This study builds a sediment rating curve using the measured sediment yield and the simulated soil erosion by a GIS-embedded empirical model. Then the structured sediment rating curve is used to determine the SDR on a basin scale in southern Korea. The whole data(year of 2002-2008) are divided into two groups and the first group(year of 2002-2005) is used for calibration, while the other is used for validation. Two cases(rainfall amount and rainfall intensity) are analyzed to consider the rainfall runoff erosivity factor in simulating soil erosion. The results show the derived SDR provides reasonable accuracy and rainfall intensity gives better performance in calculating soil erosion than rainfall amount.
Soil erosion and sediment delivery ratio(SDR) were estimated by using HSPF model in 3 tributaries of upper stream of Geum river-basin. Meteorological data and other input data were constructed from 2006 to 2011 year by the HSPF model. Flow and suspended solid results were relatively matched with the measurement data through the calibration and validation of the model. Soil erosion was proportional to the amount of rainfall and the area of watershed based on the results of model calibration and validation. SDR in Moojunamdea stream was the highest and one in Cho stream was the lowest. This was effected by the geographical characteristic. SDR was 17.6% Moojunamdea stream, 9.1% Cho stream and 13.2 % Bocheong stream. As the SDR was effected by watershed area and shape factor in this study area.
This study was carried out to introduce current status and development strategy for an environmental restoration of stream side in Japan, and to consider a methodology which could be effectively applied for the environmental restoration of stream side in Korea. The strategy prospects of environmental restoration in Japan were summarized as follows : 1. When we establish the long term erosion control planning, we should make detail planning after considering of a certain block of watershed units. Because most of the disaster is caused by soil movement which was occurred by water contents. 2. Nowadays, the general torrent erosion control planning system in Japan focused on reducing the sediment such as by placement of erosion control facility and by restoration of afforestation, after calculation of several factors including expected amount of sediment, and the different amount of planned sediment and allowable sediment. 3. In the past, the goal of forest conservation and erosion control planing was to fix the amount of soil movement by construction of permanent facilities. While, the goal of forest conservation and erosion control planning in the future needs to change the techniques to a small and middle scale's soil movement which could prevent soil movement from large scale of soil disasters, but allow soil movement effectively. Also, it is considered to change erosion control dams from non passing type to passing type. 4. Restoration of stream-side ecology, erosion control for the conservation of ecology should be planned and conducted cautiously based on concepts of ecology conservation and development of environmentally sound techniques.
PCBs have been measured using GC-ECD, GC-MS, GC-ELCD, HPLC, TLC, NMR and Immunoassay. The analysis of PCBs using GC-ECD include the peak pattern method as none derivatization and the Perchlorination method as derivatization. This study was conducted to establish the perchlorination method with Sbcls from PCBs to decachlorinated biphenyl(DCB). The aroclor 1242 of PCBs was chlorinated and then, converted into the DCB which showed a single peak in GC-ECD chromatogram. The detection limit of DCB was 2pg. The quantification detection concentration of PCBs extracted with soxhlet was 0.5ng/g in the soil. PCBs were not detected in the suburban soil, but 174ng/g in the soil of industrial complex. Mean PCBs concentration of Shinchun stream at Kumho river and Jinchun stream at Nakdong river was calculated average 낙ngjg in 각e sediment. PCBs concentration in the sediment of Kumho river near 2-7km from conjunction with Nakdong river was average 154ng/g. PCBs concentration in the sediment of Nakdong river near conjunction with Kumho river was average 159ng/g.

In Korea, length of irrigation and drain canal is about 98,638 km. In the case of 2011, dredging on the irrigation and drain canal was 7,288 km about 3,290,483 $m^3$, cost of dredging was about 5.6 billion won and cost of dredging increases every year. (Korea Rural Community Corporation, 2013). In the case of land reclamation, the problem of cross-contamination due to leachate after landfill is expected, causing saturation of the landfill site, or complaints of landfill local residents, a number of problems. The ocean landfill is possible if the items of 14 types as defined in the Sea Pollution Prevention Law contained in sediment soil, such as chromium. In terms of cost and labor, it is need to develop a technology utilizing a processing method reasonable sediments for irrigation and drainage canal. The objective of this study was to analyze the characteristics of the sediment deposited on the irrigation and drain canal. it is to provide basic data for the scheme that can be efficiently recycled sediment deposited on the irrigation and drain canal.

