  • Worldwide, so-called 'over-booking' of Air Carriers is established in practice. Although not invalid, despite their current contracts, passengers can be refused boarding, which can hinder travel planning. The Korean Supreme Court ruled that an airline carrier who refused to board a passenger due to over-booking was liable for compensation under the "Nonperformance of obligation". But what the court should be thinking about is when the benefit(transport) have been disabled. Thereforeit may be considered that the impossibility of benefit (Transport) due to the rejection of boarding caused by 'Over-booking' may be not the 'subsequent impossibility', but not the 'initialimpossibility '. The legal relationship due to initial impossibility is nullity (imposibilium nulla est obligation). When benefits are initial impossibile, our civil code recognizes liability for damages in accordance with the law of "Culpa in Contrahendo", not "nonperformance of obligation". On this reason, the conclusion that the consumer will be compensated for the loss of boarding due to overbooking by the Air Carrier is the same, but there is a need to review the legal basis for the responsibility from the other side. However, it doesn't matter whether it is non-performance or Culpa in Contrahendo. Rather, the recognition of this compensation is likely to cause confusion due to unstable contractual relationships between both parties. Even for practices permitted by Air Carriers, modifications to current customary overbooking that consumers must accept unconditionally are necessary. At the same time, if Air Carriers continue to be held liable for non-performance of obligations due to overselling tickets, it can be fatal to the airline business environment that requires overbooking for stable profit margins. Therefore, it would be an appropriate measure for both Air Carriers and passengers if the Air Carrier were to be given a clearer obligation to explain (to the consumer) and, at the same time, if the explanation obligation is fulfilled, the Air Carrier would no longer be forced to take responsibility for overbooking.

  • The distributions of the ionospheric conductivities, electric potential, ionospheric currents, field-aligned currents, Joule heating rate, and particle energy input rate by auroral electrons along with the characteristics of auroral particle spectrum are examined during moderately disturbed period by using the computer code developed by Kamide et al. (1981) and the ionospheric conductivity model developed by Ahn et al. (1995). Since the ground magnetic disturbance data are obtained from a single meridian chain of magnetometers (Alaska meridian chain) for an extended period of time (March 9 - April 27, 1978), they are expected to present the average picture of the electrodynamics over the entire polar ionosphere. A number of global features noted in this study are as follows: (1) The electric potential distribution is characterized by the so-called two cell convection pattern with the positive potential cell in the morning sector extending into the evening sector. (2) The auroral electrojet system is well developed during this time period with the signatures of DP-1 and DP-2 current systems being clearly discernable. It is also noted that the electric field seems to play a more important role than the ionospheric conductivity the conductivity over the poleward half of the westward electrojet in the morning sector while the conductivity enhancement seems to be more important over its equatorward half. (3) The global field-aligned current distribution pattern is quite comparable with the statistical result obtained by Iijima and Potemra (1976). However, the current density of Region 1 is much higher than that of Region 2 current at pointed out by pervious studies (e.g.; Kamide 1988). (4) The Joule heating occurs over a couple of island-like areas, one along the poleward side of the westward electrojet region in the afternoon sector. (5) The maximum average energy of precipitating electrons is found to be in the morning sector (07∼08 MLT) while the maximum energy flux is registered in the postmidnight sector (02 MLT). Thus auroral brightening and enhancement of ionospheric conductivity during disturbed period seem to be more closely associated with enhancement of particle flux rather than hardening of particle energy.

  • In this paper, we propose and analyze the Adaptive Modulation System with optimal Turbo Coded V-BLAST(Vertical-Bell-lab Layered Space-Time) technique that adopts the extrinsic information from MAP (Maximum A Posteriori) Decoder with Iterative Decoding as a priori probability in two decoding procedures of V-BLAST; the ordering and the slicing. Also, we consider and compare the Adaptive Modulation System using conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique that is simply combined V-BLAST with Turbo Coding scheme and the Adaptive Modulation System using conventional Turbo Coded V-BLAST technique that is decoded by the ML (Maximum Likelihood) decoding algorithm. We observe a throughput performance and a complexity. As a result of a performance comparison of each system, it has been proved that the complexity of the proposed decoding algorithm is lower than that of the ML decoding algorithm but is higher than that of the conventional V-BLAST decoding algorithm. however, we can see that the proposed system achieves a better throughput performance than the conventional system in the whole SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) range. And the result shows that the proposed system achieves a throughput performance close to the ML decoded system. Specifically, a simulation shows that the maximum throughput improvement in each MIMO scheme is respectively about 350 kbps, 460 kbps, and 740 kbps compared to the conventional system. It is suggested that the effect of the proposed decoding algorithm accordingly gets higher as the number of system antenna increases.

