The aim of this study was to evaluate the quality characteristics and antioxidant activities of green tea garlic paste added calcium. Garlic was heated with green tea and charcoal at high temperature ($120^{\circ}C$) and high pressure ($1.5\;kgf/cm^2$) for 20 min, and then added several calcium sources (calcium carbonate, calcium citrate, calcium lactate, mixed calcium, calcium powder). Calcium carbonate, mixed calcium or calcium powder significantly increased pH of green tea garlic paste (p<0.05). All kinds of calcium sources significantly increased the viscosity of green tea garlic paste (p<0.05). Solid soluble content of green tea garlic paste was increased only in calcium citrate and calcium powder groups. Lightness, redness and yellowness of green tea garlic paste with calcium were increased, compared with control group (green tea garlic paste without calcium). The antioxidant activities by DPPH and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity of green tea garlic paste added calcium citrate, calcium lactate or calcium carbonate group were much higher than those of the other control groups. The garlic odor and garlic taste by sensory test were significantly weaker in calcium carbonate or calcium citrate group (p<0.05). Based on these results, it was suggested that calcium carbonate or calcium citrate is appropriate material for deodorizing and fortifying agent for green tea garlic paste.
N-Methyl-p-aminophenol was polymerized by oxidative couplng in the aqueous iron chelate solution in the presence of oxygen, and black precipitate of oligo-(N-methyl-p-aminophenol) was formed quantitatively. In this oxidative polymerization reaction, methyl group attached to N in the monomer was partly eliminated, and it was clarified by the infrared spectra from the fact that the absorption of ${\delta}\;asym\;CH_3\;1460\;cm^{-1}$ and ${\delta}\;sym\;CH_3\;1380\;cm^{-1}$ in acetone insoluble fraction was much weaker than that in acetone soluble fraction. From Thermo-gravimetric analysis, oligo-(N-methyl-p-aminophenol) showed about 40% weight loss at $600^{\circ}C$ and it was less heat-resistant than oligo (p-aminophenol) that methyl group was not contained. In pyrolysis of oligo-(N-methyl-p-aminophenol) in He atmosphere, monomer N-methyl-p-aminophenol and water were formed, and in the pyrolytic gases, $H_2,\;CO,\;CO_2$ were detected by gas chromatography. From the above facts, to the structural change on oligo-(N-methyl-p-aminophenol) when it was heat-treated, it was considered that original linear structure was partly degraded, and the most of the oligomer was to go in with melt polycondensation to form polymer, and heat-resistant cyclic structure was formed at a time.

The surface of polyethersulfone(PES) membrane treated by Ar, $NH_3$ plasma, and the effects were observed before and after the treatment. The membrane treated by Ar plasma was increased the O/C ratio and measured the hydrophilic group, and the one by $NH_3$ plasma was attached the amine group and the amino group. In addition, with the wettability of polyethersulfone membrane $CO_2$ and the polar functional groups of surface interacted increasingly. Thus by comparable increase of the soluble selectivity $CO_2$ to $N_2$ both the permeability and the selectivity of $CO_2$ was improved. The optimum condition for the $CO_2$ permeation and actual separation factor of the plasma treated membrane was as follows; the measurement of Ar-10 W-2 min plasma treatment was $13.19{\times}10^{-10}cm^3(STP)cm/cm^2{\cdot}s{\cdot}cmHg$ and 20.12, and the measurement of $NH_3$-50 W-2 min plasma treatment was $15.40{\times}10^{-10}cm^3(STP)cm/cm^2{\cdot}s{\cdot}cmHg$ and 20.06.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to observe the reduction of lipid accumulation by treatment with Akkermansia muciniphila extract on 3T3-L1 adipocytes. Methods: After treating pasteurized Akk. muciniphila strains in HT-29 colorectal cancer cell, the relative expression of interleukin (IL)-8, tumor necrosis factor-α, IL-6, and IL-1β mRNA was analyzed by real time polymerase chain reaction, respectively. 27 strains of Akk. muciniphila which have anti-inflammatory effects were selected. 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes were treated with Akk. muciniphila for 24 hr and then measured the toxicity using water soluble tetrazolium salt assay. The cells were incubated for 4 days and then differentiated into adipocytes using the medium including adipogenic reagents for 10 days. The Akk. muciniphila was treated when the medium was exchanged for differentiation medium at 4th day and insulin medium at 6th day. To observe the lipid accumulation, the cells were stained with Oil red O dye and were measured using a spectrophotometer. Results: In the cytotoxicity test, the cell viability of 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes was significantly increased compared to the control group which untreated with Akk. muciniphila, and there was no cytotoxicity of Akk. muciniphila at 1×107 CFU/mL. The results on Oil red O staining and absorbance measurements were showed a significant decrease in lipid accumulation in the group which was treated with Akk. muciniphila compared to the control group. Conclusions: In our results, Akk. muciniphila has the inhibitory effect of lipid accumulation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes. This suggests that Akk. muciniphila could be help to improve obesity.

