Effect of Fiber Dispersion and Self-phase Modulation in Multi-channel Subcarrier Multiplexed Optical Signal Transmission

  • We investigated the combined effect of fiber chromatic dispersion and self-phase modulation (SPM) in multi-channel subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) optical transmission systems. We theoretically analyzed the transmission characteristics of the SCM signals with the effect of SPM and chromatic dispersion in a single-mode optical fiber by numerical simulations based on the nonlinear Schrodinger equation. The numerical simulation results revealed that the effect of fiber dispersion and SPM could occur independently between subcarrier channels in two-channel SCM systems for small optical modulation index (OMI) and large channel spacing. However, for large OMI, small channel spacing, and large fiber launching power, we found a performance degradation of the two-channel system compared to that of a single-channel system. These parameters are therefore important for the optimization of multi-channel SCM systems applicable to radio over fiber networks.

시호(柴胡)의 재식밀도(栽植密度)가 생육(生育)과 수량(收量)에 미치는 영향(影響) (Effects of Planting Density on Agronomic Traits and Yield in Bupleurum falcatum L.)

  • 시호(柴胡) 성력화(省力化) 재배기술(栽培技術) 개발(開發)의 일환(一環)으로 기계파종시(機械播種時) 재식밀도(栽植密度) 차이(差異)가 생육과6 수량에 미치는 영향을 검토(檢討)코자 시험(試驗)한 결과(結果)를 요약(要約)하면 다음과 같다. 1. 인력파종기(人力播種機)를 이용(利用)한 파종(播種) 소요시간(所票時間)은 손파종(播種)에 비하여 조간(條間) 20 및 30cm 처리(處理) 모두 96%의 파종노력을 절감(節減)할 수 있었다. 2. 재식밀도(栽植密度)에 따른 입모수(立毛數)는 조간(條間) 및 주간(株間)이 좁아질수록 많아졌으며, 경장(莖長) 및 마디 수는 차이가 없었다. 3. 주간거리(株間距離)가 좁아질수록 경태(莖太), 분기수(分枝數), 지상부종(地上部重), 규근경(圭根莖), 생체중(生體重) 및 건근중(乾根重)등이 감소(減少)되는 경향(傾向)이었다. 4. 근수량(根收量)은 조간(條間) 20cm 처리(處理)가 30cm보다 증가(增加)되었으며, 주간거리(株間距離)에 따라서는 조간(條間) 20 및 30cm 처리(處理) 모두 밀식(密植)일수록 증가(增加)되어 적정(適定) 재식밀도(栽植密度)는 조간(條間) 20cm에 조파(條播) 또는 주간(株間) 5cm로 나타났다. 5. 재식밀도(栽植密度)를 다르게 할 경우 입모수(立毛數)와 근수량(根收量)과는 정상관(正相關)을 보여 유의성(有意性)이 인정(認定) 되었다.

수치해석을 이용한 압축 분산형 앵커의 내하체 최적 간격 산정 (Evaluation of Optimum Spacing between Anchor Bodies of Distributive Compression Anchor Using Numerical Simulation)

  • 압축 분산형 앵커는 여러 개의 내하체를 이용하여 그라우트에 발생하는 압축응력을 분산시키고 앵커 인장력을 증가시키는 앵커이다. 압축 분산형 앵커의 경우 내하체 사이의 간격이 그라우트 응력에 큰 영향을 미친다. 그러나, 현재까지 내하체 간격에 대한 연구가 매우 부족하며 설계기준 또한 제시되어 있지 않은 실정이다. 그러므로, 본 연구에서는 유한요소 수치해석을 수행하여 내하체 간격이 그라우트 응력분포에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 우선, 압축형 앵커에 대해 수행된 현장 재하시험 결과와 비교하여 수치모델링의 적용성을 검증하였다. 그리고, 지반조건, 내하체 간격, 하중크기 등을 변화시키는 변수 연구를 수행하였다. 해석결과, 내하체 간격이 좁아지면 그라우트 최대 압축응력이 증가하며, 내하체 간격이 넓어지면 그라우트에 인장응력이 발생하였다. 그러므로, 그라우트 내 압축응력의 중첩과 인장응력 발생을 최소화하는 내하체 간격을 최적간격으로 정의하고, 지반조건과 하중크기에 따른 최적간격을 제시하였다.