  • Lipreading is one of the important parts of speech recognition, and several studies have been conducted to improve the performance of lipreading in lipreading systems for speech recognition. Recent studies have used method to modify the model architecture of lipreading system to improve recognition performance. Unlike previous research that improve recognition performance by modifying model architecture, we aim to improve recognition performance without any change in model architecture. In order to improve the recognition performance without modifying the model architecture, we refer to the cues used in human lipreading and set other regions such as chin and cheeks as regions of interest along with the lip region, which is the existing region of interest of lipreading systems, and compare the recognition rate of each region of interest to propose the highest performing region of interest In addition, assuming that the difference in normalization results caused by the difference in interpolation method during the process of normalizing the size of the region of interest affects the recognition performance, we interpolate the same region of interest using nearest neighbor interpolation, bilinear interpolation, and bicubic interpolation, and compare the recognition rate of each interpolation method to propose the best performing interpolation method. Each region of interest was detected by training an object detection neural network, and dynamic time warping templates were generated by normalizing each region of interest, extracting and combining features, and mapping the dimensionality reduction of the combined features into a low-dimensional space. The recognition rate was evaluated by comparing the distance between the generated dynamic time warping templates and the data mapped to the low-dimensional space. In the comparison of regions of interest, the result of the region of interest containing only the lip region showed an average recognition rate of 97.36%, which is 3.44% higher than the average recognition rate of 93.92% in the previous study, and in the comparison of interpolation methods, the bilinear interpolation method performed 97.36%, which is 14.65% higher than the nearest neighbor interpolation method and 5.55% higher than the bicubic interpolation method. • Java is a promising runtime environment for embedded systems because it has many advantages such as platform independence, high security and support for multi-threading. One of the most famous Java run-time environments, Sun's ($PersonalJave^{TM}$) is based on Truffle architecture, which enables programmers to design various GUIs easily. For this reason, it has been ported to various embedded systems such as set-top boxes and personal digital assistants(PDA's). Basically, Truffle uses heavy-weight window managers such as Microsoft vVin32 API and X-Window. However, those window managers are not adequate for embedded systems because they require a large amount of memory and disk space. To come up with the requirements of embedded systems, we adopt Microwindows as the platform graphic system for Personal] ava A WT onto Embedded Linux. Although Microwindows is a light-weight window manager, it provides as powerful API as traditional window managers. Because Microwindows does not require any support from other graphics systems, it can be easily ported to various platforms. In addition, it is an open source code software. Therefore, we can easily modify and extend it as needed. In this paper, we implement Personal]ava A WT using Microwindows on embedded Linux and prove the efficiency of our approach.

  • The fast evacuation from fire floors to evacuation floors in high-rise building fires can minimize the human damage. In this study, an evacuation instrument, which are applicable to the high-rise buildings of adaptable escape mechanisms by the current NFSC 301 (national fire safety code 301), were selected to analyze the applicability in the high-rise buildings over 11th floor through the site adaptability test. The results of the site test were as follows. The elevator type evacuation instrument of new concept developed as a new technology by compensating the defect of evacuation instrument limiting in the high-rise buildings over 11th floor had completed the stability test and the performance certification test in fire stations, which there were no problems in the introduction of the elevator type evacuation instrument as an escape mechanism in the high-rise buildings. The elevator type evacuation instrument using escapers' weight without using electric power was an escape mechanism that many people could evacuate in a short period of time when a fire broke out in the high-rise buildings. In particular, The elevator type evacuation instrument operated by nonpower had the adaptability as a customized escape mechanism considering user characteristics in the buildings for the disabled or patients with an advanced disease.