In this work, modified epoxy resins which were well melted in mild solvent were synthesized and solubility assessment was carried out for synthesized epoxy resins. Bisphenol-A type, phenol novolac type and ortho-cresol novolac type epoxy resins were used and fatty acid, dodecyl phenol (DP) and toluene diisocyanate (TDI) were added for synthesis of modified epoxy resins containing fatty acid (MEFA). Composition was epoxy resin/fatty acid = 1.0/0.5 and fatty acid/DP = 0.25/0.25 by equivalent weight and twelve MEFAs were synthesized according to epoxy resins. Viscosity and solubility were measured for twelve MEFAs. As a result, solubility of MEFA was excellent for mild solvent according to increasement of contents of benzene ring, glycidyl group and carbon number of alkyl group. And physical properties were measured for each coating of paints after preparing transparent paints of MEFA to melt well in mild solvent among twelve MEFAs. As a result, they showed an optimal performance on conditions of equivalent ratio of bisphenol-A type epoxy resin/fatty acid/DP/TDI; 1.0/0.25/0.25/0.5 and equivalent ratio of phenol novolac type epoxy resin/fatty acid/DP; 1.0/0.25/0.25 for drying time, adhesion, hardness, impact resistance and alkali resistance.
The primary alcohol groups of four kinds of polysaccharides (com starch, rice starch, sweet potato starch, and cellulose), with different structures and water solubilities, were oxidized to carboxyl groups using 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidine oxoammonium ion (TEMPO) at $25^{\circ}C$. The optimum pH, TEMPO content, and NaBr content for the TEMPO/hypobromite-catalyzed oxidation of the polysaccharides were $10.5{\sim}11.0$, 10 mmol/mol primary alcohol, and 0.49 mmol/mol primary alcohol, respectively. The oxidation degree for the primary alcohol group was more than 90% for all four kinds of the polysaccharides. The oxidation process greatly increased the water solubility of the polysaccharides. Water-insoluble polysaccharide such as cellulose became water-soluble to the extent of 8.42% (w/v). And also, the polysaccharides with very low water solubility (less than 0.10% (w/v)) such as com starch, rice starch, and sweet potato starch had high water solubility of approximately 45%(w/v). The gel-forming abilities with calcium ion were determined. The oxidized polysaccharides are new anionic polymers with unique structures that could have application as gums, gels, and films.
Atractylodes macrocepala KOIDZ. (AmK) is a herbal medicine and resources of functional food which has been used for the treatment of indigestion, anorexia, diarrhea and digestive dysfunction. Recently AmK is frequently used as resources of functional food and whitening cosmetics. In this study was carried out to evaluate the acute oral toxicity of Amk in Sprague-Dawley(SD) rats. male and female rats were administered orally with Amk extract of 1,000 mg/kg (low dosage group), 2,000 mg/kg (middle dosage group) and 4,000 mg/kg (high dosage group). We daily observed number of deaths, clinical signs and gross findings for 7 days. No dead SD rats and no clinical signs were found during the experiment period. Also other specific changes were not found between control and treated groups in hematology and serum biochemistry. But we found out feeble histopathological changes in liver fat tissues. In addition no significant changes of gross bady and individual organs weight. These results suggest that water soluble extract of AmK has not acute oral toxicity and oral $LD_{50}$ value was over 4,000 mg/kg in SD rats.
