The objective of the study was to provide fun-damental data on somatotype for elderly women by classifying the somatotype and analyzing the characteristics of their somatotype. The subjects were 368 women ages of 60∼84, they were measured direct anthropometry. In or-der to find out differences among the age groups, the 368 subjects were grouped into two age groups(Group 1 aged 60 to 69, Group 2 ; aged 70 to 84) Data were analyzed using Factor analysis, Cluster analysis, Duncan test and Analysis of variance. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The characteristics of Elderly women's somatotype were bending of the upper-torso, fat-ness of the waist and abdomen, drooping of the bust and shoulder and hip. In addition, height, girth, depth and width items were decreased in their sizes respectively. 2. Through the factor analysis, we extracted 5 factors from anthropometric measurements. Factor components were obesity, height, girth of the leg and arm, length of the upper-torso except the center front length, the center front length, we categorized by 4 clusters using 5 factor scores. And after the cluster analysis using 5 factor scores, 4 clusters were categorized. The characteristics of clusters were as follows. Type 1 was characterized by short, obesity type, and droopy bust. Type 2 was characterized by short and slender type, dropped bust, and bending somatotype from the lateral view. Type 3 was characterized by middle sized and straight somatotype from the lateral view. Type 4 was characterized by tall and obese type from the lateral view.
The purpose of this study is to examine differences between real somatotypes and cog-nitive somatotypes by considering the degree of satisfaction of body parts. The subjects were 250 middle-aged women from 40-54. Data was collected through anthropometry and surveys. Data was analyzed by correlation analysis anova duncan multiple range test factor analysis regression analysis crosstabulation analysis. The results were as follows: 1. Middle-aged women tend to prefer having a slim truck long and slim limbs and their hope was to be tall in height and light in weight slim at the waist and abdomen. 2. The consciousness about thickness was in-tensified more than that about length of the body. 3. The slim somatotype group were more satisfied with their body than those of obese somatotype group. 4. The average R hrer Index of middle-aged women is 1.55 and the slim somatotype group is 1.33 and the standard somatotype group is 1.53 obese somatotype group is 1.82. Age has much influence on the body change of middle-aged women. Especially 45-49 years old the slim body type declined heavily. 5. When analyzing the elements of body sat-isfaction the biggest elements are in the sub-ject of girth related to the expansion of trunk. Therefore trunk girth has more influence on body satisfaction than height and limbs. So the obession of trunk girth is the most important factor in body satisfaction. 6. Most middle-aged women although not judged to be obese by measurements believed themselves to be obese.
In order to eximine the body form of the physically handicapped people, the 11 items of angle, 54 items of size and weight of the subjects were measured body silhouetter photographs and with the Martin's anthrophometeric instrument respectively. The subjects were consist of 37 boy students who are 13-19 years old and hemiplegias caused by cerebral palsy. And then the comparison between normal and paralysis sides, analysis of somatotypes with the body silhouetter photographs, ANOVA for effect of somatotype on measuring items for angles, and factor analysis for all items were carried out. The results were as follows: 1. The results of measuring are difference between normal and paralysis sides. 2. The items shown significant differences between normal and paralysis sides are diagonal anterior chest B, scapula length, armscye girth, diagonal posterior chest A, and arc of the bust. 3. The percentage of each somatotype shows the order of bending somatotype, turning over somatotype, turning over-bending somatotype, and standard somatotype in the upper body. There are significant differences between somatotypes and sternalis up, sternalis down, scapula, vertebialis, ${\alpha}$, and ${\beta}$ angles respectively. 4. From the result of factor analysis, front and back sections, length items of the upper part and the lower part from the bust line, and the upper size items at the bottom of armscye were abstracted.
