The Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) and the Department of Astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin (UT) are developing a near infrared wide-band high resolution spectrograph, IGRINS (Immersion Grating Infrared Spectrograph). The white-pupil design of the instrument optics uses 7 cryogenic mirrors including 3 aspherical off-axis collimators and 4 flat fold mirrors. Two of the 3 collimators are H- and K-band pupil transfer mirrors and they are designed as compensators for the system alignment in each channel. Therefore, their mount design will be one of the most sensitive parts in the IGRINS optomechanical system. The design work will include the computer-aided 3D modeling and finite element analysis (FEA) to optimize the structural stability of the mount models. The mount body will also include a tip-tilt and translation adjustment mechanism to be used as the alignment compensators.

A near infrared wide-band high resolution spectrograph, immersion grating infrared spectrometer (IGRINS) has been jointly developed by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute and the University of Texas at Austin. The compact white-pupil design of the instrument optics includes five cryogenic flat mirrors including a slit mirror, an input fold mirror, a dichroic mirror, and H&K camera fold mirrors. In this study, we introduce the optomechanical mount designs of the five cryogenic mirrors. In order to meet the structural stability and thermal requirements of the mount models, we conducted the design work with the aid of 3-dimensional computer modeling and the finite element analysis (FEA) method. We also present the actual fabricated parts and assemblies of the mounts and mirrors as well as their CAD models.
Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI) is developing a coronagraph in collaboration with National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) which will be installed on the International Space Station (ISS). The coronagraph can measure speed and temperature by using four filters approximately 400 nm and polarization filter in three different angles, differently with older coronagraphs. For the successful mission, it has development and experiment progress in three phases; total solar eclipse experiment in 2017, balloon experiment in 2019, and the ISS installation in 2021. As a first experiment, we developed a coronagraph without an occulter named with Diagnostic Coronagraph Experiment (DICE) for experiment for filter system and imaging sensor. We designed optics with a field of view from 2.5 to 15 solar radii. It has four filters approximately 400 nm and polarizer to measure speed and velocity of the solar corona. For the selection of filter or polarization angle, it has two mechanism parts; filter wheel assembly and a polarizer wheel assembly. Especially we used Core Flight System (CFS) platform which was developed by NASA, when we develop the coronagraph operation software. It provides us stability, reusability, and compatibility.
The purpose of this study is to suggest the design guidelines of exhibition space for conservation of collection in a museum. With the purpose of this study, examined the concept and a condition of conservation which is focused on deterioration in a exhibition space, investigated the actual condition of total 42 facilities and analyzed the specific instance which is excellent by factor of environment plan. Hereupon, the results of this study are as follows. First, exhibition space should be equipped with sufficient 'Filtering Space' before the outdoor and located central territory in a museum facility. Second, exhibition space should be partition off an area into the quality of collection, and then controlled by each of them. Third, in consideration of the annual air fluctuation of our country, the database which is adaptable for setting up the standard of temperature and RH must be prepared. Fourth, it is necessary to establish a 'Reference Exhibition Room' which is formed cellular type and a 'Garnering Exhibition Center'. Fifth, for the prevention of deterioration which is generated in exhibition space, the showcase must be high air-tight. Sixth, it is necessary to reduce a inside space of high air-tight showcase. Seventh, art-sorb is suitable for control the organic matter of collection and a except of fiber optics is not suitable for lighting of showcase. Eighth, wall-type showcase should be have air-chamber which is formed like museum storage and run over 8 hours a day.
We have carried out the high-resolution spectroscopic observations of Titan using BOES (Bohyunsan Echelle Spectrometer) to establish a standard spectral atlas of Titan. The observations were made on November 3, 4, 16 and 17, 2003 using a 300 11m fiber optics with a spectral resolving power of 30,000. The spectral atlas will be served as a reference for the future spectroscopic researches of Titan and other planetary objects. We were able to confirm $CH_4$ absorption lines of the Kuiper bands, and find unidentified lines near $7500{\AA}$.
We present measurement results of the fabricated ultra wideband corrugated horn for the planned ASTE band7+8 receiver. Return loss and vector beam pattern measurements were carried out over 275-500 GHz frequency range. Hardware set-ups for these measurements are described as well as beam measurement data are compared with such design criteria as beam width, phase curvature and cross-polarization. We discuss the impact of these beam measurement results to the aperture efficiency of the proposed 2-mirror receiver optics for the ASTE telescope.
Digital images of cultural relics captured using line scan cameras present limitations due to uneven intensity and low contrast. To address this issue, this report proposes a colour linear array image enhancement method that can maintain a constant colour. First, the colour linear array image is converted from the red-green-blue (RGB) colour space into the hue-saturation-intensity colour space, and the three components of hue, saturation, and intensity are separated. Subsequently, the hue and saturation components are held constant while the intensity component is processed using the established intensity compensation model to eliminate the uneven intensity of the image. On this basis, the contrast of the intensity component is enhanced using an improved local contrast enhancement method. Finally, the processed image is converted into the RGB colour space. The experimental results indicate that the proposed method can significantly improve the visual effect of colour linear array images. Moreover, the objective quality evaluation parameters are improved compared to those determined using existing methods.
Digital all-optical parallel computing is an important research direction and spans conventional devices and convergent nano-optics deployments. Optical bus-based interconnects provide interesting aspects such as relative information communication speed-up or slow-down between optical signals. This aspect is harnessed in the newly proposed All-Optical Linear Array with a Reconfigurable Pipelined Bus System (OLARPBS) model. However, the physical realization of such communication interconnects needs to be considered. This paper considers spatial layouts of processing elements along with the optical bus light paths that are necessary to realize the corresponding interconnection requirements. A metric in terms of the degree of required physical constraint is developed to characterize the variety of possible solutions. Simple algorithms that determine spatial layouts are given. It is shown that certain communication interconnection structures have associated intrinsic topologies.
We report on the design of the secondary and the tertiary mirrors used in lightweight assemblies made entirely of silicon carbide (SiC). The essential design points are weight reduction within the acceptable deformation of the mirror surface by gravity release, temperature change, and vibration during or after space launch. To find a design that achieves the target requirements, we established finite element models for various candidate designs and subjected each one to wave front error analyses along gravity directions and in operation temperatures. We also calculated the natural frequencies of the candidate assemblies. Our study suggested that a triangular cell with bipod flexure support can satisfy the target weight within the requirements.
