  • The relation between the vibration induced from machinery and the radiated sound is complicated. Acoustic intensity method is widely used to obtain the accuracy of noise identification. In this study, as groundwork, the complex acoustic intensity method is performed to identify noise source and transmission path on different free space point source fields. From the numerical analysis for these simple fields, it is possible to predict the sound field characteristics which noise sources are related with each other, and certificate the validity of complex acoustic intensity. As an industrial application, the complex acoustic intensity method is applied a diesel engine to identify sound radiation characteristics in the near field.

  • The performance of a sound source localization system degrades severely in reverberant and noisy environments. In addition, restriction on the distance between microphones, which is required by portable devices, also lower the system performance. This paper compares the sound source localization algorithms based on time delay of arrival, which are robust to reverberation and noises considering microphone sensor distance. As well, post filter which outputs maximum count time delay is adopted to increase the accuracy.

  • Sound propagation in shallow water changes from spherical spreading to cylindrical spreading, depending on boundary conditions, and this point is defined as a transition point of the sound propagation condition. Theoretically, the transition point can be estimated using the transmission loss as a function of source-receiver range. In this paper, the transmission loss curve in a Pekeris waveguide is predicted using a parabolic-equation based acoustic propagation model and using this transmission loss curve, the range from the source of the transition point is estimated, which is compared to the critical distance calculated using the sound speed ratio of water to sediment. In addition, the effects of the sound speed profile and source depth change on the transition point are investigated. Finally, the transition point is estimated using the transmission loss data measured during the period of the SAVEX15 (Shallow Water Acoustic Variability EXperiment 2015) conducted 65 km southwest of Jeju Island in May 2015, and it is compared to the ocean environmental parameters to understand the properties of sound propagation in the experimental area.

  • Studies on estimating the underwater sound source localization using acoustic signal characteristics have mainly been conducted in shallow waters. Recently, technologies for stably and efficiently estimating the underwater sound sources localization using the underwater sound propagation characteristics of the Reliable Acoustic Path(RAP) in deep water areas are being studied. Underwater surveillance technology in deep sea areas is known to have the advantage of having low detection performance variability due to time-varying underwater environments and having a small shadow zone, making it easy to stably detect underwater sound sources and estimate location even from relatively long distance. In this study, we analyzed the sound propagation characteristics based on the actual marine environment in the deep sea of the Korean Peninsula and conducted a study to analyze the estimation performance of sound source depth using the broadband interference pattern of direct wave and sea surface reflected waves radiating from underwater sound sources.

  • From 1998, the number of household who live in apartment house outnumber that of household live in detached dwelling by 0.3% in Korea. As walls and floors are shared with neighbourhood in apartment houses, percent complaints to the impact noise from the upper floor was so high that it represents an important factor in apartment indoor noise. And the rate is closely correlate with children's running, playing and jumping. In this study, comparisons of standard impact source, such as Tapping Machine and Bang Machine, with real life impact sources were made in order to investigate acoustical characteristics between them. Also reproducibility tests for impact sound sources were carried out.

  • A purpose of developing a sound source tracking system in this paper is to reduce the noise efficiently from the received signal by microphone array and measure the signal's time delay between the microphones. I have applied the wavelet analysis algorithm to the system and calculated the sound source's relative position For the performance evaluation, I have compared with the results of utilizing the digital filtering methods based on the FIR LPF using Kaiser window function and the inverse Chebyshev IIR LPF. As a result, I have confirmed the fact that 'time-scale' filter using inverse discrete wavelet transform was suitable for this system.

  • This paper suggests an algorithm that can estimate the direction of the sound source with three microphones arranged on a circle. The algorithm is robust to microphones' gains because it uses only the time differences between microphones. To make this possible, a cost function which normalizes the microphone's gains is utilized and a procedure to detect the rough position of the sound source is also proposed. Through our experiments, we obtained significant performance improvement compared with the energy-based localizer.

  • To perceive the direction and the distance of a sound, we always use a couple of information. Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) contains the information that sound arrives from a sound source to the ears of the listener, like differences of level, phase and frequency spectrum. For a reproduction system using 2 channels, we apply HRTF to many algorithms which make 3d sound. But it causes a problem to localize a sound source around a certain places which is called the cone-of-confusion. In this paper, we proposed the new algorithm to reduce the confusion of sound image localization. The difference of frequency spectrum and psychoacoustics theory are used to boost the spectral cue among each directions. To confirm the performance of the algorithm, informal listening tests are carried out. As a result, we can make the improved 3d sound in 2 channel system based on a headphone. Also sound quality of improved 3d sound is much better than conventional methods.

  • This study was carried out for the analysis and comparison about the noise diminution effects by the height, width and density of Euonymus japonica wall, the distance of sound source, the distance of sound receiver, the height of sound source, and the height of sound receiver. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. After the establishment of tree wall, the volume of noise diminution measured 6.8dB and the effects of noise diminution measured heigher than before by 10.6% and t-value was significant at the 1% level 2. In simple correlation between the effects of noise diminution and variables, the density of tree wall was found as the most significant factor, and the last were found in the order of the distance of sound receiver, the width of tree wall, and the distance of sound source. 3. In partial correlation coefficients the effects of noise diminution and variables, the density of tree wall (r=-0.959) was found as the most significant factor, and the last were found in order of the distance of sound receiver (r=-0.906) and the width of tree wall (r=-0.753). 4. The estimated equation to measure the effects of noise diminution according to variables (the height of tree wall, the width of tree wall, the density of tree wall, the distance of sound source, the distance of sound receiver, the height of sound source, and the height of sound receiver) was $Y=69.520-1.672X_1-1.656X_2-0.066X_3-0.248X_4-3.134X_5-0.222X_6-0.343X_7$, and the coefficient of determination of this estimated equation was highly found as 0.950. 5. In semi-partial correlation coefficient the effects of noise diminution were found in the order of the density of tree wall, the distance of sound receiver, the width of tree wall, and the height of tree wall from the highest to the lowest. Therefore, it was considered that the density of tree wall, the distance of sound receiver, the width of tree wall and the distance of sound source should be controlled effectively to increase the effects of noise diminution by Euonymus japonica wall.

  • This study aims to induce acoustic environmental characteristics which could be used for soundscape design by carrying out factor analysis on sound source image and cognition analysis on subjects' responses on selective questions due to class differences. The results of this study are as follows ; Satisfaction rate differences on exterior acoustic environment due to sensitivity and residence year were revealed. After factor analysis of living sound sources' image, it is known that natural sound, traditional sound, socials traffic sound, rural sound, religious sound and the others are main factors. Social traffic sound is the most one that should be eliminated and traditional sound is selected as a most Korean-like sound. Natural sound is evaluated as the most one that should be preserved and the most retrospectively one.
