach to face detection by localizing faces as the goal-specific saliencies in a scene, using the framework of selective visual attention of a human with a particular goal in mind. The proposed approach aims at achieving human-like robustness as well as efficiency in face detection under large scene variations. The key is to establish how the specific knowledge relevant to the goal interacts with the bottom-up process of external visual stimuli for saliency detection. We propose a direct incorporation of the goal-related knowledge into the specification and/or modification of the internal process of a general bottom-up saliency detection framework. More specifically, prior knowledge of the human face, such as its size, skin color, and shape, is directly set to the window size and color signature for computing the center of difference, as well as to modify the importance weight, as a means of transforming into a goal-specific saliency detection. The experimental evaluation shows that the proposed method reaches a detection rate of 93.4% with a false positive rate of 7.1%, indicating the robustness against a wide variation of scale and rotation.

  • This study deals with the friction weldability of A7075-T6 having high specific strength. The friction welding conditions used are rotation speed 2000rpm, friction pressure 40MPa, friction time 1.5sec, upset pressure 40~100MPa, upset time 5sec. First, upset length was measured by displacement transducer. The plastic flow in 7075-T6 weld generates convex lens shaped resion by friction and concave lens shaped resion by axial force. Under the condition of upset pressure 85MPa, the friction welds have tensile strength of 552MPa and shear strength of 262MPa.

  • In this paper, we propose a new feature-based text watermarking for the binary text image. The structure of specific characters from preprocessed text image are modified to embed watermark. Watermark message are embedded and detected by the following method; Hole line disconnect using the connectivity of the character containing a hole, Center line shift using the hole area and Differential encoding using difference of flippable score points. Experimental results show that the proposed method is robust to rotation and scaling distortion.

  • The present research deals with the deformation in transversely isotropic thin circular thermoelastic rotating plate due to time-harmonic sources. Frequency effect in the presence of rotation and two temperature is studied under thermally insulated as well as isothermal boundaries. The Hankel transform technique is used to find a solution to the problem. The displacement components, stress components, and conductive temperature distribution with the radial distance are computed in the transformed domain and further calculated in the physical domain using numerical inversion techniques. Some specific cases are also figured out from the current research.

  • This study is concerned about the verification and the implementation of a mechanical model for the force system in end milling. The model is based on the relationship between the cutting forces and the chip thickness. The components of the model are based on the average cutting forces which are experimentally obtained. And, both instantaneous and average force system characteristics are described as a function of cut geometry and a feed rate. This model employed two specific cutting forces, instantaneous and average specific cutting force, and the models which obtained using two cutting forces were compared and analyzed. In this study, cutter deflection with respect to the center of rotation is considered, which is a major part of the tool run-outs. The effect of run-out on the cutting forces is also discussed. The relationships among the run-out parameters, cutting parameters and the resulting force system characteristics are presented. In all cases, for the down milling with a right hand helix cutter is considered.

  • Currently, focused ion beams (FIB) are widely used for specimen preparation in atom probe tomography (APT), which is a three-dimensional and atomic-scale compositional analysis tool. Specimen preparation, in which a specific region of interest is identified and a sharp needle shape created, is the first step towards successful APT analysis. The FIB technique is a powerful tool for site-specific specimen preparation because it provides a lift-out technique and a controllable manipulation function. In this paper, we demonstrate a general procedure containing the crucial points of FIB-based specimen preparation. We introduce aluminum holders with moveable pin and an axial rotation manipulator for specimen handling, which are useful for flipping and rotating the specimen to present the backside and the perpendicular direction. We also describe specimen preparation methods for nanowires and nanopowders, using a pick-up method and an embedding method by epoxy resin, respectively.
