Fiber Dyeing and Finishing facility has been recognized as an important pollution source due to its consumption of large volumes of water and chemicals. Unit mass discharge for the conventional water quality parameters such as flowrate, SS, $BOD_5,\;COD_{Mn},\;COD_{Cr}$, TN, TP were estimated. To represent the respective industries, three companies were carefully selected based on its manufacturing goods, flowrate and location at various unit operations and processes. More than 90% of decrease in unit mass estimation between influent and effluent of BOD was observed. But the values themselves were similar to those of Fiber Manufacturing facility due to the high loadings of organic matter. Biodegradability of influent was almost three times higher than that of effluent. Unit mass discharge estimations of unit process (estimated in this study) based on space, products and raw material were similar to those of composite process (estimated by National Institute of Environmental Research), while big difference was observed in the other factors. Unit mass discharge factors calculated in this study can be used as the reference for the estimation of water pollution loading costs in Nakdong river basin. For the effective water pollution control and management, it is essential to characterize the various types of water quality parameters from the effluents of individual industrial wastewater treatment plants.
The skin on the dorsum of the foot is a source of the reliable thin and sensory cutaneous free tissue transplantation with or without tendon, bone and joint. A composite flap with attached vascularized tendon grafts for the combined loss of skin and tendon on the dorsum of the hand and foot offers an immediate one stage solution to this problem. The flap provides a very durable innervated tissue cover for the heel of the foot and the dorsum of the hand and an osteocutaneous transfer combined with the second metatarsal. The major dorsalis pedis artery is constant in size, but the first dorsal metatarsal artery is variable in size and location. The dorsal surface of the foot receives sensory innervation through the superficial peroneal nerve and the first web through the deep peroneal nerve. Authors had performed 5 dorsalis pedis free flap transplantation in the foot and hand at Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Chonbuk National University Hospital from August 1993 through August 1997 and followed up for the period of between 19 and 67 months until March 1999. The results were as follows 1. 5 cases dorsalis pedis free flap transfer to the foot(4 cases) and the hand(1 case) were performed and the recipient was foot dorsum and heel 2 cases each and hand dorsum 1 case. 2 All of 5 cases(100%) were survived from free flap transfer and recipient artery was dorsalis pedis artery(2 cases), anterior tibial artery(1 case), posterior tibial artery(1 case) and ulnar artery(1 case) and recipient veins were 2 in number except in the hand. 3. Long term follow up of the exterior and maceration was good and sensory recovery was poor 4. Donor site was covered with full thickness skin graft obtained from one or both inguinal areas at postoperative 3rd week and skin graft was taken good and no morbidity was showed.
This study was conducted to develop a model of a fee schedule for nursing services.'Regardless of the demand for skilled and professional nursing service today, the Korean health insurance system does not furnish a chapter for the nursing service fee schedule. A nation-wide survey of hospital nursing service fee schedules was to provide practical and realistic data about how the variety of nursing services are being charged. From September 1990 to April 1991, data from the fee schedule used by twenty hospitals located in eight large cities which are designated large medical regions in the Korea Health Care and Patient Referral System were collected. Nursing services and the fees charged for them were analyzed. The nursing services were subjected to a secondary analysis with referrence to reports on “nursing services to be charged in Korea”. The total number of nursing services recommended by the literatures was 177 : finally 141 types of nursing services were selected by investigator as chargable nursing services. In addition, data on managerial characteristics of the hospitals were collected to discover influential variables for a nursing fee schedule model. Under the assumption that all the managerial characteristics of the hospitals influenced the fee schedule, the following model was tested : Fee of nursing services (C) = f(A₁, A₂, A₃, A₄, A/sub 5/, A/sub 6/, A/sub 7/, A/sub 8/,) When, A₁ = number of nurses A₂ = the first salary of a nurse educated in a four year A₃ = scale of nursing management division A₄ = location of the hospital A/sub 5/ = the type of hospital management (profit / non-profit) A/sub 6/ = number of hospital beds A/sub 7/ = years of hospital operation A/sub 8/ = number and kinds of clinical divisions The results showed that the model should be built as follows : C = f (A₁, A/sub 4/, A/sub 5/) Each nursing service was applied to the fee schedule with consideration for the professional level and time-taken to provide the services. Detailed fee schedules were presented in the related tables. Of the 141 kinds of nursing services, 24.8% were chargeble to the Korea Health Insurance, 32.6% of the nursing services were being paid directly by the patienty. The rest of nursing services (42.6%) were not being charged to any source. It was recommened that the Korea Health Insurance Reimbursement system should add a classification system for nursing services that can be used in the national health care program. Further study is needed about how to include 32.6% of the nursing services now being paid for directly by the patients in the health insurance system.
The Sonoran Desert, which is located in North America, has been frequently used for vicarious calibration of many optical sensors in satellites. Although the desert area has good conditions for vicarious calibration (e.g. high reflectance, little vegetation, large area, low precipitation), its adjacency to the sea and large variability in atmospheric water vapor are the disadvantages for vicarious calibration. For vicarious calibration using top-of-atmospheric (TOA) reflectance, the atmospheric variability brings about degraded precision in vicarious calibration results. In this paper, the location with the smallest radiometric variability in TOA reflectance is sought by using 12-year Landsat 5 data, and corrected the TOA reflectance for bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) which is another major source of variability in TOA reflectance. Experiments show that the mid-western part of the Sonoran Desert has the smallest variability collectively for visible and near-infrared bands, and the variability from the sunarget-sensor geometry can be reduced by the BRDF correction for the visible bands, but not sufficiently for the infrared bands.

