  • Superalloys with many strengthening alloying elements are frequently used in powder form to alleviate harmful effects of alloy segregation. HIP (hot isostatic pressing) and DB (diffusion bonding) as a form of solid-state bonding process is often used to make turbine components, such as integrated turbine rotors. HIP/DB process requires many technical overcomes related to dimensional changes as well as microstructural control. In this research, HIP/DB process for nickel base superalloys, Udimet 720, were investigated with a view to control the dimensional change during the consolidation process. Simple disc-shaped cans were used to select the conceptual die design for the control of the dimensional change especially in radial direction. The change in the shape of consolidated shape was investigated using commercial FE code with constitutive equations for low temperature plasticity and creep deformation.

  • A 14-year-old virgin, female Yorkshire Terrier showed enlarged abdomen after udderectomy was diagnosed with canine mammary gland tumor accompanied with hydrometra. Gross findings appeared a white-yellowish $l0{\times}7{\times}7cm sized solid mass containing cysts filled with various colored mucoid fluids in the udder. Both uteri were distended greatly with white-yellowish watery fluids and their serosal surfaces were translucent. Characteristic micyoscopic findings in the mass of the udder showed great expansion of the mammary lobule and stroma and complete replacement of the glandular elements by prolifaration of myoepithelial cells. The mucosa of the uterus showed severe atrophy of the uterine epithelium.

  • This study attempts to develop a process which can produce three-dimensional shapes of metals directly from CAD data. Prototypes made from metals, can not only be used to test the mecchanical properties of the product, but also potentially become the actual die or product itself. The test-device of the process has been designed and manufactured. The laser scanning method using a scanning path schedule composed of circle and arc elements, scanning speed variation method and dwell method have been developed, which resist warping phenomenon and increase the adhesiveness between the layers. For the production of prototypes with pure iron powder, the optimal values of the principal process parameters have been determined, through which cross-shaped and twisted clover-shaped prototypes have been fabricated. In order to improve the strength of the prototype, the experimental studies of solid-phase sintering, and copper infiltration have been done.

  • Free vibration analysis of a Core Support Barrel shell structure is studied through experimental and finite element analysis methods. The structure is considered to be a thick shell with the ratio of thickness to radius 3/10. Finite element model is established by solid model with brick elements. Modal analyses are performed with respect to the various ratios of thickness to radius with clamped-free and free-free boundary conditions. Experimental test is done to find out how well the results are agreed with those of analysis. The comparison of the results from experiment and analysis shows a good agreement between them in general.

  • Injection molding is representative process of plastic production. Most of numerical analyses for injection molding have been based on the Hele Shaw's approximation: two-dimensional flow analysis. The present work covers numerical analyses of injection molding using three-dimensional solid elements. The accuracy of the analysis results has been verified through some numerical examples in comparison with the various conditions. In this study, moldflow software was used to analyze the cooling analysis. The results of cooling analysis and testing catapult were compared for plastic products.

  • A three node triangular element with drilling rotations incorporating improved higher-order zig-zag theory(HZZT) is developed to accurately assess the stress distribution through thickness of the laminated plate and analyze the vibration of pretwisted composite plates with embedded damping layer. Shear force matching conditions are enforced along the interfaces between the embedded damping patch and the border patch. The natural frequencies and model loss factors are calculated for cantilevered pretwisted composite blade with damping core with the present triangular element, and compared to experiments and MSC/NASTRAN using a layered combination of plate and solid elements.

  • This paper evaluates the effective width of composite steel beams with precast hollowcore slabs numerically using the finite element method. A parametric study, carried out on 27 beams with different steel cross sections, hollowcore unit depths and spans, is presented. The effective width of the slab is predicted for both the elastic and plastic ranges. 8-node three-dimensional solid elements are used to model the composite beam components. The material non-linearity of all the components is taken into consideration. The non-linear load-slip characteristics of the headed shear stud connectors are included in the analysis. The moment-deflection behaviour of the composite beams, the ultimate moment capacity and the modes of failure are also presented. Finally, the ultimate moment capacity of the beams evaluated using the present FE analysis was compared with the results calculated using the rigid - plastic method.

  • The author assumes that pure liquid metal is composed of molecular oscillators whose energy states are classified into two subgroups, i.e., A and B states, each being accesible to either one of the two sorts of lattice sites. The partition function involves constants characteristic of substance, which are obtainable from the Debye characteristic temperature assigned to its solid state. Calculation has been made for the various thermodynamic properties such as the vapor pressure, the entropy, and the heat capacity of liquid metals of GroupⅠelements over the temperature range from the melting points to the boiling points. The theoretical values thus obtained are in good accordances with those observed, within experimental error, although a slight derivation is observed in the atomic heat capacity.

  • In this paper, based on the research of high temperature YBCO superconductor, using the Yb instead of Y, with the YbBCO superconductor powder which was combined by means of conventional solid reaction, textured directional crystal was prepared by MCP method and the character was analyzed. Mixing the starting elements and calcining at 890$^{\circ}C$, 900$^{\circ}C$, 910$^{\circ}C$, single phase YbBCO, Yb$_2$BaCuO$\sub$5/ and BaCuO$\sub$2/ were certified. And from the powder which was calcined at 900$^{\circ}C$ the, sample which became texture-growth by MCP method was well oriented. The result of DTA measurement, the fusing point of YbBCO superconductor and it\`s critical current was measured to be 979$^{\circ}C$, 87K respectively. The critical current density was obtained at the value of 700A/$\textrm{cm}^2$(77K. 0H) calculated by Bean's Model using the measured hysteresis curve of VSM.

  • Self-assembled InAs quantum dots (QDs) embedded in an InAlGaAs matrix were grown on an InP (001) using a solid-source molecular beam epitaxy and investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. TEM images indicated that the QD formation was strongly dependent on the growth behaviors of group III elements during the deposition of InAlGaAs barriers. We achieved a lasing operation of around 1.5 ${\mu}m$ at room temperature from uncoated QD lasers based on the InAlGaAs-InAlAs material system on the InP (001). The lasing wavelengths of the ridge-waveguide QD lasers were also dependent upon the cavity lengths due mainly to the gain required for the lasing operation.
