Dynamic Modeling and Verification of Litton's Space Inertial Reference Unit(SIRU) (ICCAS 2003)

  • Accurate mathematical models of spacecraft components are an essential of spacecraft attitude control system design, analysis and simulation. Gyro is one of the most important spacecraft components used for attitude propagation and control. Gyro errors may seriously degrade the accuracy of the calculated spacecraft angular rate and of attitude estimates due to inherent drift and bias errors. In order to validate this model, nominal case simulation has been performed and compared for the low range mode and high range mode, respectively. In this paper, a mathematical model of gyro containing the relationships for predicting spacecraft angular rate and disturbances is proposed.

Sliding Mode Attitude Control for Momentum-Biased Spacecraft

  • In this paper, we present a sliding mode control strategy for the re-orientation maneuver of rigid spacecraft containing rotating wheels. The wheels are considered as internal devices, and external inputs are employed for generation of control commands. The formulation is developed for a general case while particular example is applied to pitch bias momentum spacecraft with a single momentum wheel. The resultant control commands are used to take the gyroscopic effects into account which are caused by the rotating wheels. The controller designed demonstrates that the nutational motion of the pitch bias momentum spacecraft is effectively controlled. It is also assumed that the external control torque device is of on-off nature, and pulse width modulation technique is applied to construct proper control torque history.

  • This paper deals with the attitude control of an underactuated spacecraft that has fewer than three actuators. Even though such spacecrafts are known as uncontrollable, restricted missions are possible with controlling two-axis attitude angles. A variable speed control moment gyroscope is considered as an actuator. It is a kind of momentum exchange device and it shows highly nonlinear dynamical properties. Speed commands are generated by kinematic equations represented by Euler angles. A control law, that is designed to make a spacecraft follow the speed commands, is derived by the backstepping method. Angular speeds are estimated from the attitude measurements. Several estimation methods have been compared.

  • CMG(Control Momentum Gyro) is a control device being used for spacecraft attitude control constructing relatively large amount of torque compared to conventional body-fixed reaction wheels. The CMG produces gyroscopic control torque by continuously varying the angular momentum vector direction with respect to the spacecraft body. The VSCMG(Variable Speed Control Momentum Gyro) has favorable advantages with variable speed to lead to better control authority as well as singularity avoidance capability. Attitude dynamics with a VSCMG mounted on a two-axis gimbal system are derived in this study. The dynamic equation may be considered as an extension of the single-axis counterpart. Also, a feedback control law design is addressed in conjunction with the dynamic equations of motion.

Nonlinear Attitude Control for a Rigid Spacecraft by Feedback Linearization

  • Attitude control law design for spacecraft large angle maneuvers is investigated in this paper. The feedback linearization technique is applied to the design of a nonlinear tracking control law. The output function to be tracked is the quaternion attitude parameter. The designed control law turns out to be a combination of attitude and attitude rate tracking commands. The attitude-only output function, therefore, leads to a stable closed-loop system following the given reference trajectory. The principal advantage of the proposed method is that it is relatively easy to produce reference trajectories and associated controller.

  • In this paper, a robust attitude control scheme based on Eigenaxis rotation for the spacecraft is proposed. Eigenaxis rotation transforms the attitude of spacecraft to the shortest path and is represented by quaternion. The control law consists of PD-type control part for the nominal system and the robust control part for compensating inertia uncertainty. For the proposed controller, stability analysis is performed and the performance is shown via computer simulation.

  • For the attitude control of spacecraft, two variable-speed control moment gyros are proposed as main actuators in the article. Since a variable-speed control moment gyro (VSCMG) makes two control torques (gyroscopic torque and reaction torque), two VSCMGs are sufficient for controlling 3-axes attitude. Additionally, there are no singular conditions for two non-parallel VSCMGs. Since gyroscopic torque is usually much greater than reaction torque, the control performances of approximately 3 axes may not be the same. However, several missions can be accomplished by controlling two axes. For such missions, a selective axes control method is proposed. The method selects two axes for a certain task and controls the attitude of the selected axes. For the remaining axis, angular speed is controlled for stabilization. A hardware-in-the-loop simulation has been used to test VSCMG modules and to verify the proposed method. Two VSCMGs can be alternative actuators for small satellites.

  • 최근 다양한 지상 및 우주 임무 수행을 위한 위성 개발이 활발히 진행되고 있음에 따라 위성의 고정밀·고기동성을 고려한 위성 자세제어 또한 요구되는 추세이다. 임무 수행 최적화를 위하여 고기동성의 제어 모멘트 자이로(Control Moment Gyros, CMG)를 위성에 장착하여 반작용 휠(Reaction Wheel, RW)과 같은 기존의 구동기에서 비롯되는 기동 제약을 완화시킬 수 있다. 또한, 구동기 자체의 제약 특성으로 인하여 위성의 각속도 제한이 발생하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 이를 고려한 CSCMG(Constant Speed CMG)장착 위성의 자세제어를 위하여 슬라이딩 모드 기반 제어기를 설계하였고, 리아푸노프 안정성을 확인하였으며 마지막으로 수치 시뮬레이션을 통하여 제어기 성능 분석을 진행하였다.

Attitude Control of Agile Spacecraft Using Momentum Exchange Devices

  • This paper is focused on designing an implementable control law to perform spacecraft various missions using momentum exchange devices such as reaction wheels(RWs) and control moment gyros(CMGs). A compact equation of motion of a spacecraft installed with various momentum exchange devices is derived in this paper. A hybrid control law is proposed for precision attitude control of agile spacecraft. The control law proposed in this paper allocates control torque to the CMGs and the RWs adequately to satisfy the precision attitude control and large angle maneuver simultaneously. The saturation problem of reaction wheels and the singularity problem of control moment gyros are considered. The problems are successfully resolved by using the proposed hybrid closed loop control law. Finally, the proposed hybrid control law is demonstrated by numerical simulations.

  • This paper describes dynamic analysis and attitude control of a large spacecraft with flexible appendages in gravitational field. The effect of attitude control and vibration control of flexible appendages in gravitational field has been clarified. We demonstrate some simulations in gravitational field for some cases, and suggest the effects of gravitational torque, parameters of flexible appendages, attitude control and vibration control of flexible appendages.