수제 설치간격에 따른 수제주변 흐름특성에 관한 실험 연구 (An Experimental Study on a Characteristics of Flow around Groynes for Groyne Spacing)

  • 군수제 설계에 있어서 수제 설치 간격은 매우 중요한 인자이며 설치간격에 따라 수제역의 역흐름 및 재순환영역의 특성이 다양하게 변화할 뿐 만 아니라 수로 본류영역의 흐름에도 영향을 미친다. 수제간격에 따른 수제역과 수로흐름의 변화는 수제설치에 따른 하도변화, 국부세굴 및 하안 침식에 주요 원인이 될 것이므로 이에 대한 분석이 필요하다. 이에 본 연구에서는 군수제의 적절한 수제간격 결정을 위한 기초자료 제공을 목적으로 수제설치로 인해 변화되는 수로와 수제역 흐름을 수리 실험을 통해 분석하였다. 실험조건은 수제 간격을 수제길이의 1배~12배 범위에 대해 12 조건을 수행하였으며 LSPIV 기법과 ADV를 이용하여 흐름장을 측정하였다. 실험결과, 수제역에는 수제간격이 수제길이의 세 배 이상에서는 두 개, 열 배 이상에서는 세 개의 소용돌이 흐름이 발생하였으며, 하안침식의 원인이 될 수 있는 역류속은 네 배 이상에서 접근유속의 20% 이상 감소되는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 수로 본류의 유속은 수제설치로 인해 최대 1.3~2.0 배까지 증가하는데, 수제간격이 증가할수록 변화폭이 크게 증가하며 최대유속 발생위치는 수제간격의 0.7~0.8 하류 지점에서 측정되었다.

Effects of Injection Configuration on Mixing in Supersonic Combustor

  • The effects of injector spacing s and injector diameter d on mixing are numerically investigated in supersonic combustor with perpendicular injection behind a backward-facing step. Simulations are reported for airstream Mach number of 2.4. Parameters are changed on following 4 cases to investigate the effects of injector configuration on mixing efficiency $\eta_m$. In the case of varying d or s, dynamic pressure ratio $Rq(=(pu^2)_j/(pu^2)_a)$ is also varied to keep bulk equivalence ratio $\Phi({\oe})Rq.d^2/s)$ constant. (l) Injector spacing s is varied at constant $\Phi$=0.5, 1, 2 for injector diameter d=6mm. In the case of $\Phi$=1, $\eta_m$ has its maximum value at s=24mm. The reason is that increase of $\eta_m$. , by widening spacing at Rq=constant competes with decrease of $\eta_m$ by increasing Rq at s=constant. When spacing is narrow, the flow field of vicinity of injector becomes two-dimensional because adjacent jets interferes each other. By widening spacing, air is easily entrained by three-dimensional effect. This mechanism also appears in the case of $\Phi$=0.5, 2 for d=6mm, and $\eta_m$. reaches its maximum value at s=24mm for $\Phi$=0.5 and at s=42mm for $\Phi$=2. (2) In the case of injector diameter d varied at $\Phi$=1 for s=30mm, $\eta_m$. has its maximum value at d=3mm. The reason is that decrease of $\eta_m$ by increasing injector diameter competes with increase of $\eta_m$ by decreasing Rq at d=constant.(3) In the case of s varied at $\Phi$=0.5, 1,2 for d=3mm, the injector spacing at which mixing efficiency has its maximum value is s= 18mm for $\Phi$=0.5, s=24mm for $\Phi$=1, s=24mm for $\Phi$=2. Therefore it is found that d=3mm and s=24mm can be optimum configuration over a range of $\Phi$=0.5~2.(4) The effect of h on the optimum spacing is investigated. s is varied for d=6mm at step height h=4, 6, 8mm. The simulation results do not show significant change on the step height.

롤러 전압 콘크리트 포장의 공기량 및 기포간격계수와 장기 내구성의 상관관계 분석을 위한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on Correlation Analysis of Air-void, Air-spacing factor and Long-term Durability for Roller-compacted Concrete pavement)

  • PURPOSES : The use of roller-compacted concrete pavement (RCCP) is an environmentally friendly method of construction that utilizes the aggregate interlock effect by means of a hydration reaction and roller compacting, demonstrating a superb structural performance with a relatively small unit water content and unit cement content. However, even if an excellent structural performance was secured through a previous study, the verification research on the environmental load and long-term durability was conducted under unsatisfactory conditions. In order to secure longterm durability, the construction of an appropriate internal air-void structure is required. In this study, a method of improving the long-term durability of RCCP will be suggested by analyzing the internal air-void structure and relevant durability of roller-compacted concrete. METHODS : The method of improving the long-term durability involves measurements of the air content, air voids, and air-spacing factor in RCCP that experiences a change in terms of the kind of air-entraining agent and chemical admixture proportions. This test should be conducted on the basis of test criteria such as ASTM C 457, 672, and KS F 2456. RESULTS : Freezing, thawing, and scaling resistance tests of roller compacted concrete without a chemical admixture showed that it was weak. However, as a result of conducting air entraining (AE) with an AE agent, a large amount of air was distributed with a range of 2~3%, and an air void spacing factor ranging from 200 to $300{\mu}m$ (close to $250{\mu}m$) coming from PCA was secured. Accordingly, the freezing and thawing resistance was improved, with a relative dynamic elastic modulus of more than 80%, and the scaling resistance was improved under the appropriate AE agent content rate. CONCLUSIONS : The long-term durability of RCCP has a direct relationship with the air-void spacing factor, and it can be secured only by ensuring the air void spacing factor through air entraining with the inclusion of an AE agent.

