Shell vibrations of the rotary compressor, which account for considerable portion of the noise from compressor, are caused by various sources. Among them is the vibration of the in nor part or cylinder assembly, which undergoes severe compression process and rotational motion. But little researches have been carried out about the behavior and effect of the inner part because of its structural complexity. Furthermore, the shell of the rotary compressor is hermetic type that experimental approach is very difficult. This research studied the structure-born noise of the Rotary compressor using FE an analysis. The comparison between sound pressure spectrum and natural frequencies of the shell vibration implies that shell vibrations contribute significantly to the noise. It is found that inner part vibrations are responsible for those through the FE analysis. Design modification of the inner part, which shifts the target frequencies, reduced overall noise level of the compressor.
The aim of this study is to acquire useful information of lower urinary tract symptom(LUTS) diagnosis through urophonogaphy signal as noninvasive method. The system was implemented to measure urophonography signal, urinary volume and uroflow. The slope of the log-log plot of power spectrum density changed rapidly from $2.01{\sim}2.07$ to over 3.32 when the occlusion rate was 2 mm to 3.8 mm. This information combined with the uroflow parameters could give a useful prediction of lower urinary tract symptoms.
In this study, the effects of inclined shaft angle on the hydro-acoustic performance of cavitating marine propellers are investigated by a numerical method developed before and Brown's empirical formula. The cavitating blades are represented by source and vortex elements. The cavity characteristics of the blades such as cavitation form, cavity volume, cavity length etc., are computed at a given cavitation number and at a set advance coefficient. A lifting surface method is applied for these calculations. The numerical lifting surface method is validated with experimental results of DTMB 4119 model benchmark propeller. After calculation of hydrodynamic characteristics of the cavitating propeller, noise spectrum and overall sound pressure level (OASPL) are computed by Brown's equation. This empirical equation is also validated with another numerical results found in the literature. The effects of inclined shaft angle on thrust coefficient, torque coefficient, efficiency and OASPL values are examined by a parametric study. By modifying the inclination angles of propeller, the thrust, torque, efficiency and OASPL are computed and compared with each other. The influence of the inclined shaft angle on cavity patterns on the blades are also discussed.

Tire manufactures have dealt with noise problem by varying the pitch of the tread. The various formulas for the variations are generally determined differently, however. Often these variations are based on a combination of trial and error, intuition, and economics. Some manufactures have models and analogs to test tread patterns and their variations. These efforts, however practical, do not determine the best variation beforehand or guarantee the best results. For this reason it was felt that a general mathematical approach fur determining the best variation was needed. Moreover, the method should be completely general, easy to use, and sufficiently accurate. This paper discusses a mathematical method called Mechanical Frequency Modulation(MFM) which meets the above requirements. Thus, MFM pertains to computing an irregular time sequence of events so that the resulting excitation spectrum is shaped to a preferred form. The first part of this paper treats the theoretical basis for computing an optimum variation ; the second part discusses experimental results and simulation program which corroborate the theory.

In this paper, the echo phenomena of Yingying Pagoda(ancient Chinese architecture), which may be resulted from interferences of reflection and diffraction by the pagoda eaves when pulse sound source is at some suitable positions, are investigated by an 1:2 scale model. There are valleys in frequency spectrum due to the interferences. On the other hand, taking eaves as wedges approximately, numerical spectral estimates are obtained from the closed-form impulse solution for diffraction of pulse point-source radiation by an infinite rigid wedge. The results of the numerical computations are similar to those of the model experiments. The study is a helpful guide to reconstruction or maintenance of this kind of ancient buildings.
The present study aims to investigate the feasibility of using a simple nonlinear acoustic method for the assessment of bone status and osteoporosis in trabecular bone. Correlations of linear and nonlinear ultrasound parameters with the apparent bone density were obtained in 32 bovine femoral trabecular bone samples. Highly significant positive correlations were observed between the apparent bone density and the two linear ultrasound parameters, the speed of sound (SOS) and the normalized broadband ultrasound attenuation (nBUA), with Spearman's correlation coefficients of r = 0.85 and 0.77. In contrast, the apparent bone density was found to be negatively correlated with the nonlinear ultrasound parameter introduced in the present study, the logarithmic difference between the power spectrum levels of the fundamental frequency and the second harmonic (PSL1-PSL2), with the highest correlation coefficient of r = -0.92. These results suggest that the PSL1-PSL2, in addition to the SOS and the nBUA, may be useful for the assessment of bone status and osteoporosis.

