  • As the mobile devices and the wireless networks have high-performance capabilities, it is possible to synchronize the spatio-temporal data of a server with the spatio-temporal data of a mobile device which are collected at a field. However, since the server process the synchronization which the model device requests, the whole synchronizations of mass mobile devices take long time. In this paper, we propose the scheme to process concurrently the synchronizations of mobile devices to use multi-queue which does not conflict.

  • This study aimed to construct an integrated database using the same spatio-temporal unit by employing various public-data types with different real-time information provision cycles and spatial units. Towards this end, three temporal interpolation methods (piecewise constant interpolation, linear interpolation, nonlinear interpolation) and a spatial matching method by district boundaries was proposed. The case study revealed that the linear interpolation is an excellent method, and the spatial matching method also showed good results. It is hoped that various prediction models and data analysis methods will be developed in the future using different types of data in the analysis database.

  • Various techniques including histograms, sampling and parametric techniques have been proposed to estimate query result sizes for the query optimization. Histogram-based techniques are the most widely used form for the selectivity estimation in relational database systems. However, in the spatio-temporal databases for the moving objects, the continual changes of the data distribution suffer the direct utilization of the state of the art histogram techniques. Specifically for the future queries, we need another methodology that considers the updated information and keeps the accuracy of the result. In this paper we propose a novel approach based upon the duality and the marginal distribution to construct a histogram with very little time since the spatio-temporal histogram requires the data distribution defined by query predicates. We use data synopsis method in the dual space to construct spatio-temporal histograms. Our method is robust to changing data distributions during a certain period of time while the objects keep the linear movements. An additional feature of our approach supports the dynamic update incrementally and maintains the accuracy of the estimated result.

  • In this paper, we propose a new spatio-temporal representation scheme which can model moving objets trajectories effectively in video data and a new signature-based access method for moving objects trajectories which can support efficient retrieval on user query based on moving objects trajectories. The proposed spatio-temporal representation scheme supports content-based retrieval based on moving objects trajectories and concept-based retrieval based on concepts(semantics) which are acquired through the location information of moving objects trajectories. Also, compared with the sequential search, our signature-based access method can improve retrieval performance by reducing a large number of disk accesses because it access disk using only retrieved candidate signatures after it first scans all signatures and performs filtering before accessing the data file. Finally, we show the experimental results that proposed scheme is superior to the Li and Shan's scheme in terns of both retrieval effectiveness and efficiency.

  • For consistent vegetation monitoring, it is necessary to generate time-series vegetation index datasets at fine temporal and spatial scales by fusing the complementary characteristics between temporal and spatial scales of multiple satellite data. In this study, we quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed the prediction accuracy of time-series change information extracted from spatio-temporal fusion models of multiple satellite data for vegetation monitoring. As for the spatio-temporal fusion models, we applied two models that have been widely employed to vegetation monitoring, including a Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (STARFM) and an Enhanced Spatial and Temporal Adaptive Reflectance Fusion Model (ESTARFM). To quantitatively evaluate the prediction accuracy, we first generated simulated data sets from MODIS data with fine temporal scales and then used them as inputs for the spatio-temporal fusion models. We observed from the comparative experiment that ESTARFM showed better prediction performance than STARFM, but the prediction performance for the two models became degraded as the difference between the prediction date and the simultaneous acquisition date of the input data increased. This result indicates that multiple data acquired close to the prediction date should be used to improve the prediction accuracy. When considering the limited availability of optical images, it is necessary to develop an advanced spatio-temporal model that can reflect the suggestions of this study for vegetation monitoring.

  • Data stream collected from sensors contain a large amount of useful information including causality relationships. The causality join query for data stream is to retrieve a set of pairs (cause, effect) from streams of data. A part of causality pairs may however be lost from the query result, due to the delay from sensors to a data stream management system, and the limited size of sliding windows. In this paper, we first investigate spatial, temporal, and spatio-temporal aspects of the causality join query for data stream. Second, we propose several strategies for sliding window management based on these observations. The accuracy of the proposed strategies is studied by intensive experiments, and the result shows that we improve the accuracy of causality join query in data stream from simple FIFO strategy.

  • Since spatio-temporal local features for video representation have become an important issue of modeless bottom-up approaches in action recognition, various methods for feature extraction and description have been proposed in many papers. In particular, BoF(bag of features) has been promised coherent recognition results. The most important part for BoF is how to represent dynamic information of actions in videos. Most of existing BoF methods consider the video as a spatio-temporal volume and describe neighboring 3D interest points as complex volumetric patches. To simplify these complex 3D methods, this paper proposes a novel method that builds BoF representation as a way to learn 2D interest points directly from video data. The basic idea of proposed method is to gather feature points not only from 2D xy spatial planes of traditional frames, but from the 2D time axis called spatio-temporal frame as well. Such spatial-temporal features are able to capture dynamic information from the action videos and are well-suited to recognize human actions without need of 3D extensions for the feature descriptors. The spatio-temporal BoF approach using SIFT and SURF feature descriptors obtains good recognition rates on a well-known actions recognition dataset. Compared with more sophisticated scheme of 3D based HoG/HoF descriptors, proposed method is easier to compute and simpler to understand.

  • Video Completion refers to a computer vision technique which restores damaged images by filling missing pixels with suitable color in a video sequence. We propose a new video completion technique to fill in image holes which are caused by removing an unnecessary object in a video sequence, where two objects cross each other in the presence of camera motion. We remove the closer object from a camera which results in image holes. Then these holes are filled by color information of some others frames. First of all, spatio-temporal volumes of occluding and occluded objects are created according to the centroid of the objects. Secondly, a temporal search technique by voxel matching separates and removes the occluding object. Finally. these holes are filled by using spatial search technique. Seams on the boundary of completed pixels we removed by a simple blending technique. Experimental results using real video sequences show that the proposed technique produces new completed videos.

  • The Processing domains of spatio-temporal databases are divided into time-series databases for moving objects and sequence databases for discrete historical objects. Recently the selectivity estimation techniques for query optimization in spatio-temporal databases have been studied, but focused on query optimization in time-series databases. There wat no previous work on the selectivity estimation techniques for sequence databates as well. Therefore, we construct T-Minskew histogram for query optimization In sequence databases and propose a selectivity estimation method using the T-Minskew histogram. Furthermore we propose an effective histogram maintenance technique for food performance of the histogram.

  • In this paper, the performance of wideband CDMA system with smart antenna is analyzed for different bandwidth(1.25MHz, 2.5MHz, 5MHz) and angular spread at base station. In detail, the spatio-temporal wideband multipath vector channel model is proposed. And the received signals in 2D-RAKE receiver are rigorously analyzed in proposed vector channel model. We consider the effect of correlation between any two elements of antenna array. Several multipahts within one chip are distinguished into each one and the strongest signal is selected as a desired one. As a result, the performance of W-CDMA system with smart antenna in spatio-temporal wideband vector channel has been improved in proportion to the increase of angular spread and bandwidth.