To understand and investigate chemical characteristics of thermal environment in the southwestern Paciflc, we have measured hydrological and chemical parameters such as temperature, salinity, transparency, pH, nutrients and hydrogen sulfide (H$_2$S). Samples were collected with CTD-casting at 12 station, in Manus Basin including PACMANUS, DESMOS and Susu Knolls, Hydrothermal systems consist of circulation zones where seawater interacts with rock, thereby changing chemical and physical characteristics of both the seawater and the rock. The altered seawater, called hydrothermal fluid, is injected back into the ocean from the hydrothermal vent fields and forms hydrothermal plumes. Consequently, we detected hydrothermal plume with transparency and sulfide anomalies at PACMANUS and Susu Knolls. Sulfide, as geochemical tracer of hydrothermal plume, ranged 0-3.31 ${\mu}$M, and averaged 0.63 ${\mu}$M in the study area. The height, flux and activity of the plume are affected by circulations in the deep water and the spread of plume follows along the isopycnal surface. Therefore the observed H$_2$S anomaly can provide important clue for the source location and it appears that the targestsource in the PACMANUS is aligned in the north-south direction.
A pressure sensor on the tip of a catheter which is utilized to measure the in-vivo pressure in a human body was fabricated and the characteristic of the pressure sensor as measured. To fit into a catheter with 1 mm caliber, samples of $150\;{\mu}m$(thickness) ${\times}$ (600, 700, 800, 900, 1000) ${\mu}m$(width) ${\times}2\;mm$(length) was fabricated. The thicker face with $450\;{\mu}m$ thickness of SDB wafer was made thin to $134\;{\mu}m$ thickness using KOH etchant and it made possible to fabricate sensor cell with the width shorter than 1 mm. Different to the whitstone bridge sensor, we formed one piezoresistor and one reference resistor in sensor. Therefore there are possibilities of reduction of the sensitivity, then by using the simulation tool ANSYS 5.5.1, the location and the type of the piezoresistor was optimized. Another piezoresistor type of sensor which contain one longitudinal and one transverse piezoresistor was fabricated at the same time, but the sensitivity was not improved very much. To get the output versus the pressure, a constant current source and a implementation amplifier was used. As a result, the maximum sensitivity of the sensor with one piezoresistor was $1.6\;{\mu}V/V/mmHg$.