Fractional composition and mobility of sediments some heavy metals in Okdong stream are investigated. The fractional scheme for sediment heavy metal was made for five chemically defined heavy metal forms as adsorbed fraction, carbonate fraction, reducible fraction, organic fraction, and residual fraction (Tessier et at., 1979). The most abundant fraction of the sediment heavy metal is reducible and secondly abundant organic fraction. Adsorbed fraction is minor part of the total heavy metals. Mobilization of sediment heavy metals in stream Okdong is occur 19.8∼56.7% of total cadmium concentrate. The most abundant fraction of the sediment metal is organic fraction in Cu, Pb metals investigated. Labile fraction of sediment metals are 0.5%∼48.5% of total Zn, 2.6%∼48.1% of total Pb, 0.2∼36.9% of total Cu respectively, Most of labile fraction consists of reducible fraction for Cd, Zn, adsorbed fraction for Pb, reducible fraction for Cu, adsorbed fraction for Ni. The Mobilization of Zn and Cu is most likely to occur when oxygen depletes and that of Pb and Ni occurs when physical impact, oxygen depletion and pH reduction.
In-situ activated carbon (AC) amendment is a promising remediation technique for the treatment of sediment impacted by hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs). Since its first proposal in the early 2000s, the remediation technique has quickly gained acceptance as a feasible alternative among the scientific and engineering communities in the United States and northern Europe. This review paper aims to provide an overview on in-situ AC amendment for the treatment of HOC-impacted sediment with a major focus on its working principles. We began with an introduction on the practical and scientific background that led to the proposal of this remediation technique. Then, we described how the remediation technique works in a mechanistic sense, along with discussion on two modes of implementation, mechanical mixing and thin-layer capping, that are distinct from each other. We also discussed key considerations involved in establishing a remedial goal and performing post-implementation monitoring when this technique is field-applied. We concluded with future works necessary to adopt and further develop this innovative sediment remediation technique to ongoing and future sediment contamination concerns in Korea.
The effects of indigenous bacteria on geochemical behavior of As in As-contaminated sediments (Hwachon mine and Myoungbong mine) after biostimulation with a variety of carbon sources were investigated under anaerobic condition. In Hwachon sediment, As was dramatically extracted from nonsterile sediment with time, reaching the highest concentration of $500{\mu}g/L$. The As leaching was likely caused by microbial dissolution of Fe oxides/oxyhydroxides with which As had been coprecipitated. However, in the case of Myoungbong sediment supplied with glucose, dissolved As decreased with time likely due to production of As sulfide(s) and subsequent precipitation, which resulted from bacterial reduction of $SO_4^{2-}$. The results implied that bacterial in-situ stabilization of As In subsurface has a potential to be practically applied.
Mine is quickly decline, Nowadays, many of abandoned and closed mines. AMD is abandoned surface water by accumulated yellowboy and caused environmental pollution by amount of heavy metals. The aim of this study waste lime was mixed with the sediment to produce an aggregate far the purpose of neutralizing the acidity and stabilization the heavy metal in the aggregate structure .to pozzolan effect. The result of Waste lime and sediment mixed(5%, 10%, 20%)ration by curing days(3, 7, 38days), After 28 curing days as 5% mixed waste lime leaching solution concentration of all heavy metals is satisfied with regulation limit. Also, the result of fractionate heavy metals to stabilization as 28 curing days very decrease exchangeable and reducible type, and then increase carbonate type. With the above results, waste lime the most effective for the sediment treatment and useful for the recycling waste resource.