Clothing design considers the concept of human body proportions. This paper proposes an anterior somatotype and body proportion modular by head ratio for 20s to 30s Korean males. Anterior somatotype is classified into 18-types with 13 ratios that consist of 7 heights and 6 widths divided by stature. A total of 18-types are expressed in numerical values that represent the percentage of the stature and geometrical figures represented on the grids one unit is 1% of the stature. The torso is divided by 6 modules that are side neck to shoulder, shoulder to axillary, axillary to waist, waist to navel, navel to hip, and hip to crotch. Head and leg can be estimated as numerical information of stature and torso. Morphological characteristics of anterior somatotype are analyzed by 4 factors based on results and 18-types named by simple signs. We develop a new classification of anterior somatotype that integrate vertical and horizontal characters of body proportions. The use of integrated classification in the clothing industry is expected to increase the clothing fit.
The purpose of this research is to understand the physiological characteristics of muscular men between the ages of 20 and 34 years who are distinct from the general population due to their muscular development, and to categorize them according to upper body somatotypes. This research was conducted in order to provide basic data necessary for developing clothing products for muscular men. The research method and results were as follows: the "Sheldon's" and "Heath-Carter" somatotype classification methods were carried out at sports centers, the Athletic College, and military bases in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. Excluding the 32 subjects that did not have a balanced mesomorph, ectomorphic mesomorph or mesomorph-ectomorph, research on the remaining 168 subjects was used in the data analysis. 2. We used the following factor analysis: factor 1 for torso size; factor 2 for upper-arm, armpit, and chest breath size; and 3. The upper body was categorized into four (4) types, and their individual characteristics were as follows: Type 1 had the most developed arms, shoulders, chest muscles, and the shortest height. These subjects had an average of 191 somatotype points and could be classified as a balanced mesomorph. The heights and the lengths of Type 2 were short. They had slim physical structures, averaged 182 somatype points, and could be classified as an ectomorphic mesomorph. somatotype points and were classified as a balanced mesomorph. The heights and the lengths of Type 4 were long. They had slim physical structures, averaged 164 somatotype points, and were classified as a balanced mesomorph-ectomorph. 4. After carrying out a discriminant analysis to validate the categories of muscular men's upper bodies, we concluded that our model had an accuracy rating of 98.1%.
The purpose of this study was to classify the lower body of the lost women and to investigate the three-dimensional characteristics of each lower body somatotype of them. The subject were ninety seven women whose. age were twenties and whose height and bust girth were in the range of mean$\pm1\delta$ of typical body size of twenties' Korean women. The forty one variables of their lower body were measured by Martin's Anthropometric Instrument. And they were analyzed for mean, standard deviations factor analysis, and cluster analysis. In the second phase of analysis, the three participants were re-selected in each type were measured by Sliding Guage and analyzed their lower body somatotype. The results were as follows; The components of lower body of 20s' women were extracted with 7 factors through factor analysis and orthogonal rotation by the method of Varimax. The rate of the cumulative contribution was 84.1% the first factor was the thickness of lower body, the second factor was the vertical size of lower body the third factor was the front shape of hip, the forth factor was the vertical size of hip, the fifth factor was the shape of abdomen, the six factor was the flat-ratio of waist and the seventh factor was flat-ratio of hip. The somatotype of 20's women's lower body can be classified into 3 types. Type 1 is the standard somatotype of 20's women's lower body and the 34.0% of the participants in the study was categorized into type 1. Type 2 is a short and corpulency type with protruded abdomen and hip and the 29.9% of the participants in the study was categorized into type 2. And the type 3 is a tall and thin type with plat abdomen and hip and the 37.1% of the participants was categorized into type 3.
