The Effect of Solution-Focused Brief Group Therapy Program on the Interaction between Developmental disorder Children and Parents (해결중심 부모집단상담이 발달장애아동과 부모의 상호작용에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect solution-focused brief group therapy program on a relationship between developmental disorder children and their parents. The following research question is formulated to address the purpose: (1) Does solution-focused brief group therapy program will improve interaction on parents's "warmth" and "involvement"? (2) Does solution-focused brief group therapy program will improve interaction on child's overall action and relative behavior? (3) Does solution-focused brief group therapy program will improve relationship between the developmental disorder children and their parents? For research, 12 disabled children and their parents are assigned into two groups: Experimental and Control group. Findings are that. (1) The solution-focused brief group therapy program showed positive reaction on "parent's warm heart" but there was no reaction on "involvement". (2) The solution-focused brief group therapy program affect on interaction types of the disabled children. 3) According to self-recorded report, the parents' satisfaction of consultation has been increased by frequency. These results showing that the solution-focused brief group therapy are affected the interaction between developmental disorder and their own parents. Clinically, this outcome shows a significant practical implications on social work intervention.

  • This study aimed at finding out the effectiveness of Solution-Focused Group Therapy Program in reducing delinquents' problematic behaviors and increasing their self-esteem, impulse control, communication with the parents and bettering their daily life habits. Thirty one male delinquents under probation from a Probation Center in Seoul were chosen and given a Solution-Focused Group Therapy for 30 hours. For a comparison purpose another 31 male delinquents were chosen from the same Center. To evaluate the effectiveness of the Program, items were selected and used from Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale. Youth Outcome Questionnaire Self Report 2.0, Brief Family Therapy Center-Child/Teen Solution Identification Scale. Participants' and parents' self-reports on participants' changes and session progress records were also used for qualitative evaluation. The results showed some positive changes in participants' self-esteem, self-control, communication style with parents, and daily life habits. No illegal act was reported after nine months upon this Program, which posits this type of Solution-Focused Group Therapy Program as a viable solution for the prevention and recidivism of juvernile crimes.

  • This study is about the effects of the solution-focused group art therapy which was implemented for school maladjusted adolescents. The pre-test was conducted for 30 students who had difficulties to adapt school life in K middle school at K city, Gyeonggi province. 20 out of the 30 students were chosen to the participants for this study and randomly divided into an experimental group and control group, with 10 in each group. The experimental group received a 12 session solution-focused group art therapy including pre- and post-tests. This study found that the solution-focused group art therapy program improved the school life adaptation competency of the participants. In conclusion, the findings suggest that the solution-focused group art therapy can be a good approach to help adolescents to improve their school life adaptation ability.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a 'Solution-Focused Brief Play Therapy' and analyze children's responses to its various therapeutic techniques. The participants were three boys and three girls, all aged between 11 and 10 years, living in an orphanage on the outskirts of Seoul. Each child received 7-10 therapy sessions, each lasting 90 minutes. All sessions were video-taped and recorded verbatim. These data, along with the observational notes recorded by the researcher, were subjected to a qualitative data analysis(Creswell, 2002). The results showed not only that children set their goals and evaluated themselves objectively but also suggested solutions to meet their goals by doing something meaningful to themselves.

  • Purpose: To examine the effect of the solution-focused group counseling program on the nursing students' problem-solving capacity. Methods: The research design was one-group pretest-posttest design in quasi-experimental research. The subjects were 16 sophomore nursing students being in K university located in D city, Korea. The period of this research was from January 9 to February 20, 2002, from January 10 to February 21, 2003. The group counseling program that was developed by Kim, Hyeon Mi (2001) on the basis of the fundamental principles of solution-focused therapy of de Shazer, et al. (1986) and the solution-focused group counseling process proposed by Selekman (1991), LaFountain, et al. (1996) and Metcalf (1998) was used after being modified and complemented for the nursing students. The group counseling was carried out six times for 120 minutes per week. The instruments used for this study were the Problem Solving Inventory developed by Heppner and Petersen (1982) and Scaling question. Collected data were analyzed by paired t-test with SPSS program. Results: 1) Problem solving capacity increased after solution-focused group counseling program, but a significant difference was not revealed(t=0.835, p=0.057). 2) The scores of self-confidence with the problem-solving were significantly increased when it was compared with the 1st and the 6th(t=3.587, p=0.001). Conclusion: It seems that the solution-focused group counseling program should be considered as an effective nursing intervention program for the nursing students by improving self-confidence with the problem-solving. As a results, this study suggests that the specific techniques used in the solution focused therapy should be applied actively in areas of counseling and communication training for the nursing students and nurses.

  • This study aimed to develop a comprehensive group therapy program for divorced parents and their children for increased self-esteem, problem-solving technique, communication ability and emotional support. This comprehensive program was based on Solution-Focused and Satir's Experiential Family Therapy Models, as well as on therapeutic activities from various sources. Six mothers and 18 children of divorced families participated in this program which consisted of six, two-hour sessions. This program was found to be effective in enhancing the participants' self-esteem and communicative ability in addition to emotional support between mothers and their children, and among participants. Therapeutic activities were implemented in harmony with the Solution and Experiential based values and techniques, which seemed to heighten the fun and motivation for the participants to change their view points and behaviors in a positive way.

Development of a Group Therapy Program for Social Readjustment of Delinquents Under Probation (보호처분을 받은 비행청소년을 위한 집단치료 프로그램 모형 개발)

  • This study aimed at developing a Social Readjustment Group Therapy Program for delinquents under probation. This program intended to enhance the participants'self-esteem, impose control, daily life habits and relationship with parent. Thirty one male delinquents were chosen from a Probation Center in Seoul, and were divided into one of the four small groups. Group Therapy based on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Model was given for three hours for ten sessions by four group leaders and four assistants. Results showed meaningful improvement over all of the above target behaviors, especially self-esteem.
