Pressure Dependence of Acoustic Properties of Liquid Ethanol by using High-pressure Brillouin Spectroscopy

  • Brillouin spectroscopy has been widely used for the investigation of acoustic properties of condensed matters in the hypersonic region. A high-pressure Brillouin spectrometer was set up by combining a diamond anvil cell and a tandem multi-pass Fabry-Perot interferometer. It was successfully applied to liquid ethanol, and the pressure dependence of the sound velocity, the refractive index and other acoustic properties were derived based on the measurements. The detailed optical setup and experimental procedure are described.

  • A new acoustic field visualization technique is introduced in this study. Small particles of which density is small enough to follow up the air used for the noise field visualization. In order to quantify the noise, PIV(Particle Imaging Velocimetry) has been constructed. When the driving frequency is in the vicinity of the resonance frequency of the simplified 2-dimensional muffler system, an acoustic streaming is shown and of which velocity distribution is obtained through PIV technique. It is experimentally proved that the present technique is able to visualize and quantify the acoustic fields.

  • The acoustic characteristics of a direct radiator type loudspeaker has been studied in this paper. The vibration displacement of the speaker cone paper obtained by the finite element analysis has been converted into the vibration velocity and used as a boundary condition for the acoustic analysis. The frequency characteristics and the sound pressure distribution of the loudspeaker resulted from the radiation of the cone vibration have been calculated by the boundary element analysis. The numerical results have been verified by experiments carried out in an anechoic chamber. The variations of the acoustic characteristics due to the changes of some design parameters have been examined using the numerical model.

시변주파수 분석을 이용한 저소음 타이어 설계 (The Reduction of Tire Pattern Noise Using Time-frequency Transform)

  • The tire is considered as one of the important noise sources having an influence on vehicle's performance. The Pattern noise of a tire is the transmission sound of airborne noise. On smooth asphalt road, Pattern noise is amplified with the velocity. In recent, the study on the reduction of Pattern noise is energetically processed. Pattern noise is strongly related with pitch sequence. To reduce the pattern noise, tire's designer has to randomize the sequence of pitch. The FFT is a traditional method to evaluate the level of the randomization of the pitch sequence, but gives no information on time-varying, instantaneous frequency. In the study, we found that Time-Frequency transform is a useful method to non-stationary signal such as tire noise.

  • The characteristics of the unstable impinging circular jet were investigated based on the frequency characteristics and the sound field of the impinging-tones. Two symmetric modes Si and S2, associated with low frequency and high frequency respectively, and one helical mode H have been observed by measuring frequency and phase-distribution around the jet. Radiation characteristics of impinging-tone were studied by measuring axial directivity. It was founded that the radiation patterns of symmetric and helical mode are different and it is toward the plate as the impinging distance increased. By estimating the convection velocity of the unstable jet, it was founded that the convection speed decreases with the frequency and its decreasing pattern varies with unstable modes S1, S2 and H, respectively.

Numerical modeling and simulation technique in time-domain for multibeam echo sounder

  • A Multibeam Echo Sounder (MBES) is commonly used for rapid seafloor mapping. We herein present a time-domain integrated system simulation technique for MBES development. The Modeling and Simulation (M&S) modules consist of four parts: sensor array signal transmission, propagation and backscattering modeling in the ocean environment, beamforming of the received signals, and image processing. Also, the simulation employs a ray-theory-based algorithm to correct the reconstructed bathymetry, which has errors due to the refraction caused by the vertical sound velocity profile. The developed M&S technique enables design parameter verification and system parameter optimization for MBES. The framework of this technique can also be potentially used to characterize the seabed properties. Finally, typical seafloor images are presented and discussed.

Performance predictions and acoustic analysis of the HVAB rotor in hover

  • This work presents a numerical investigation of the aerodynamics and aero acoustics of the HVAB rotor in hover conditions. Two fully turbulent models are employed, the one-equation Spalart-Allmaras model and the two-equation k-ω SST model. Transition effects are investigated as well using the Langtry-Menter γ-Re θt transition transport model. The noise generation and propagation are being investigated using the Ffows-Williams Hawking model for far-field noise and the broadband model for near-field noise. Comparisons with other numerical solvers and with the PSP rotor test data are presented. The results are presented in terms of thrust and power coefficients, the figure of merit, surface pressure distribution, and Sound pressure level. Velocity, pressure, and vortex structures generated by the rotor are also shown in this work. In addition, this work investigates the contribution of different blade regions to the overall noise levels and emphasizes the importance of considering specific areas for future improvements.