Purpose: This study is executed to examine the effects of Korean somatotype on energy consumption and hormone changes during treadmill gait. Methods: The objects of study were a total of 70 university students in their 20s and 30s divided into 7 groups according to somatotype with 10 members each, 4 groups of male (M1, M2, M3, M4) and 3 groups of female (F1, F2, F3). Results: In case of male groups, there was a significant difference in VO2 and VCO2 between group M1, M2 and M3 (p<0.05). There was also a meaningful difference between Phase1 and Phase2, Phase3 and Phase4 in a phase (p<0.01). In case of female groups, there was a meaningful difference in VO2 between F1 and F2, F3 (p<0.01). There was also a significant difference between Phase1 and Phase2, Phase3 and Phase4 in a phase (p<0.01). There was no significant difference in VCO2 among them, but there was a significant difference in it between Phase1 and Phase2, Phase3 and Phase4 (p<0.01). There was equally no significant difference in the concentration of adrenaline and nor-adrenaline among both male and female groups, but such concentration showed meaningful difference before and after exercise (p<0.01). Conclusion: Energy consumption differs according to somatotype. There is a difference in hormone change, indicating that somatotype has effects on the physiological change. Therefore, in future exercise should be executed in more diverse conditions to further study somatotype with energy consumption and the correlations of hormone change.
This study was purposed to present the basic data on the elderly women's somatotype to develop new briefs design with high body-adaptability. The subjects were 115 elderly women in the 60s and 70s and the factor analysis for 32 directly measured values of the body parts was carried out to sort out the constituent factors of the elderly women's bodies, and finally 4 factors were decided. The first factor was the thickness of the trunk and the degree of the obesity in the center of the width, thickness and circumference. The second factor is the perpendicular size of the body with high loads on the longitudinal direction of the body. The third factor was the leg shape. The last factor was the degree of the sagging hip. The elderly women's somatotype was classified into 3 types. The first type was the 'mean somatotype' with the biggest height and the longest lower half body of the three types. The second type was the 'obese somatotype' with the mean height and length of the lower body and with the largest circumference and width. The last type was the 'skinny somatotype' with the smallest values of all the items in the perpendicular size and the degree of the obesity.
Objective: This study aimed to analyze somatotype characteristics of the women of 20's, 30's 40's and 50's and thus to provide the basis for developing pants patterns by the age groups. Background: Despite many previous researches for the somatotype characteristics of adult women, few studies have considered age groups. Method: The data of the $5^{th}$ anthropometry by Size Korea were analyzed for the purpose. The 32 direct body measurements and the 32 indexes of 2,213 women aged 20~59 were analyzed. In order to compare somatotype characteristics among the age groups, an ANOVA and a Tukey test were used. Results: The women in 20's were the tallest among the age groups, and had the smallest waist circumference and hip circumference. Their waist breadths were also the narrowest. They had a slim and long body type but their calves were relatively thick. The 30's women were smaller, shorter with the height and length items than the 20's were. They were bigger, wider and deeper with the circumference, breadth and depth items than the 20's were and they were heavier. On the other hand, their hip circumference and crotch length were in the same group as the women in 20's. The crotch length(omphalion) of the 40's women was the longest among all the age groups and the crotch length(natural indentation) of the 40's women was in the same as the women in 50's. The women in 50's were the smallest and heaviest among all the age groups. The difference between their hip circumferences and waist circumferences was the smallest. They had an obese abdomen and sagged hips. Conclusions: The somatotype characteristics of the age groups were significantly different, and thus it is suggested to develop skirt and pants patterns for each age group. Application: The skirt and pants patterns for the somatotype characteristics of the women by age groups will be developed through the body feature data of this study.
The purpose of this study was to find the differences of the real somatotype and the ideal somato type and fashion image sought in female collegians by somatotype. In addition, WHR, CWR, and body cathexis was analysed. ANOVA test, Duncan's multiple range test, and x2 test was used as statistical analyses. The results were as follows. 1. WHR of thin, regular, fat somatotype was 0.75, 0.76, and 0.83, respectively while CWR was 0.77 in thin, 0.81 in regular, 0.80 in fat somatotype. The respondents who considered themselves overweight recognized themselves fatter than real weight. 2. They were not satisfied with bust girth in thin, thigh part and calf part in regular people, and all part except foot length, hand length and sleeve length. 3. Clothing image sought by 45.5% female collegians was fashionable and raffine and that sought by 10.4% female collegians was elegant and graceful. 4. Among the body area, body parts that may have an effect on body image were body length in 13.1% of the respondents, waist girth in 10.7% of those thought, and hip girth in 10.0% of the respondents.
