Random amplified polymorphic DAN markers were characterized for three taxonomically problematic Penicillium species : P. aurantiogriseum var. Aurantiogriseum, P. verrucosum and P. puberulum, as well as for 25 species of mono, bi-, and terverticillate Penicillia. The relationships among mono, bi-, and terverticillate Penicillium species were determined from these RAPD markers. Eight species from mono-, eight from bi-, and nine from terverticilate Penicillia were examined. With 14 randomly chosen 10-mer primes, a 310 character by 25 species matrix was generated. Phenetic analysis separated the 25 species into three genetically distinct groups that correspond to the different arrangements of penicilli (mono-, bi-, and terverticillate). The results of this study suggest that P. aurantiogriseum var. aurantiogriseum, P. VERRUCOSUM, AND P. puberulum represent genetically distinct species, and that P. vulpinum should be included in terverticilate Penicillia. Phenogram branching patterns indicated that biverticillate species are genetically more similar to monoverticilate species than they are to terverticillate species.
The fungal flora decomposing rice straw were investigated all over the soil of Sharkia Province, east of Nile Delta, Egypt, using the nylon net bag technique. Sixty-four straw-decomposing species belonging to 30 genera were isolated by the dilution plate method in ground rice straw-Czapek's agar medium at pH 6. The plates were incubated separately at $5^{\circ}C,\;25^{\circ}C\;and\;45^{\circ}C$, respectively. Twenty nine species belonging to 14 genera were isolated at $5^{\circ}C$. The most frequent genus was Penicillium (seven species), and the next frequent genera were Acremonium (three species), Fusarium (three species), Alternaria, Chaetomium, Cladosporium, Mucor, Stachybotrys (two species) and Rhizopus stolonifer. At $25^{\circ}C$, 47 species belonging to 24 genera were isolated. The most frequent genus was Aspergillus (nine species), and the next frequent genera were ranked by Penicillium (five species), Chaetomium (three species), Fusarium (three species). Each of Alternaria, Cladosporium, Mucor, Myrothecium and Trichoderma was represented by two species. At $45^{\circ}C$, 15 species belonging to seven genera were isolated. These were seven species of Aspergillus, two species of Chaetomium and two species of Emericella, while Humicola, Malbranchea, Rhizomucor and Talaromyces were represented by one species respectively. The total counts of fungi the genera, and species per gram of dry straw were significantly affected by incubation temperature and soil analysis (P < 0.05).
This study was conducted to compare benthic macroinvertebrate communities of urban stream and nature stream in Daegu-si, Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsan-si, Andong-si, and Cheongsong-gun. The survey was carried out with 12 points in total six points for urban stream, six points for nature stream from Sept. 2011 to July 2012. In the urban stream were 33 species belonged to 24 families, 11 orders, 7 classes and 4 phyla while in the nature stream were 73 species belonged to 38 families, 12 orders, 5 classes and 4 phyla. In general, species diversity indices and species richness indices appeared low in urban stream but dominance indices was high. Functional feeding groups and Habitat Oriented Groups appeared comparatively simple in urban stream rather than nature stream. As a result of analysis of community stability, species included to area I and area III equally appeared in nature stream while species included to area I mostly appeared in urban stream. An analysis of the correlation between the population density and the number of species, the population number and biological indicators such as DI, H', RI, and ESB revealed that there was a significant correlativity with the diversity index and a very high correlativity with the number of species, abundance index and the ESB. On the other hand, the population number and the dominance index did not reveal any correlativity. For indicator species, Hydroptila KUa, Physa acuta appeared in urban stream while Paraleptophlebia chocolata, Epeorus pellucidus appeared in nature stream.
Complete chloroplast genome sequences provide detailed information about any structural changes of the genome, instances of phylogenetic reconstruction, and molecular markers for fine-scale analyses. Recent developments of next-generation sequencing (NGS) tools have led to the rapid accumulation of genomic data, especially data pertaining to chloroplasts. Short reads deposited in public databases such as the Sequence Read Archive of the NCBI are open resources, and the corresponding chloroplast genomes are yet to be completed. The V. dilatatum complex in Korea consists of four morphologically similar species: V. dilatatum, V. erosum, V. japonicum, and V. wrightii. Previous molecular phylogenetic analyses based on several DNA regions did not resolve the relationship at the species level. In order to examine the level of variation of the chloroplast genome in the V. dilatatum complex, raw reads of V. dilatatum deposited in the NCBI database were used to reconstruct the whole chloroplast genome, with these results compared to the genomes of V. erosum, V. japonicum, and three other species in Viburnum. These comparative genomics results found no significant structural changes in Viburnum. The degree of interspecific variation among the species in the V. dilatatum complex is very low, suggesting that the species of the complex may have been differentiated recently. The species of the V. dilatatum complex share large unique deletions, providing evidence of close relationships among the species. A phylogenetic analysis of the entire genome of the Viburnum showed that V. dilatatum is a sister to one of two accessions of V. erosum, making V. erosum paraphyletic. Given that the overall degree of variation among the species in the V. dilatatum complex is low, the chloroplast genome may not provide a phylogenetic signal pertaining to relationships among the species.

