  • This paper reveals both the operational situation and the cause of the error occurred in wind turbine generator system of Hangwon wind farm in Jeju island. The four wind turbines were selected for this work, and the monitored period was for six months. Wind resource in the wind farm was analyzed, and the estimated energy production was compared with the actual energy production. As a result, with a decrease of system error, the estimated energy production was in good agreement with the actual energy production. The errors occurring in components such as gearbox and hydraulic motor affected the Availability of the wind turbine. Also, poor external conditions such as a strong wind, lightning and gust caused a standstill of wind turbines.

  • The global demand for energy has been increasing since past decades. Various technologies have been working to find a suitable alternative for the generation of sustainable energy. Photovoltaic technologies for solar energy conversion represent one of the significant routes for the green and renewable energy production. Despite of remarkable improvement in solar cell technologies, the generation of power is still suffering with lower energy conversion efficiency, high production cost, etc. The major problem in improving the PV efficiency is spectral mismatch between the incident solar spectrum and bandgap of a semiconductor material used in solar cell. Luminescent materials such as rare-earth doped phosphor materials having the quantum efficiency higher than unity can be helpful for photovoltaic applications. Quantum cutting phosphors are the most suitable candidates for the generation of two or more low-energy photons for the absorption of every incident high-energy photons. The phosphors which are capable of converting UV photon to visible and near-IR (NIR) photon are studied primarily for photovoltaic applications. In this review, we will survey various near IR quantum cutting phosphors with respective to their synthesis method, energy transfer mechanism, nature of activator, sensitizer and dopant materials incorporation and energy conversion efficiency considering their applications in photovoltaics.

  • Solar thermochemical syngas and hydrogen production process bv redox system of metal oxide was performed under direct irradiation of the metal oxide on the SiC ceramic foam device using solar simulator. $CeO_2/ZrO_2$ nanotube has been synthesized by anodic oxidation method. Syngas and hydrogen production process is one of the promising chemical pathway for storage and transportation of solar heat by converting solar energy to chemical energy. The produced syngas had the $H_2/CO$ ratio of 2, which was suitable for methanol synthesis or Fischer-Tropsch synthesis process. After ten cycles of redox reaction, $CeO_2$ was analyzed using XRD pattern and SEM image in order to characterize the physical and chemical change of metal oxide at the high temperature.

  • It has been recognized that a policy for supplying solar house and hot water production systems utilizing solar energy needs to be driven to save civilian comsuming energy or to develop alternative energy. However, the economic feasibility study of solar energy systems must be carried out before their practical use. The purpose of this study is to furnish information for supplying policy and enlightening users with the economic feasibility study of solar house and hot water production systems. Decision support systems are established to carry out economic analysis on solar systems more accurately. Therefore, computer simulation is carried out to analyze the performance of solar systems and also economic feasibility study by trial and error method is carried out. Fuel cost and additional cost for solar systems are estimated employing present worth concept and economic analysis has been conducted using the break-even point analysis method and life-cycle cost analysis method.

  • In an efforts to encourage renewable energy deployment, the government has initiated so called 1 million green homes program but the accumulated installation capacity of small wind turbine has been about 70kW. It can be explained in several ways such that current subsidy program does not meet public expectations, economic feasibility of wind energy is in doubt or acoustic emission is significant etc. The author investigated annual energy production of Skystream 3.7 wind turbine using measured power curve and wind resource data. The measured power curve of the small wind turbine was obtained through power performance tests at Wol-Ryoung test site. AEP(Annual Energy Production) and CF(Capacity Factor) were evaluated at selected locations with the measured power curve.

  • This study provided a prediction model for solar energy production in Yeongam province, Jeollanam-do. The model was derived from the correlation between climate changes and solar power production in Yeongam province, Jeollanam-do, and presented a prediction of solar power generation through the regression analysis of 6 parameters related to weather and solar power generation. The data used in this study were the weather and photovoltaic production data from January in 2016 to December in 2019 provided by public data. Based on the data, the machine learning technique was used to analyzed the correlation between weather change and solar energy production and derived to the prediction model. The model showed that the photovoltaic production can be categorized by the three-stage production index and will be used as an important barometer in the agriculture activity and the use of photovoltaic electricity.

  • Two-step water splitting thermochemical cycle with $CeO_2$ foam device was investigated by using a solar simulator composed of 2.5 kW Xe-Arc lamp and mirror reflector. The hydrogen production of $CeO_2$ foam device depending on reaction temperature of Thermal-Reduction step and Water-Decomposition step was analyzed, and the hydrogen production of $CeO_2$ and $NiFe_2O_4/ZrO_2$ foam devices was compared. As a result, the amount of reduced $CeO_2$ considerably varies according to the reaction temperature of Thermal-Reduction step. and hydrogen production was not much when the amount of reduced $CeO_2$ decreased even if the reaction temperature of Water-Decomposition step was high. Therefore, it is very important to keep the reaction temperature of Thermal-Reduction step high in two-step thermochemical cycle with $CeO_2$.

  • Solar assisted heat pump with freon circulating system has been developed. Revising the cool chamber(flower storage) with the solar thermal hot water producing system, the more amount of hot water can be produced, which can be even used for room panel heating. The compressor was cooled by water jaket instead of air cooled so that the system energy efficiency was improved quite well.

  • In recent years, solar energy PV/T research has been actively pursued by complementing solar heat acquisition and solar energy acquisition, and PV/T energy efficiency is generally excellent. In this study, the annual energy demand is calculated based on one building, and the energy production when PV / T installed on the roof and the energy production when PV are installed are compared and analyzed by simulation case. In conclusion, Busan which is the southern province in Korea, has the largest amount of energy generation, and introducing the concept of sharing surplus energy, excluding energy demand from generation. As a result, it can be supplied up to 3.3 households.
