  • In recent years there has been much interest in using light-weight, higher performance arms for both commercial and space-based applications, leading to the research of flexible robot manipulator. This paper is concerned with the trajectory control of a flexible arm using inverse dynamics. Inverse problems are important to robot control and programming, since they allow one to find the appropriate inputs necessary for producing the desired outputs. The input is obtained by the numerical inversion of Laplace transformation in the time domain. And we attempt the trajectory control experiment of a flexible arm using this calculated input. In this article we compare the numerical results with experimental results and can find good agreement. The results make clear that this technique has the good potential for the control of tip trajectory of flexible robot arms.

  • This paper presents results of nonlinear analyses for underground structures including both the soil-structure interaction and nonlinear behavior of concrete material. For this purpose, a hybrid method is employed, in which a dynamic analysis technique for a linear soil-structure interaction system and a general purpose FE program are combined in hybrid and practical manners. A couple of nonlinear analyses are carried out for framed structures in multi-layered half space soil medium. The yielding of concrete structure is considered by a multi-linear stress- strain relationship. The numerical results suggest that ductile design fur the intermediate columns in the underground framed structure is substantially important in aseismic design.

  • To solve the problem of face recognition with complex changes and further improve the efficiency, a new near-infrared face recognition algorithm which fuses E-GV-LBP and FKNN algorithm is proposed. Firstly, it transforms near infrared face image by Gabor wavelet. Then, it extracts LBP coding feature that contains space, scale and direction information. Finally, this paper introduces an improved FKNN algorithm which is based on spatial domain. The proposed approach has brought face recognition more quickly and accurately. The experiment results show that the new algorithm has improved the recognition accuracy and computing time under the near-infrared light and other complex changes. In addition, this method can be used for face recognition under visible light as well.

  • This paper describes a signal recognition method for diagnosing the rotating machinery using wavelet-aided Self-Organizing Feature Map(SOFM). The SOFM specialized from neural network is a new and effective algorithm for interpreting large and complex data sets. It converts high-dimensional data items into simple order relationships with low dimension. Additionally the Learning Vector Quantization(LVQ) is used for reducing the error from SOFM. Multi-resolution and wavelet transform are used to extract salient features from the primary vibration signals. Since it decomposes the raw timebase signal into two respective parts in the time space and frequency domain, it does not lose either information unlike Fourier transform. This paper is focused on the development of advanced signal classifier in order to automatize vibration signal pattern recognition. This method is verified by the experiment and several abnormal vibrations such as unbalance and rubbing are classified with high flexibility and reliability by the proposed methods.

  • This study presents the Big Bang and Big Crunch (BB-BC) optimization algorithm for detection of structure damage in large severity. Local damage is represented by a perturbation in the elemental stiffness parameter of the structural finite element model. A nonlinear objective function is established by minimizing the discrepancies between the measured and calculated acceleration responses (AR) of the structure. The BB-BC algorithm is utilized to solve the objective function, which can localize the damage position and obtain the severity of the damage efficiently. Numerical simulations have been conducted to identify both single and multiple structural damages for beam, plate and European Space Agency Structures. The present approach gives accurate identification results with artificial measurement noise.

  • General algorithm is developed for the prediction of internal flow-induced noise. This algorithm is based on the integral formula derived by using the General Green Function, Lighthills acoustic analogy and Curls extension of Lighthills. Novel approach of this algorithm is that the integral formula is so arranged as to predict frequency-domain acoustic signal at any location in a duct by using unsteady flow data in space and time, which can be provided by the Computational Fluid Dynamics Techniques. This semi-analytic model is applied to the prediction of internal aerodynamic noise from a throttle valve in an automotive engine. The predicted noise levels from the throttle valve are compared with actual measurements. This illustrative computation shows that the current method permits generalized predictions of flow noise generated by bluff bodies and turbulence in flow ducts.

  • This paper presents a new sequence alignment method using the divide approach, which solves the problem by decomposing sequence alignment into several sub-alignments with respect to exact matching subsequences. Exact matching subsequences in the proposed method are bounded on the generalized suffix tree of two sequences, such as protein domain length more than 7 and less than 7. Experiment results show that protein sequence pairs chosen in PFAM database can be aligned using this method. In addition, this method reduces the time about 15% and space of the conventional dynamic programming approach. And the sequences were classified with 94% of accuracy.

  • Photoconductive three-wire folded dipole antennas for terahertz photomixers have been developed. The folded antennas are characterized by a free space time-domain measurement technique, and the measured data are in good agreement with the simulation results. The folded dipole antennas have much higher antenna resistance than other resonant dipole antennas, implying that they can be used for higher output power of THz photomixers.

  • In this paper, we propose a new scheme of motion tracking based on fuzzy inference (FI)and wavelet transform (WT) from image sequences. First, we present a WT to segment a feature extraction of dynamic image . The coefficient matrix for 2-level DWT tent to be clustered around the location of important features in the images, such as edge discontinuities, peaks, and corners. But these features are time varying owing to the environment conditions. Second, to reduce the spatio-temporal error, We develop a fuzzy inference algorithm. Some experiments are peformed to testify the validity and applicability of the proposed system. As a result, proposed method is relatively simple compared with the traditional space domain method. It is also well suited for motion tracking under the conditions of variation of illumination.

  • In this paper, we propose a new load forecasting method for smart air conditioning (A/C) based on the modified thermodynamics of indoor temperature and the unbiased finite memory estimator (UFME). Based on modified first-order thermodynamics, the dynamic behavior of indoor temperature can be described by the time-domain state-space model, and an accurate estimate of indoor temperature can be achieved by the proposed UFME. In addition, a reliable A/C load forecast can be obtained using the proposed method. Our study involves the experimental validation of the proposed A/C load forecasting method and communication construction between DR server and HEMS in a test bed. Through experimental data sets, the effectiveness of the proposed estimation method is validated.