A list of species of bivalve mollusks, their local distributions and relative abundance in Yeongil Bay were analysed. Species richness ranging from 1 to 37 species was low (less than 10) in some stations at the entrance and in the central part of the bay. Fifteen species (Acila insignis, Nucula tenuis, Yoldia notabilis, Mytilus galloprovincialis, Arca boucardi, Axinopsida subquadrata, Felaniella usta, Mactra chinensis, Raeta pulchella, Nitidotellina hokkaidoensis, Theora fragilis, Alvenius ojianus, Callithaca adamsi, Ruditapes philippinarum and Laternula anatina) were most frequently encountered, and seven of them were most abundant numerically (per sample): Th. fragilis in the inner bay, A. insignis, N. tenuis, and A. ojianus in the outer bay, and C. adamsi, A. subquadrata, R. puichella in both parts. Local distributions of common species were described and presented in plotted data, and three distribution patterns were recognized. Biogeographical analysis shows that a majority of species (55%) belongs to the subtropical group, tropical-subtropical species (16%) play a relatively significant role, and the percentage of boreal (temperate) and boreal-arctic species is 18% which characterizes the whole fauna as subtropical. Zonal-biogeographical composition and number of species in families in Yeongil Bay are compared with those of some Japanese (Wakasa and Mutsu) and Russian (Peter the Great, Possjet and Amursky) bays of the East Sea. The absence of a number of typical warm-water embaymental mollusks in Yeongil Bay found in the north further East Sea and Japan, and the similar zonal-biogeographical structure of the inner and outer bay faunas are explained by active water exchange due to the openness of the bay, relatively low summer temperatures, and presence of upwelled cold waters.

The genus Pholiota (Strophariaceae, Basidiomycota) is made up of wood-rotting saprotrophic mushrooms characterized by a yellow or brown pileus with scales and/or slimy, and by a brownish smooth spore with a germ pore. However, these features are not enough to distinguish its species, or separate the genus Pholiota from other brown-spored wood-rotting genera such as Hypholoma and Stropharia. Although internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequencebased identification has improved identification accuracy for species of Pholiota, most Pholiota species in Korea are reported based on morphological features. To evaluate the taxonomy of Pholiota species, we investigated 62 specimens collected from 1999 to 2019 in Korea using ITS sequence analysis and morphological observation. Twelve of the 16 recorded Pholiota species in Korea were identified. While eight species were clearly separated, the ITS analysis did not distinguish three in the Pholiota adiposa complex. Therefore, further investigation is required to distinguish these three species. ITS sequences deposited in GenBank confirm that P. highlandensis exists in Korea. The presence of the other four Pholiota species could not be confirmed through specimens or sequence information in GenBank. A taxonomic key and the ITS sequence data for Korean Pholiota species are included and can be good baselines for further research on Pholiota taxonomy and diversity.

