  • Recently, fire resistance of high performance concrete for explosive spatting was issued as high performance concrete was vulnerable to the explosive spatting in initial fire. Therefore, This study is willing to propose fundamental data for quick and accurate diagnosis of deteriorated concrete structure by fire damage with making variable concrete test specimen, exposing high temperature environment, observing the explosive spatting and examining engineering property.

  • This paper presents an experimental investigation on the performance of concrete with and without glass powder (GP) subjected to elevated temperatures. Mechanical and physicochemical properties of concretes were studied at both ambient and high temperatures. One of the major environmental concerns is disposal or recycling of the waste materials. However, a high volume of the industrial production has generated a considerable amount of waste materials which have a number of adverse impacts on the environment. Further, use of glass or by-products in concrete production has advantages for improving some or all of the concrete properties. The economic incentives and environmental benefits in terms of reduced carbon footprint are also the reason for using wastes in concrete. The occurrence of spalling, compressive strength, mass loss, chemical composition, crystalline phase, and thermal analysis of CPG before and after exposure to various temperatures (20, 200, 400, and $600^{\circ}C$) were comprehensively investigated. The results indicated that, the critical temperature range of CPG was between $400^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$.

  • This study evaluated fire resistance performance for hybrid (polypropylene+steel) fiber reinforced high strength concrete column. Full-size columns were constructed and tested with or without fibers using ISO-834 fire curve. As the result of test, Control specimen occurred serious spalling and indicated rapidly internal temperature increasing. Specimen with polypropylene fiber occurred not spalling but steady internal temperature increasing. Specimen with hybrid fiber occurred not spalling as well as does not propagated temperature distribution. Therefore, hybrid fiber reinforced column specimen indicated a good fire resistance performance than other cases.

  • After applying the fiber cocktail(polypropylene and steel fibers) into the mixture of high strength concrete with a compressive strength of 50 MP, the fire test was carried out on specimens in order to evaluate the fire resistance performance, such as possible explosive spalling, temperature distributions of concrete and rebar. According to an enforcement ordinance, four column specimens were exposed to the fire for 180 minutes based on the standard curve of ISO-834. No explosive spalling has been observed. The required minimum quantity of polypropylene to prevent explosive spalling is more than 0.57 kg per unit concrete volume. The comparing test results from temperature distributions of concrete and rebar has found that the difference of fiber quantity is insignificant.

  • High strength concrete (HSC) has been mainly used in large SOC structures. HSC have superior property as well as improvement in durability compared with normal strength concrete. In spite of durability of HSC, explosive spalling in concrete front surface near the source of fire occurs serious problem in structural safety. Therefore, this study is concerned with experimentally investigation of fire resistance at high temperature due to fireproof material covering thickness in addition to concrete cover. From the test result, it was appeared that the use of fireproof material results in good performance for fire resistance and spalling prevention, and the optimal fireproof covering thickness is 1~3mm. On the other hand, the temperature was rapidly increased by explosive spalling within 30 minutes and showed very little rise caused by evaporation heat after then. It was also found that the void channel was remained at high temperature as PP fiber melts at about $200^{\circ}C$, and the pore pressure in concrete was decreased.

  • Recently, to prevent explosive spalling of high-strength concrete (HSC) members, the usage of nylon fiber instead of polypropylene fiber has increased. Past experimental studies have been conducted to examine the spalling and mechanical properties of HSC with nylon fibers when exposed to elevated temperature. However, the previous studies on HSC with nylon fibers subjected to high temperatures were performed only on the properties such as spalling, compressive strength, and elastic modulus rather than investigations on to the behaviors such as thermal strain, total strain, steady state creep, and transient creep. Therefore, in this study thermal strain, total strain, steady state creep, and transient creep of HSC mixed with nylon fibers with water to binder ratio of 0.30 to 0.15 were tested. The experimental results showed that nylon fibers did not affect the performance of HSC with nylon fibers at high temperatures. However, HSC with nylon fibers generated a larger transient creep strain than that of HSC without fibers and normal strength concrete.

  • This study investigated fundamental properties corresponding to mixtures for the high strength, and their properties of spalling prevention after a fire test. The results were summarized as following. For the flowability of using mixtures for the high strength, the target flow was satisfied with a small quantity of high performance reducing water agent to compare with silica fume. For the compressive strength in the case of using mixtures for the high strength, it was higher to compare with silica fume at 7 days, so it was proved that using mixtures for the high strength was profitable to prevent early frost damage. The compressive strength at the 28 days of silica fume and mixtures for the high strength were similar. There was no reduced tendency at the compressive strength according fiber contents, so it found out that the bonding strength between the fiber and concrete was hardly effective. For the spalling properties, the specimens without fibers were destroyed, however using over 0.05% of NY and PP fibers was effective to prevent spalling on the high strength concrete.

  • The spalling phenomenon occurs in high-strength concrete when several factors such as sharp temperature increase, high water content, low water/cement ratio and local stress concentration in material combine in the concrete material. On the basis of the factors, the preventing methods from the spalling are known as reduction of temperature increase, preventing of concrete fragmentation and fast drying of internal moisture. In this study, the reduction of temperature increase was proposed as the most effective spalling-preventing method among the spalling-preventing methods. Engineered cementitious composite for fireproof and repair materials was developed in order to protect the new and existing RC structures form exterior deterioration factors such as fire, cloride ion, etc. This study was carried out to estimate the fire-resisting performance of high strength concrete slab or tunnel lining by repaired engineered cementitious composite (ECC) or fiber reinforcement cemetitious composite (FRCC) under fire temperature curve. and them we will descrike the result of HIDA tunnel in Japan.

  • This paper describes the results of spalling by fire prevention of high performance concrete confining with metal-lath and containing PP fiber. According to test results, all the specimens without PP fiber shows entire failure after exposed to fire, while the other specimens confined with metal-lath has somewhat better spatting prevention performance than plain concrete specimens, which only show surface scale spatting combination of PP fiber with confinement of metal-lath leads to favorable spatting resistance. As PP fiber contents and thickness of metal-lath which is confined at concrete specimens increase, residual strength after exposed to fire shows to be increased.

  • This paper is to investigate the affecting factors on spalling of the high strength concrete including W/B, air content and moisture condition as well as PP fiber contents subjected to fire. An increase with 0.05% of PP fiber resulted in a reduction of slump flow by as much as 11%. Ten percent of air contents due to excessive amounts of AE agent does not lead to variance of slump flow, regardless of PP fiber content. For the effect of the compressive strength, high strength concrete with 15, 25 and 35% of W/B gained 60 MPa~100 MPa of the compressive strength. High strength concrete with H-air had half of compressive strength of that with L-air due to large amount of air. Fire test was conducted in accordance with KS F 2257-1 for 1 hour. Spalling did not occur with all specimens containing more than 0.10% of PP fiber except those with 15% of W/B. Moreover, it is interesting to note that the specimens with more than 10% of air content and with oven dried condition, respectively, had no spalling even if the content of PP fiber is 0.05 vol.%.
