  • Counts or averages over arbitrary regions are often analyzed using conditionally autoregressive (CAR) models. The spatial neighborhoods within CAR model are generally formed using only the inter-distance or boundaries between the sub-regions. Kyung and Ghosh (2009) proposed a new class of models to accommodate spatial variations that may depend on directions, using different weights given to neighbors in different directions. The proposed model, directional conditionally autoregressive (DCAR) model, generalized the usual CAR model by accounting for spatial anisotropy. Bayesian inference method is discussed based on efficient Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) sampling of the posterior distributions of the parameters. The method is illustrated using a data set of median property prices across Greater Glasgow, Scotland, in 2008.

  • Motion Compensated Frame Interpolation(MCFI) has been used to reduce motion jerkiness for dynamic scenes and motion blurriness for LCD-panel display as post processing for high quality display. However, MCFI that directly uses the motion information often suffers from annoying artifacts such as blockiness, ghost effects, and deformed structures. So in this paper, we propose a novel edge-based adaptively weighted vector median filter as post-processing. At first, the proposed method generates an edge direction map through a sobel mask and a weighted maximum frequent filter. And then, outlier MVs are removed by average of angle difference and replaced by a median MV of $3{\times}3$ window. Finally, weighted vector median filter adjusts the weighting values based on edge direction derived from spatial coherence between the edge direction continuity and motion vector. The results show that the performance of PSNR and SSIM are higher up to 0.5 ~ 1 dB and 0.4 ~ 0.8 %, respectively.

  • Images are often corrupted by noises during signal acquisition and transmission. Among those noises, additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and impulse noise are most representative. For different types of noise have different characters, how to remove them separately from degraded image is one of the most fundamental problems. Thus, a modified image restoration algorithm is proposed in this paper, which can not only remove impulse noise of random values, but also remove the AWGN selectively. The noise detection step is by calculating the intensity difference and the spatial distance between pixels in a mask. To divide two different noises, the method is based on three weighted parameters. And the weighted parameters in the filtering mask depend on spatial distances, positions of impulse noise and standard deviation of AWGN. We also use the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) to evaluate restoration performance, and simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method performs better than conventional median-type filters, in preserving edge details.

  • The demand for handling images in digital form has increased dramatically in recent years. Digital image compression is required to store and transmit mass information in different from general information. JPEG(Joint Photographic Experts Group) committee founded by CCITT and ISO is define the still-image standard compression/restoration algorithm. JPEG is proposed the standard of grayscale and color still-image compression/restoration. In the image quality, JPEG is applicable to the various applications in which compression is able to from 1/10 to 1/50 without the visible obstacle. In this paper, we proposed that the proposed method enhance the compression ratio which is reducing the higher frequency in order to increasing the spatial redundancy in the image. The proposed method is using the low pass filter in order to reducing the higher frequency. The low-pass filters are using the median filter and convolution filter in the spatial domain, FFT filter in the frequency domain. We acquired the additive compression ratio reducing the higher frequency using the low-pass filter.

  • In this Paper, we propose an efficient de-interlacing algorithm using temporal and spatial domain information. In the proposed scheme, motion estimation is performed same parity fields, i.e., if current field is even field, reference fields are previous even field and forward even field. And then motion vector refinement is performed to improve the accuracy of motion vectors. In the interpolating step, we use median filter to reduce the interpolation error caused by incorrect motion vector. Simulations conducted for various video sequences have shown the efficiency of the proposed interpolator with significant improvement over previous methods in terms of both PSNR and perceived image quality.

  • This paper presents the results of an assessment of the seismic fragility of a long, curved multi-frame bridge under multi-support earthquake excitations. To achieve this aim, the numerical model of columns retrofitted with elliptical steel jackets was developed and validated using existing experimental results. A detailed nonlinear numerical model of the bridge that can capture the inelastic response of various components was then created. Using nonlinear time-history analyses for a set of stochastically generated spatially variable ground motions, component demands were derived and then convolved with new capacity-based limit state models to obtain seismic fragility curves. The comparison of failure probabilities obtained from uniform and multi-support excitation analyses revealed that the consideration of spatial variability significantly reduced the median value of fragility curves for most components except for the abutments. This observation indicates that the assumption of uniform motions may considerably underestimate seismic demands. Moreover, the spatial correlation of ground motions resulted in reduced dispersion of demand models that consequently decreased the dispersion of fragility curves for all components. Therefore, the spatial variability of ground motions needs to be considered for reliable assessment of the seismic performance of long multi-frame bridge structures.

  • Image processing steps consist of image acquisition, pre-processing, region segmentation and recognition, and the images are easily corrupted by noise during the data transmission, data capture, and data processing. Impulse noise and gaussian noise are major noises, which can occur during the process. Many filters such as mean filter, median filter, weighted median filter, Cheikh filter, and Kyu-cheol Lee filter were proposed as spatial noise reduction filters so far. Many researches have been focused on the reduction of impulse noise, but comparatively the research in the reduction of gaussian noise has been neglected. For the reduction of gaussian noise, subset averaged median filter, using median information and subset average information of pixels in a window. was proposed. At this time, consider of the window size as 3$^{*}$3 pixel. The window is divided to 4 subsets consisted of 4 pixels. First of all, we calculate the average value of each subset, and then find the median value by sorting the average values and center pixel's value. In this paper, a better reduction of gaussian noise was proved. The proposed algorithms were implemented by ANSI C language on a Sun Ultra 2 for testing purposes and the effects and results of the filter in the various levels of noise and images were proposed by comparing the values of PSNR, MSE, and RMSE with the value of the other existing filtering methods.thods.

  • In Korea, cable television(CATV) broadcasting has begun in March, 1995. This Paper aims at examining the location of CATV broadcasting station, and demand density(numbers of viewer houshold) of broadcasting area, and at clarifing the factors affecting subscription. The results are as follows: The number of CATV stations is 54 in 1996, and these CATV stations are mainly located in larger cities. The correlation between the number of established or planned CATV station and the number of household is very high. In sphered broadcasting area Permitted in 1997, the location of CATV station is about 73,000 household and 230,000 persons in the minimum values of household and population, and diameter of sphered broadcasting area is 40.6 km in mean. The factors affecting subscription rates of CATV are median age and supply rates of apartment of each dong in Chongju city and each myun in Chongwon county. The correlation between subscription rates of CATV and supply rates of apartment appears higher than correlation between subscription rates and median age other factors based on residual analysis of regression equation are established period of transmission network of CATV and acceptance attitude of dwellers.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm for interlaced-to-progressive conversion by the weighted summation of the information collected from spatial do-interlacing method, in which the weighted edge based line average is applied, and the temporal method in which the motion compensation is employed by using hi-directional BMA (block matching algorithm). We employed time-recursive and motion adaptive processing as motion detection is involved. Also, a median filter is used to deal with limitation of the linear summation in which only an intermediate of values being involved is determined. The main goal of the approach is to overcome the shortcomings of each of the do-interlacing techniques without significant increment of the computational complexity, and the proposed method is apt to implement in hardware for real-time processing.
