  • The aim of this paper is to establish two general finite integral formulas involving the product of Galué type Struve functions and Srivastava's polynomials. The results are given in terms of generalized (Wright's) hypergeometric functions. These results are obtained with the help of finite integrals due to Oberhettinger and Lavoie-Trottier. Some interesting special cases of the main results are also considered. The results presented here are of general character and easily reducible to new and known integral formulae.

  • Recently several authors have extended the Gamma function, Beta function, the hypergeometric function, and the confluent hypergeometric function by using their integral representations and provided many interesting properties of their extended functions. Here we aim at giving further extensions of the abovementioned extended functions and investigating various formulas for the further extended functions in a systematic manner. Moreover, our extension of the Beta function is shown to be applied to Statistics and also our extensions find some connections with other special functions and polynomials such as Laguerre polynomials, Macdonald and Whittaker functions.

  • In a spirit of Givental's constructions Batyrev, Ciocan-Fontanine, Kim, and van Straten suggested Landau-Ginzburg models for smooth Fano complete intersections in Grassmannians and partial flag varieties as certain complete intersections in complex tori equipped with special functions called superpotentials. We provide a particular algorithm for constructing birational isomorphisms of these models for complete intersections in Grassmannians of planes with complex tori. In this case the superpotentials are given by Laurent polynomials. We study Givental's integrals for Landau-Ginzburg models suggested by Batyrev, Ciocan-Fontanine, Kim, and van Straten and show that they are periods for pencils of fibers of maps provided by Laurent polynomials we obtain. The algorithm we provide after minor modifications can be applied in a more general context.

  • A three-dimensional (3-D) method of analysis is presented for determining the free vibration frequencies of hyperboloidal shells free at the top edge and clamped at the bottom edge like a hyperboloidal cooling tower by the Ritz method based upon the circular cylindrical coordinate system instead of related 3-D shell coordinates which are normal and tangent to the shell midsurface. The Legendre polynomials are used as admissible displacements. Convergence to four-digit exactitude is demonstrated. Natural frequencies from the present 3-D analysis are also compared with those of straight beams with circular cross section, complete (not truncated) conical shells, and circular cylindrical shells as special cases of hyperboloidal shells from the classical beam theory, 2-D thin shell theory, and other 3-D methods.

  • In this work we discuss "plank problems" for complex Banach spaces and in particular for the classical $L^{p}(\mu)$ spaces. In the case $1\;{\leq}\;p\;{\leq}\;2$ we obtain optimal results and for finite dimensional complex Banach spaces, in a special case, we have improved an early result by K. Ball [3]. By using these results, in some cases we are able to find best possible lower bounds for the norms of homogeneous polynomials which are products of linear forms. In particular, we give an estimate in the case of a real Hilbert space which seems to be a difficult problem. We have also obtained some results on the so-called n-th (linear) polarization constant of a Banach space which is an isometric property of the space. Finally, known polynomial inequalities have been derived as simple consequences of various results related to plank problems.

  • Let 𝓟n denote the space of all complex polynomials $P(z)=\sum\limits_{j=0}^{n}{\alpha}_jz^j$ of degree n. Let P ∈ 𝓟n, for any complex number α, DαP(z) = nP(z) + (α - z)P'(z), denote the polar derivative of the polynomial P(z) with respect to α and Bn denote a family of operators that maps 𝓟n into itself. In this paper, we combine the operators B and Dα and establish certain operator preserving inequalities concerning polynomials, from which a variety of interesting results can be obtained as special cases.

  • Let $P(z):=\sum\limits^{n}_{j=0}A_jz^j$, Aj ∈ ℂm×m, 0 ≤ j ≤ n be a matrix polynomial of degree n, such that An ≥ An-1 ≥ . . . ≥ A0 ≥ 0, An > 0. Then the eigenvalues of P(z) lie in the closed unit disk. This theorem proved by Dirr and Wimmer [IEEE Trans. Automat. Control 52(2007), 2151-2153] is infact a matrix extension of a famous and elegant result on the distribution of zeros of polynomials known as Eneström-Kakeya theorem. In this paper, we prove a more general result which inter alia includes the above result as a special case. We also prove an improvement of a result due to Lê, Du, Nguyên [Oper. Matrices, 13(2019), 937-954] besides a matrix extention of a result proved by Mohammad [Amer. Math. Monthly, vol.74, No.3, March 1967].

  • Working with the various special functions of mathematical physics and applied mathematics we often encounter inverse relations of the type $F_n(x)=\sum\limits_{k=0}^{n}A^n_kG_k(x)$ and $ G_n(x)=\sum\limits_{k=0}^{n}B_k^nF_k(x)$, where 0, 1, 2,$\cdots$. Here $F_n(x)$, $G_n(x)$ denote special polynomial functions, and $A_k^n$, $B_k^n$ denote coefficients found by use of the orthogonal properties of $F_n(x)$ and $G_n(x)$, or by skillful series manipulations. Typically $G_n(x)=x^n$ and $F_n(x)=P_n(x)$, the n-th Legendre polynomial. We give a collection of inverse series pairs of the type $f(n)=\sum\limits_{k=0}^{n}A_k^ng(k)$ if and only if $g(n)=\sum\limits_{k=0}^{n}B_k^nf(k)$, each pair being based on some reasonably well-known special function. We also state and prove an interesting generalization of a theorem of Rainville in this form.

  • In this note, the $q$-extension of the twisted Lerch Euler zeta functions considered by Jang [Bull. Korean Math. Soc. 47 (2010), no. 6, 1181-1188] is further investigated, and the generalized multiplication theorem for the $q$-extension of the twisted Lerch Euler zeta functions is given. As applications, some well-known results in the references are deduced as special cases.

  • We generate ring class fields of imaginary quadratic fields in terms of the special values of certain eta-quotients, which are related to the relative norms of Siegel-Ramachandra invariants. These give us minimal polynomials with relatively small coefficients from which we are able to solve certain quadratic Diophantine equations concerning non-convenient numbers.