This study summarizes test methods and evaluation methods for examining the thermal characteristics of Jeju-type ground heat exchangers (GHXs) installed on Jeju Island, and analyzes the ground temperature and thermal characteristics of ground heat exchangers installed in various regions by using thermal response tests (TRT). Jeju Island is composed of volcanic rock layers, and the groundwater flow is well developed. A Jeju-type GHX can be installed up to 30 m from groundwater level after drilling a borehole. The ground heat exchanger has a structure in which several pipes are inserted into the borehole. In order to examine the characteristics of the Jeju-type GHX, tests were conducted on ground heat exchangers installed in four places on Jeju Island (Pyoseon, Jeju, Namwon, and Hallym). As a result of the analysis of the Jeju-type ground heat exchanger, the ground circulating water temperature stabilized according to the heat injection, depending on the installed location, and was formed within one to three hours. The ground heat exchanger capacity in Hallym was highest at 73.4 kW (cooling) and 82.8 kW (heating), and the Jeju-type calculation was lowest at 34.1 kW (cooling) and 23.3 kW (heating).

Atmospheric transport pathway of an air mass is an important constraint controlling the chemical properties of the air mass observed at a designated location. Such information could be utilized for understanding observed temporal variabilities in atmospheric concentrations of long-lived chemical compounds, of which sinks and/or sources are related particularly with natural and/or anthropogenic processes in the surface, and as well as for performing inversions to constrain the fluxes of such compounds. The Lagrangian particle dispersion model FLEXPART provides a useful tool for estimating detailed particle dispersion during atmospheric transport, a significant improvement over traditional "single-line" trajectory models that have been widely used. However, those without a modeling background seeking to create simple back-trajectory maps may find it challenging to optimize FLEXPART for their needs. In this study, we explain how to set up, operate, and optimize FLEXPART for back-trajectory analysis, and also provide automatization programs based on the open-source R language. Discussions include setting up an "AVAILABLE" file (directory of input meteorological fields stored on the computer), creating C-shell scripts for initiating FLEXPART runs and storing the output in directories designated by date, as wells as processing the FLEXPART output to create figures for a back-trajectory "footprint" (potential emission sensitivity within the boundary layer). Step by step instructions are explained for an example case of calculating back trajectories derived for Anmyeon-do, Korea for January 2011. One application is also demonstrated in interpreting observed variabilities in atmospheric $CO_2$ concentration at Anmyeon-do during this period. Back-trajectory modeling information introduced in this study should facilitate the creation and automation of most common back-trajectory calculation needs in atmospheric research.

Benefit transfer is a method, which obtains an estimate for the economic valuation of non-marketed commodities at a given site through the analysis of studies that have been previously carried out to value similar commodities at a different location. The objective of this study was to estimate benefit transfer values for the construction of the integrated sewerage system in the catchment area of dams in Korea. For pooled data analysis, five models were suggested in this study. Among five models, model 2 showed only 6 to 7% errors when the willingness-to-pay(WTP) predicted in the policy-site, Dam Soyang was compared with that estimated using contingent valuation method(CVM) in the study-sites, Dams Namgang, Hapcheon, and Daecheong. However, the WTP estimate predicted by model 1 showed the absolute errors of 42 to 47% when it was compared with WTP estimated using CVM in Dams Andong and Imha. It seemed that residents of Dams Andong and Imha have feeling of being victimized since two dams were constructed very adjacently, the upstream area was designated as drinking water source protection zone, and thereafter their developmental economical actions have been significantly restricted.

This study is expected to provide background data for establishing mitigation measures for malodor and for comparing complex odor criteria. The impact of malodor at the afflicted locations was analyzed using Industrial Source Complex Short Term 3 (ISCST3) model, which was recommended by the EPA. The Odor Emission Rates (ODR) for piglets and hogs were predicted based on the average, minimum, and maximum emission rates as classification. The forecasting result of the complex odor modelling of pigsty showed that tolerance limit was exceeded at an adjacent administration building, but tolerance limit was not surpassed at an afflicted location which was within 185m from the pigsty. The ISCST3 modelling of the satisfactory ODR for tolerance limit was accomplished at the administration building. From the prediction of this modelling, maximum emission rates based on 1hr at administration building were 10.59~52.93, 19.05~31.76, and 10.59 $OU/m^3/s/m^2$ at emission rates of 50%, 30%, and 10%. This emission rate was slightly higher than the tolerance limit of 10.00 $OU/m^3/s/m^2$. However, it was inferred that the tolerance limit could be satisfied if the emission rate of 10% was controlled.
