  • The purpose of this study is to find out the spatial characteristics of the multi-housing units in Seoul and Kyung-gi area since 2006. Literature review and content analysis were used for this study and 82units of the big size over $165m^2$ were analyzed to review such design characteristics as spatial composition, layout and linkage. Through this study, the following conclusions have been reached; 1) Most unit plans had 4LDK and 3bath types including family room as a public space. This results shows that family-room and bathroom has recently become more important than number of rooms in multi-housing units planning. 2) Diversity of plan figures such as mass-mixing, mass-separation and polygons(L, V-type)was showed in most unit plan, breaking from the standardized forms of box types. 3) Intermediated spaces such as foyers and halls in entrance zone were planned and sub-entrance into kitchen were planned for the various types of circulation and work-efficiency. Cases had private space separated from public space, the dispersion of rooms with the increase of connection by corridors, L-DK meaning the living room isolated from the dining and kitchen, partially located living room for a view in area distribution. The spatial planning of master-zone mostly consists of the types of two-rooms and an entry into a foyer(library, dress-powder room, bathroom and master bedroom). This study has a significant meaning on grasping current trend in Korean multi-housing and to provide information for future direction on housing-unit design.

  • In order to achieve excellent spatial resolution, very small scintillation pixels are used in detectors of positron emission tomography for small animals. However, by using these very small scintillation pixels, scintillation pixels at the edge of the array may overlap in a flood image. To solve this problem, a light guide capable of changing the distribution of light was used. Depending on the material of the light guide, the light spreading tendency is different, and accordingly, the presence or absence of overlapping is different depending on the material of the light guide used. In this study, instead of the conventional glass light guide, a detector using the same material as the scintillation pixel was designed. A scintillator light guide has a higher refractive index than a glass light guide, so the light spread is different. Flood images were acquired to evaluate the degree of separation of the scintillation pixels at the edge of the detector using the two light guides. The degree of separation was evaluated by calculating the distance between the center and the spatial resolution of the image of two scintillation pixels at the edge of the obtained flood image. As a result, when the scintillator light guide was used, better spatial resolution was shown, and the distance between centers of scintillation pixels was wider. When a detector is constructed using a scintillator light guide instead of a conventional glass light guide, it is possible to use a smaller scintillation pixel, thereby securing better spatial resolution.

  • In general, Independent component analysis (ICA) is a statistical blind source separation technique, used either in spatial or temporal domain. The spatial or temporal ICAs are designed to extract maximally independent sources in respective domains. The underlying sources for spatiotemporal data (sequence of images) can not always be guaranteed to be independent, therefore spatial ICA extracts the maximally independent spatial sources, deteriorating the temporal sources and vice versa. For such data types, spatiotemporal ICA tries to create a balance by simultaneous optimization in both the domains. However, the spatiotemporal ICA suffers the problem of source ambiguity. Recently, constrained ICA (c-ICA) has been proposed which incorporates a priori information to extract the desired source. In this study, we have extended the c-ICA for better analysis of spatiotemporal data. The proposed algorithm, i.e., constrained spatiotemporal ICA (constrained st-ICA), tries to find the desired independent sources in spatial and temporal domains with no source ambiguity. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested against the conventional spatial and temporal ICAs using simulated data. Furthermore, its performance for the real spatiotemporal data, functional magnetic resonance images (fMRI), is compared with the SPM (conventional fMRI data analysis tool). The functional maps obtained with the proposed algorithm reveal more activity as compared to SPM.

  • This paper examines the development process of China's venture capital industry and the characteristics of its capital spatial configuration. The results reveal that the development of China's venture capital industry has its unique modality, which varies greatly from existing studies, namely, the desynchronized paces of industry development as well as the regional real capital supply and demand trend. More detailed observation shows the Chinese venture capital's spatial configuration has three main characteristics: first, the separation of the registered location and the actual location of business operation; second, the division and spatial configuration of the venture fund's capital circulation. To find the relevant factors related to the above phenomena, a correlation analysis was conducted between both market factors and non-market factors with the above capital spatial configuration. The analysis confirmed that besides the market factors, local legislative condition also presents a high correlation with the phenomena.

  • When a large number of identical cylinders are placed in an array with equal separation distance, near-resonant phenomena may occur between cylinders at critical frequencies, and cause large wave forces on each element of the array. In this paper, 64 truncated circular cylinders arranged in 4 rows and 16 columns are considered to check occurrence of near-resonant phenomena and performance of theoretical predictions based on the potential flow. Experiments are conducted in head waves to measure the wave elevation along the longitudinal centerline of the model, and measured results are compared with numerical ones. Attention is focused on the spatial variation of the wave amplitude around the first near-trapped-mode frequency.

  • Cheomseongdae is the masonry stone structure with the cultural and historical values. But, this structure has the various damages such as cracks, gaps, slope variations and ground subsidence. So, the interests for the safety security in the structural parts have been increased. Therefore, this study performs the structural modelling which considers the several damage cases, and then evaluates the structural behavior characteristics through the discrete element analysis. Especially, this study checks the swelling and displacement gap of the whole structure and the separation between the neighboring members.

  • Spatial variability of ground motions has significant influence on dynamic response of longitudinal structures such as bridges and tunnels. The coherency function, which quantifies the degree of positive or negative correlation between two ground motions, is often used to describe the spatially variable ground motions. This paper compares two available procedures for developing spatially variable ground time histories from a given coherency function. Hao's method shows serious limitation, resulting in unrealistic decrease in coherency with increase in distance Abrahamason's method, on the other hand, preserves important characteristics of the reference ground motion. Therefore, the Abrahamason's method is recommended to be used in developing spatially varying ground motions.

  • From long time ago, stairs are performed the central role of vertical circulation system in architectural planning for convenience of human. The purpose of this study is to find the spacial characteristics of stairs in architectural space. Two methods In this study are discussed. First, it is to extract the formal elements in its stairs shape raising an impulse of visual-perceptible recognition. Second, it is to analysis its characteristic through relationship between stairs and spacial elements. In conclusion, the characteristics of stairs in architectural space have as follows 1) spatial connection - to connect between space and other space or masses; 2) spatial separation - to separate between inner space and other space; 3) openness or closeness of space; 4) directed-tention of space.

  • A predictive controller is designed based upon stochastic methods for compensation of network time delay which caused by the spatial separation between controllers and actuators. Current commands are generated by using time varying probability functions which can be defined according to the values of previous control inputs and actual outputs. To demonstrate the effect of this control methodology, simulation experiments are performed. The results show that even an unstabilized system by a long time delay can be stabilized with this predictive controller.

  • In this study, following works have been carried out : division of Nakdong River Basin into 25 sub basins, development of a technique to evaluate spatial distribution of rainfall and analysis of rainfall data of 169 stations, selection of control points, and selection of a hydrologic model(SSARR). The runoff analysis showed that the surface-subsurface separation and soil moisture index parameters are the most important two to the simulation result.