Effect of the muscle nanostructure changes during post-mortem aging on tenderness of different beef breeds

  • Objective: Tenderness is a very complex feature, and the process of its formation is very complicated and not fully understood. Its diversification is one of the most important problems of beef production, as a result beef aging is widely used to improve tenderness as it is believed to provide a homogeneous product to consumers. While few studies have evaluated the muscle structure properties in relation to tenderness from early post-mortem, there little to no information available on how the muscle nanostructure of beef carcasses changes during post-mortem ageing to determine the appropriate aging time for acceptable tenderness. Methods: Muscle nanostructure (myofibril diameter [MYD], myofibril spacing [MYS], muscle fibre diameter [MFD], muscle fibre spacing [MFS], and sarcomere length [SL]), meat tenderness and cooking loss [CL]) were measured on 20 A2 longissimus muscles of Bonsmara, Beefmaster, Hereford, and Simbra at 45mins, 1, 3, and 7 days post-slaughter. Muscle nanostructure was measured using a scanning electron microscope, while tenderness was measured using Warner Bratzler shear force. Results: At 45 minutes post-slaughter, breed affected MYD and MYS only, while at 24hrs it also affected MFD and MFS. On day 3 breed effected MFS and SL, while on day 7 breed effected tenderness only. As the muscles matured, both MYD and MYS decreased while CL increased, and the muscles became tender. There was no uniformity on muscle texture features (surface structure, fibre separation, muscle contraction, and relaxation) throughout the ageing period. Conclusion: Meat tenderness can be directly linked to breed related myofibril structure changes during aging in particular the MYD, spacing between myofibrils and their interaction; while the MFD, spacing between muscle fibres, SL, and CL explain the non-uniformity in beef tenderness.

열대환경하에 있어서 대두재식밀도가 각종형질에 미치는 영향 (The effect of plant spacing on several agronomic traits of a soybean variety under the tropical environment)

  • This experiment was conducted to determine the optimum row width and plant spacing within row under the tropical environment for a leading soybean variety Palmetto and it was carried out at Eakmat Experiment Station in Vietnam. The experiments were arranged in a split plot design with four replications and the test was repeated twice in two years. Variations for seed yield due to the distance between rows were significant at 1 per cent level in 1967 test(dry season growing) and at 5 per cent level in 1968 test. Significant differences for plant height, lodging, maturity, number of branches per plant, and number of pods per plant due to the row width were not found in both tests, while significant differences in difference spacing within row was found in all traits studied. Interaction between width of row and spacing within row for seed yield and plant height were found at five percent level in 1967 test. These results indicate that close planting may increase in seed yield and plant height in both seasons, and decrease in loadging. From these studies, one could be understood that the plant population, particularly in dry season, plays decisive roles on seed yield in soybean culture, and the maximum plant height and minimum value of lodging index were also observed in closest spacing plots. The highest soybean yield in late planting would be expected by a combinations of 30 cm(between rows)${\times}$5cm(between hills) plot, while 40cm ${\times}$ 5cm planting method would be suggested for rainy season growing. Highest seed yield was obtained at closet spacing in both dry and rainy season, and these results led to drilling method in seeding where about 20 seeds per meter of row could be recommended. Besides the seed yield, the close planting may produce some advantages, such as increase plant height and decrease lodging, weeds and erosion of surface soil.

Dynamic response of pile groups in series and parallel configuration

  • Basic problem of pile foundation is three dimensional in nature. Three dimensional finite element formulation is employed for the analysis of pile groups. Pile, pile-cap and soil are modeled using 20 node element, whereas interface between pile or pile cap and soil is modeled using 16 node surface element. A parametric study is carried out to consider the effect of pile spacing, number of piles, arrangement of pile and soil modulus on the response of pile group. Results indicate that the response of pile group is dependent on these parameters.

  • Recently the wind farm is constructed all over the world according to the lack of the resources. The spacing between front and rear wind turbines to construct the wind farm. The wake of front wind turbine has a bad effect on the performance of the rear wind turbine. A basic CFD study on the wake effect of HAWT for construction of wind farm was done by the FLUENT. This study shows the wake of front wind turbine and the results of this study will be used to calculate the spacing between front and rear wind turbines
