A spatial data warehouse is a system that stores geographical information as a subject oriented, integrated, time-variant, non-volatile collection for efficiently supporting decision. This system consists of a builder and a spatial data warehouse server. A spatial data warehouse server suspends user services, stores transferred data in the data repository and constructs index using stored data for short response time. Existing methods that construct index are bulk-insertion and index transfer methods. The Bulk-insertion method has high clustering cost for constructing index and searching cost. The Index transfer method has improper for the index reconstruction method of a spatial data warehouse where periodic source data are inserted. In this paper, the efficient index reconstruction method using a partial index in a spatial data warehouse is proposed. This method is an efficient reconstruction method that transfers a partial index and stores a partial index with expecting physical location. This method clusters a spatial data making it suitable to construct index and change treated clusters to a partial index and transfers pages that store a partial index. A spatial data warehouse server reserves sequent physical space of a disk and stores a partial index in the reserved space. Through inserting a partial index into constructed index in a spatial data warehouse server, searching, splitting, remodifing costs are reduced to the minimum.

Standard lots, which are used to assess values of individual lots in Korea, have been criticized for their improper distribution. However, there has been very little evaluation for the spatial distribution of standard lots, and an evaluation method has never been developed. In order to overcome this situation, we attempt to assess the appropriateness of the spatial distribution of standard lots using the L-index and Monte Carlo simulation. The L-index is a well-known indicator of the complete spatial randomness (CSR) of points in spatial statistics. If the L-index of standard lots is similar to that of individual lots, the former is considered to be randomly distributed according to the latter. By analyzing L-indices of two study areas, Gangnam and Seongdong, we find a statistically significant difference in Gangnam area and a relatively small difference in Seongdong area. We confirm that the spatial distribution of standard lots is not CSR and that the L-index is useful as an evaluation method. These results suggest that the standard lot selection and management guidelines need to be modified to apply the spatial distribution of individual lots to the standard lot selection process.
This research was conducted on the conservation area of Baekdudaegan, Kangwondo under the purpose of evaluating bio-diversity according to the changes of spatial scale, using GIS data and spatial filtering method. The diversity index was calculated based on the information of species of The $5^{th}$ forest type map using Shannon-weaver index (H'), evenness index ($E_i$) and richness index ($R_i$). The diversity index was analyzed and compared according to the changes of 12 spatial scales from Kernel size $3{\times}3$ to $73{\times}73$ and basin unit. As for H' and $R_i$, spatial scale increased as diversity index decreased, while $E_i$ decreases gradually. H' and $R_i$ was highest; each 1.1 and 0.6, when the Kernel size was $73{\times}73$, while $E_i$ was 0.2, the lowest. When you look at according to the basin unit, for large basin unit, 'YeongDong' region shows higher diversity index than 'YeongSeo' region. For middle basin unit, 'Gangneung Namdaecheon' region, and for small basin unit, 'Gangneung Namdaecheon' and 'Gangneung Ohbongdaem' region shows high diversity index. When you look at the relationship between diversity index and Geographic factors, H' shows positive relation to curvature and sunshine factor while shows negative to elevation, slope, hillshade, and wetness index. Also $E_i$ was similar to the relationship between H' and Geographic factor. Meanwhile, $R_i$ shows positive relationship to curvature and sunshine factor, while negative to elevation, slope, hillshade, and wetness index. macro unit diversity index evaluation was possible through the GIS data and spatial filtering, and it can be a good source for local biosphere conservation policy making.
Mobile map services using PDA are prevailing because of the rapid developments of techniques of the internet and handhold devices recently. While the volume of spatial data is tremendous and the spatial operations are time-intensive, the PDA has small size memory and a low performance processor. Therefore, the spatial index for PDA should be small size and efficiently filter out the candidate objects of spatial operation as well. This paper proposes a spatial index far PDA called MHF(Multilevel Hashing File). The MHF has simple structure for storage efficiency and uses a hashing technique, which is direct search method, for search efficiency. This paper also designs a compression technique for MBR. which occupies almost 80% of index data in the two dimensional case. We call it HMBR. Although the HMBR technique reduces the MB\ulcorner size to almost a third, it shows good filtering efficiency because of no information loss by quantization in case of small objects that occupy a major portion. Our experimental tests show that the proposed MHF index using HMBR technique is appropriate for PDA in terms of the size of index, the Number of MBR comparisons, the filtering efficiency and the execution time of spatial operations.