A coupled vibration model of double-rod in cross flow for grid-to-rod fretting wear analysis

  • In Pressurized Water Reactors, most of the failed fuel rods are often observed at the periphery of the fuel assembly, especially near the core baffle. The rod vibration-induced fretting wear is a significant failure mechanism strongly correlated with the coolant and support conditions. This paper presents a coupled vibration model of double-rod to predict the grid-to-rod fretting (GTRF) wear. A motion-dependent fluid force model is used to simulate the coolant cross flow, the gap constraints with asymmetric stiffness between spring and dimple on the vibration form, and the fretting wear are discussed. The results show the effect of the coupled vibration on the deterioration of wear, providing a sound theoretical explanation of some failure phenomena observed in the previous experiment. Exploratively, we analyze the impact of the baffle jet on the GTRF wear, which indicates that the high-velocity cross-flow will significantly affect the vibration forms while sharply changing the wear behavior.

연속적 폭굉속도 측정 시스템을 이용한 테르밋 반응 혼합물의 연소전파속도 측정에 관한 연구 (Determination of Combustion Propagation Velocity of Thermite Reaction Mixture Using Continuous VOD Measurement System)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 연속적 폭굉속도(VOD) 측정시스템을 이용하여 상용 테르밋 반응 혼합제의 연속적인 연소전파거동을 측정하기 위한 방법을 제안하기 위함이다. 두 종류의 상용 VOD 센서(VOD PROBEROD-OS, VOD PROBEROD-HS)와 자체개발한 VOD 센서(VOD PROBEROD-ES)를 기존 연속적 VOD 측정시스템에 적용하여 테르밋 반응과정에서 발생하는 연소전파속도(VOC)를 측정한 결과, 자체 개발한 VOD PROBEROD-ES 센서만 정상적인 연속적 연소전파거동을 보여주었다. 결과적으로, 철재튜브 내 장전된 테르밋 반응 혼합제는 기폭점으로부터 100mm 이내에서 약 200m/s의 연소전파속도를 보였으며, 100mm와 300mm 구간에서 급작스럽게 증가하여 음속의 2배에 가까운 VOC를 나타내었다. 그 이후 서서히 증가하여 최종적으로 800m/s까지 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 테르밋 반응 혼합제를 이용하여 정상적인 VOC나 위력을 기대하기 위해서는 철재튜브 등으로 완전히 구속된 상태에 길이 300mm 이상 장전하여야 함을 의미한다.

함수율에 따른 우리밀과 이물의 종말속도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of moisture content on terminal velocities of domestic wheat and foreign materials)

  • 본 연구는 국내원맥 중 백중밀 및 조경밀의 성상별 분류를 한 후 정립, 피해립, 이물 중 밀막대 및 밀껍질에서의 함수율 약 9~30%(w.b.) 범위내에서의 천립중, 기하학적 특성 및 기류적인 특징 중 종말속도를 분석하여 함수율간의 상관관계를 구명함으로써 국내밀의 체계적인 수확 후 관리 중 정선, 선별, 운반, 저장 및 도정가공 공정에서의 설계공정 및 기초자료로 활용하고자 연구하였다. 백중밀 및 조경밀의 성상별로 측정된 기하학적 특성 중 장축길이, 단축길이의 값은 백중(정립: 6.57, 3.24 mm, 피해립: 6.16, 2.93 mm), 조경(정립: 6.74, 3.30 mm, 피해립: 6.36, 3.10 mm), 밀막대(21.18, 2.23 mm) 및 밀껍질(19.34, 5.95 mm)로 각각 측정되었다. 함수율에 따른(9.7~29.6%, w.b.) 천립중 및 성상별 종말속도의 값은 함수율이 증가할수록 서서히 증가하였으며, 측정된 천립중은 백중(32.26~41.51 g) 및 조경(45.30~ 63.07 g)로 조경밀이 현저하게 크게 측정되었다. 성상별로 본 종말속도의 범위값은 백중밀 및 조경밀 정립(5.46~7.13, 7.48~8.60 m/sec), 피해립(5.91~7.00, 6.48~7.75 m/sec), 밀막대(2.92~4.07, 3.74~5.22 m/sec), 밀껍질(1.07~1.85, 2.02~2.33 m/sec)로 각각 측정되었다. 백중 및 조경밀의 이물 (밀막대 및 밀껍질)의 종말속도 범위는 밀막대(2.92~5.22 m/sec), 밀껍질(1.07~2.33 m/sec)로 측정되어 이물의 최대값인 5.22 m/sec이하에서는 밀막대 및 밀껍질 선별 및 분리될 것으로 사료된다. 이로써 함수율에 따른 우리밀의 공기역학적 특징 중 종말속도를 측정함으로써 우리밀에 적합한 건조저장시설 및 수확후 관리모델 개발에 도움이 될 것으로 판단된다.