Succinic acid ester derivatives have been used as additives for the base oil of metal working fluids and pressure working oils. In this paper, a series of succinic acid alkyl half-esters were synthesized with over 97% yields by ring-opening reaction of succinic anhydride and fatty alcohol and were soluble in 100 N base oil within 1 wt% concentration. The structures and purities of ester derivatives were confirmed by $^1H-NMR$ and FT-IR spectrum and GC analysis. Anti-corrosion properties of the esters in sea water were evaluated through ASTM D665 method and weight loss method and compared to that of succinic alkyl esters without carboxylic acid group in the molecule. As the results, anti-corrosion properties of succinic acid alkyl half-esters with carboxylic acid group were better than those of succinic acid alkyl esters without carboxylic acid group. And, Anti-corrosion properties of the esters with a shorter alkyl chain of high concentration showed better performance than those with longer alkyl chain of low concentration. Inhibition efficiency % (IE%) of the esters was over 95% in the concentration of 80 ppm and corrosion rate (CR) was below 0.3 mm/year at the same concentration. Thus, the corrosion properties of succinic acid alkyl half-esters result from the carboxylic acid groups in molecules.
To increase the utilization of Centella asiatica (CA), enzymes such as cellulase and pectinase were added and the physicochemical properties of the treated CA were analyzed. In addition, apple-CA jam was prepared using the enzyme-treated CA, which had the best antioxidant properties, and the physicochemical and sensory qualities of the jam were measured. There was a high content of ascorbic acid, polyphenols, flavonoids, reducing sugar, amino acid, minerals and DPPH radical scavenging activity in the enzyme-treated group. The antioxidant component and activity in the jam prepared by adding enzyme-treated CA increased with an increase in the amount of enzyme-treated CA. In the soluble solids, the higher the amount of enzyme-treated CA, the higher the value, but there was no significant difference in pH. The sensory evaluation of the jam, in particular the taste, showed that the highest preference was observed when the enzyme-treated CA was added in the range of 5.0~6.7%, and the control group showed the lowest preference. There was no significant difference in flavor and spreadability among the treatment groups, however, the control group showed the highest color preference. In the overall acceptability, when 5.0% of enzyme-treated CA was added, the highest acceptability was shown.

Objective : Isoflurane, a widely used common inhalational anesthetic agent, can induce brain toxicity. The challenge lies in protecting neurologically compromised patients from neurotoxic anesthetics. Choline alfoscerate (L-α-Glycerophosphorylcholine, α-GPC) is recognized for its neuroprotective properties against oxidative stress and inflammation, but its optimal therapeutic window and indications are still under investigation. This study explores the impact of α-GPC on human astrocytes, the most abundant cells in the brain that protect against oxidative stress, under isoflurane exposure. Methods : This study was designed to examine changes in factors related to isoflurane-induced toxicity following α-GPC administration. Primary human astrocytes were pretreated with varying doses of α-GPC (ranging from 0.1 to 10.0 µM) for 24 hours prior to 2.5% isoflurane exposure. In vitro analysis of cell morphology, water-soluble tetrazolium salt-1 assay, quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, proteome profiler array, and transcriptome sequencing were conducted. Results : A significant morphological damage to human astrocytes was observed in the group that had been pretreated with 10.0 mM of α-GPC and exposed to 2.5% isoflurane. A decrease in cell viability was identified in the group pretreated with 10.0 µM of α-GPC and exposed to 2.5% isoflurane compared to the group exposed only to 2.5% isoflurane. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction revealed that mRNA expression of heme-oxygenase 1 and hypoxia-inducible factor-1α, which were reduced by isoflurane, was further suppressed by 10.0 µM α-GPC pretreatment. The proteome profiler array demonstrated that α-GPC pretreatment influenced a variety of factors associated with apoptosis induced by oxidative stress. Additionally, transcriptome sequencing identified pathways significantly related to changes in isoflurane-induced toxicity caused by α-GPC pretreatment. Conclusion : The findings suggest that α-GPC pretreatment could potentially enhance the vulnerability of primary human astrocytes to isoflurane-induced toxicity by diminishing the expression of antioxidant factors, potentially leading to amplified cell damage.