The waveform and spectrum analysis of Tursiops truncatus(bottlenose dolphin) sonar signals were carried out on the basis of data collected during the dolphin show at the aquarium of Cheju Pacificland from October 1998 to February 1999. When greeting to audience, the pulse width, peak frequency and spectrum level from the five dolphins'sonar signals were 3.0ms, 4.54kHz and 125.6dB, respectively. At the time of warm-up just before the show, their figures were 5.0㎳, 5.24kHz and 127.0dB, respectively. During the performance of dolphins, with singing, peak frequency ranged 3.28∼5.78kHz and spectrum level ranged 137.0∼142.0dB. With playing ring, pulse width, peak frequency and spectrum level were 7.0㎳, 2.54kHz and 135.9dB, and when playing the ball, the values were 9.0㎳, 2.78kHz and 135.2dB, respectively. The values determined from the five dolphins during jump-up out of water were : pulse width 2.0㎳, peak frequency 4.50kHz and spectrum level 126.8dB. When they responded to trainer's instructions, the values were 2.25㎳, 248kHz and 148.7dB, respectively, and greeting to audience, the peak frequency and spectrum level were 5.84kHz and 122.5dB. During swimming under water, peak frequency and spectrum level were determined to be 10.10kHz and 126.8dB. It was found that there exited close consistencies in pulse width, frequency distribution and spectrum level between whistle sounds and dolphin's sonar signals. Accordingly, the dolphins can be easily trained by using whistle sound based on the results obtained from the waveform and spectrum of the dolphin's sonar signals.

In this paper, We examined auditory threshold and critical ratio of amberjack seriola dumerili, in the Jeju Island coastal waters, to find out hearing ability of the fish. The auditory threshold level, critical ratio and hearing index of amberjack were determinded by conditioning method using a sound coupled with electric shock in the condition of ambient noise or white noise in an experimental water tank. The audio-signals of pure tone and electric shock were from 80 HZ to 800 Hz and DC 7 V, respectively. Values for the critical ratios were calculated in terms of the masked thresholds using the noise projected to stable spectrum levels at all measurement frequencies of background noise. Masking noises were in the spectrum level range of 65 dB∼75 dB $(re 1{\mu}Pa\sqrt{Hz})$. The auditory thresholds of amberjack within the test the frequencies were most sensitive at 300HZ as 94.5 dB. The critical ratios of fishes ranged from 36.4 to 52.8 dB. The noise spectrum level that started masking was about 58∼72 dB within frequencies.
A proto-type seismic measurement system with a reference was developed to improve S/N (signal-to-noise ratio) of seismic data, especially in noisy urban areas. Two pairs of correlation measurements (the one for microphone and geophone, and another for electromagnetic (EM) loop and geophone) were carried out near Kimpo Airport and at Kimje. The spectrum analyses were also performed to investigate the correlation of two pairs of time series; one for microphone and geophone, and another for EM loop and geophone. The sound waves measured with the microphone and the geophone are highly correlated. However, differences in the reponses are readily identifiable across 200 Hz; in the vicinity of 100 Hz, the spectral energy for geophone is 20 dB higher than that for microphone, and at near 500 Hz, the spectral energy for microphone is 30 dB higher than that for geophone. Overall, the spectral energy appears concentrated on the frequency window below 600 Hz for geophone. It contrasts with the observation of dominant frequency at the range of above 200 Hz for microphone. The wave forms of EM noise (due to an ACDC inverter) measured with EM loop and geophone are consistently and highly correlated each other. The power spectrum of the EM noise for EM loop shows that the spectral energies at odd harmonic frequencies of 60 Hz are higher than those at even harmonic frequencies of 60 Hz. It is compared to the power spectrum for geophone; the spectral energies at odd harmonics are nearly same as those at even harmonic frequencies.
This study investigated whether joint attention response behaviors in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) change in response to musical cues and reinforcing stimulus, and compared them with neurotypically developing (NT) children. The participants included 13 children with ASD and 14 NT children aged between 3 to 5 years. The study established six task conditions, involving cues (verbal vs. musical) for responding to joint attention (RJA) behaviors and reinforcing stimulus (verbal vs. sound vs. musical) for social referencing behaviors. These tasks were presented 12 times with two repetitions each. The results of the study showed that providing musical cues during the RJA phase increased levels of RJA in children with ASD, consistent with prior studies. Subsequently, musical reinforcing stimuli increased the frequency of social referencing behaviors in these children. This indicates that musical stimuli can extend beyond mere sensory cues, helping individuals to understand and respond to social and emotional cues from others. Moreover, these musical stimuli could serve as effective social reinforcement factors for this population.