  • The prediction of near field behavior around an underground high-level radioactive waste repository is important for the repository design as well as the safety assessment. In this study, a sensitivity analysis for seven parameters consisted of design parameters and material properties was carried out using a three-dimensional finite difference code. From the sensitivity analysis, it was found that the effects of borehole spacing, tunnel spacing, cooling time and rock thermal conductivity were more significant than the other parameters. For getting a statistical distribution of buffer and rock temperatures around the repository, an artificial neural network, backpropagation, was applied. The reliability of the trained neural network was tested with the cases with randomly chosen input parameters. When the parameter variation is within ${\pm}10%$, the prediction from the network was found to be reliable with about a 1% error. It was possible to calculate the temperature distribution for many cases quickly with the trained neural network. The buffer and rock temperatures showed a normal distribution with means of $98^{\circ}C$ and $83.9^{\circ}C$ standard deviations of $3.82^{\circ}C$ and $3.67^{\circ}C$, respectively. Using the neural network, it was also possible to estimate the required change in design parameters for reducing the buffer and rock temperatures for $1^{\circ}C$.

  • Kernel rootkit is recognized as one of the most severe and widespread threats to corrupt the integrity of an operating system. Without an external monitor as a root of trust, it is not easy to detect kernel rootkits which can intercept and modify communications at the interfaces between operating system components. To provide such a monitor isolated from an operating system that can be compromised, most existing solutions are based on external hardware. Unlike those solutions, we develop a kernel introspection system based on the ARM TrustZone technology without incurring extra hardware cost, which can provide a secure memory space in isolation from the rest of the system. We particularly use a secure timer to implement an autonomous switch between secure and non-secure modes. To ensure integrity of reference, this system measured reference from vmlinux which is a kernel original image. In addition, the flexibility of monitoring block size can be configured for efficient kernel introspection system. The experimental results show that a secure kernel introspection system is provided without incurring any significant performance penalty (maximum 6% decrease in execution time compared with the normal operating system).

  • Numerical simulations of CIEMAT column test in Spain are performed to investigate the coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) behavior of MX80 bentonite pellets using TOUGH2-FLAC3D. The heater power and injection pressure of water in the numerical simulations are identical to those in the laboratory test. To investigate the applicability of the thermo-hydraulic (TH) model used in TOUGH2 code to prediction of the coupled TH behavior, the simulation results are compared with the observations of temperature and relative humidity with time. The tendencies of the coupled behavior observed in the test are well represented by the numerical models and the simulator in terms of temperature and relative humidity evolutions. Moreover, the performance of the models for the reproduction and prediction of the coupled TH behavior is globally satisfactory compared with the observations. However, the calculated stress change is relatively small and slow due to the limitations of the simple elastic and swelling pressure model used in numerical simulations. It seems that the two models are insufficient to realistically reproduce the complex coupled THM behavior in the bentonite pellets.

  • An effect of coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical and chemical (THMC) behavior is an essential part of the performance and safety assessment of geological disposal systems for high-level radioactive waste and spent nuclear fuel. Furthermore, numerical models and modeling techniques are necessary to analyze and predict the coupled THMC behavior in the disposal systems. However, phenomena associated with the coupled THMC behavior are nonlinear, and the constitutive relationships between them are not well known. Therefore, it is challenging to develop numerical models and modeling techniques to analyze and predict the coupled THMC behavior in the geological disposal systems. It is also difficult to verify and validate the development of the models and techniques because it requires expensive laboratory tests and in-situ experiments that need to be performed for a long time. DECOVALEX was initiated in 1992 to efficiently develop numerical models and modeling techniques and validate the developed models and techniques against the lab and in-situ experiments. In Korea, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute has participated in DECOVALEX-2011, DECOVALEX-2015, and DECOVALEX-2019 since 2008. In this study, all tasks in the three DECOVALEX projects were introduced to the researcher in the field of rock mechanics and geotechnical engineering in Korea.