Background: The Korean scarlet dwarf, Nannophya koreana Bae (Odonata: Libellulidae), is anendangered dragonfly with an increasing risk of extinction owing to rapid climate changes and human activities. To prevent extinction, the N. koreana population and their habitat should be protected. Therefore, suitable habitat evaluation is important to build the N. koreana restoration project. The habitat suitability index model (HSI) has been widely used for habitat evaluation in diverse organisms. Results: To build a suitable HSI model for N. koreana, 16 factors were examined by seven experienced researchers. A field survey for N. koreana observed sites and spatial analysis were conducted to improve the model. Five factors were finally selected by this procedure (crown density, open water surface, water depth, pioneer plant cover, and type of water source). Finally, the N. koreana HSI model was generated with the five adjusted factors based on interview, field survey, and spatial analysis. This model was validated by a current N. koreana habitat in 2021. With this model, 46 sites in Uljin-gun, Korea, were surveyed for N. koreana habitats; five sites were identified as core habitats and seven as potential core habitats. Conclusions: This model will serve as a strong foundation for the N. koreana restoration project and as a reference for future studies on N. koreana and other endangered insect populations. Further analysis and long-term data will improve the efficacy of this model and restore endangered wildlife.

Two tree frogs, Dryophytes suweonensis and Dryophytes japonicus, inhabiting Korea, are morphologically similar and share the same habitats. Therefore, they are identified mainly through their calls, especially for males. Dryophytes suweonensis is registered as an endangered (IUCN: EN grade) and protected species in South Korea. Thus, it is necessary to develop a method to rapidly identify and discriminate the two species and establish efficient protection and restoration plans. We identified significant genetic variation between them by sequencing a maternally-inherited mitochondrial 12S ribosomal DNA region. Based on the sequence data, we designed a pair of primers containing 7bp differences for high resolution melting(HRM) analysis to rapidly and accurately characterize their genotypes. The HRM analysis using genomic DNA showed that the melting peak for D. suweonensis was 76.4±0.06℃, whereas that of D. japonicus was 75.0±0.05℃. The differential melt curve plot further showed a distinct difference between them. We also carried out a pilot test for the application of HRM analysis based on immersing D. suweonensis in distilled water for 30 min to generate artificial environmental DNA(eDNA). The results showed 1.10-1.31℃ differences in the melting peaks between the two tree frog samples. Therefore, this HRM analysis is rapid and accurate in identifying two tree frogs not only using their genomic DNA but also using highly non-invasive eDNA.

The genetic diversity and phylogenetic relationships of eleven herbaceous peonies grown in Korea were analyzed by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD). Twenty-four decamer RAPD primers were used in a comparative analysis of these Korean peony species. Of the 142 total RAPD fragments amplified, 124 (87.3%) were found to be polymorphic. The remaining 18 fragments were found to be monomorphic (12.7%) shared by individuals of all 11 peony species. Cluster analysis based on the presence or absence of bands was performed by Jaccard's similarity coefficient, based on Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Averages. Genetic similarity range was 0.39 to 0.90 with a mean of 0.64. This study offered a rapid and reliable method for the estimation of variability among different peony species which could be utilized by the breeders for further improvement of the local peony species. Also, the results propose that the RAPD marker technique is a useful tool for evaluation of genetic diversity and relationship amongst different peony species.
The insects and Benthic Macro-Invertebrates are very important for index of investigation. This reserch is executed a field investigation with a date analysis of the laboratory under such as above hypothesis and we have grasped the change of the creature according to the season through the executing of field investigation(We executed six times about the insects, seven times about the Benthic Macro-Inbertebrates each expending from Apr. to Oct. 2004). The result of summary in 2004 show that, we have grasped 12 orders 56 familys 116 species on 2001 and 10 orders 42 familys 78 species on 2002 through the investigation. Also we have grasped 13 orders 53 familys 114 species on 2003 and 12 orders 63 familys 121 speceies on 2004 through the investigation. In the case of enthic Macro-Invertebrates, we executed the analysis through the investigation result expending from 2003 to 2004 due to there is no literature investigation record from 2001 to 2002. We have grasped 8 orders 17 familys 24 species on 2003 and 7 orders 11 familys 24 species on Aug. 2004 through the investigation. We executed the analysis about an each condition due to it is difficult to compare the above result simply by the various variable at the investigation. We expect that it become the fundamental reference data to establish a efficient mode of life undo plan after grasped the inhabitation and movement route of creature inside the river through this reserch.