This paper describes that estimation methods for the distribution of consolidation settlements to investigate the influence of distribution characteristics of compression index on the spatial distribution of consolidation settlements. When the variation of compression index is considerable, the spatial distribution of compression index is estimated using ordinary cokriging. The spatial distribution of consolidation settlements estimated by considering both the variation of compression index and void ratio (CASE-1) is different from the conventional mean value of all soil properties (CASE-2). The settlement of CASE-1 shows the larger variation at short distances rather than that of CASE-2. Whereas the spatial settlement distribution of CASE-1 is affected by the spatial distribution of compression index and the thickness of consolidation layer, the distribution of CASE-2 is significantly influenced by the distribution of the thickness of consolidation layer.

When a spatial regression model that uses kernel density values as a dependent variable is applied to retail business data, a unique model cannot be selected because kernel density values change following kernel bandwidths. To overcome this problem, this paper suggests how to use the point pattern analysis, especially the L-index to select a unique spatial regression model. In this study, kernel density values of retail business are computed by the bandwidth, the distance of the maximum L-index and used as the dependent variable of spatial regression model. To test this procedure, we apply it to meeting room business data in Seoul, Korea. As a result, a spatial error model (SEM) is selected between two popular spatial regression models, a spatial lag model and a spatial error model. Also, a unique SEM based on the real distribution of retail business is selected. We confirm that there is a trade-off between the goodness of fit of the SEM and the real distribution of meeting room business over the bandwidth of maximum L-index.
This paper presents an energy-efficient spatial join algorithm for multiple sensor networks employing a spatial semijoin strategy. For optimization of the algorithm, we propose a GR-tree index and a grid-ID-based spatial approximation method, which are unique to sensor networks. The GR-tree is a distributed spatial index over the sensor nodes, which efficiently prunes away the nodes that will not participate in a spatial join result. The grid-ID-based approximation provides great reduction in communication cost by approximating many spatial objects in simpler forms. Our experiments demonstrate that the algorithm outperforms existing methods in reducing energy consumption at the nodes.
For supporting LBS service, recent studies on spatial network databases (SNDB) have been done actively. In order to gain good performance on query processing in SNDB, we, in this paper. design efficient storage and index structures for spatial network data, point of interests (POIs), and moving objects on spatial networks. First, we design a spatial network file organization for maintaining the spatial network data itself consisting of both node and edges. Secondly, we design a POI storage and index structure which is used for gaining fast accesses to POIs, like restaurant, hotel, and gas station. Thirdly, we design a signature-based storage and index structure for efficiently maintaining past, current, and expected future trajectory information of moving objects. Finally, we show that the storage and index structures designed in this paper outperform the existing storage structures for spatial networks as well as the conventional trajectory index structures for moving objects.
Typical tree-based spatial index structures are divided into a data-partitioning index structure such as R-Tree and a space-partitioning index structure such as KD-Tree. In recent years, researches on hybrid index structures combining advantages of these index structures have been performed extensively. However, because the split boundary extension of the node to which a new spatial object is inserted may extend split boundaries of other neighbor nodes in existing researches, overlaps between nodes are increased and the query processing cost is raised. In this paper, we propose a hybrid index structure, called SQR-Tree that can support efficient processing of spatial queries to solve these problems. SQR-Tree is a combination of SQ-Tree(Spatial Quad- Tree) which is an extended Quad-Tree to process non-size spatial objects and R-Tree which actually stores spatial objects associated with each leaf node of SQ-Tree. Because each SQR-Tree node has an MBR containing sub-nodes, the split boundary of a node will be extended independently and overlaps between nodes can be reduced. In addition, a spatial object is inserted into R-Tree in each split data space and SQ-Tree is used to identify each split data space. Since only R-Trees of SQR-Tree in the query area are accessed to process a spatial query, query processing cost can be reduced. Finally, we proved superiority of SQR-Tree through experiments.

One of the most challenging and encouraging applications of state-of-the-art technology is the field of traffic control systems. It combines techniques from the areas of telecommunications and computer science to establish traffic information and various assistance services. The support of the system requires a moving objects database system (MODB) that stores moving objects efficiently and performs spatial or temporal queries with time conditions. In this paper, we propose schemes to distribute an index nodes of trajectory based on spatio-temporal proximity and the characteristics of moving objects. The scheme predicts the extendible MBB of nodes of index through the prediction of moving object, and creates a parallel trajectory index. The experimental evaluation shows that the proposed schemes give us the performance improvement by 15%. This result makes an improvement of performance by 50% per one disk.
