  • It is common to measure multiple coverage metrics during software testing. Software reliability growth models and coverage growth functions have been applied to each coverage metric to evaluate software reliability; however, analysis results for the individual coverage metrics may conflict with each other. This paper proposes the virtual coverage metric of a normalized first principal component in order to avoid conflicting cases. The use of the virtual coverage metric causes a negligible loss of information.

  • When we estimate the parameters of software reliability models, we usually use maximum liklihood estimator(MLE). But this method is required a large data set. In particular, when we want to estimate it with small observed data such as early stages of testing, we give rise to the non-existence of MLE. Therefore, it is interesting to look into the influence of parameter estimators obtained using MLE. In this paper, we use two non-homogenous poisson process software reliability growth model: delayed S-shaped model and log power model. In this paper, we calculate the sensitivity of estimators about failure intensity function for two SRGMs respectively.

  • There is a new trend of incorporating software coverage metrics into software modelling. This paper proposes and empirically evaluates a software reliability growth model, which relates reliability to coverage. The proposed model is derived by modifying the assumptions on which Veevers and Marshall model is based.

  • There is a new trend of incorporating software coverage metrics into software reliability modelling. This paper proposes a coverage-based software reliability growth model. Firstly, the failure rate function in coverage is analytically derived. Then it is shown that the number of detected faults follows a Nonhomogeneous Poisson distribution of which intensity function is the failure rate function in coverage. Practical applicability of the proposed models is examined by illustrative numerical examples.

  • The software once developed enters in to the $2^{nd}$ phase of its useful operational life, where it performs its functions for which it has been developed. This is an important phase of software life, wherein the developers and users have to assess the performance of the software to prolong its operational life with efficiency, effectiveness and economy. Performance of the software is based on the measurement of the quality characteristics to ascertain that it is meeting or exceeding the needs of customers in terms of its functionality, usability, efficiency, reliability, availability, maintainability, portability etc. These software quality attributes defined under ISO 9126 provide an overall good framework for assessing the performance of the software. This paper describes a Software Performance Assessment (SPA) model using the Goal-Question-Metric (GQM) paradigm which has been applied to the operational software in real context with successful results.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identify the object-oriented metrics which have strong impact on the reliability and fault-proneness of software products. The reliability and fault-proneness of software product is closely related to the design properties of class diagrams such as coupling between objects and depth of inheritance tree. Methods: This study has empirically validated the object-oriented metrics to determine which metrics are the best to predict fault-proneness. We have tested the metrics using logistic regressions and artificial neural networks. The results are then compared and validated by ROC curves. Results: The artificial neural network models show better results in sensitivity, specificity and correctness than logistic regression models. Among object-oriented metrics, several metrics can estimate the fault-proneness better. The metrics are CBO (coupling between objects), DIT (depth of inheritance), LCOM (lack of cohesive methods), RFC (response for class). In addition to the object-oriented metrics, LOC (lines of code) metric has also proven to be a good factor for determining fault-proneness of software products. Conclusion: In order to develop fault-free and reliable software products on time and within budget, assuring quality of initial phases of software development processes is crucial. Since object-oriented metrics can be measured in the early phases, it is important to make sure the key metrics of software design as good as possible.

  • In accordance with the development of recent computer technology, the dependency of railway signaling system on the computer software is being increased further, and accordingly, the testing for the safety and reliability of railway signaling system software became more important This thesis suggested automated an analysis tool for S/W metrics on this railway signaling system, and presented its result of implementation. The analysis items in the implemented tool had referred to the international standards in relation to the software for railway system, such as IEC61508 and IEC 62279. This automated analysis tool for railway signaling system can be utilized at the assessment stage for railway signaling system software also, and it is anticipated that it can be utilized usefully at the software development stage also.

  • Software reliability prediction is a statistical method to put in place a timely software development practice useful for objective assessment of bidders. The current study suggests one research method that enables reliability assessment of such previous projects by studying user satisfaction and project management history. If incorporated into the existing acquisition process, the reliability assessment method will further enhance objectivity and accuracy in bidder selection process. The GQM(Goal Question Metric) paradigm was used to identify assessment metrics for bidder evaluation and questionnaires were collected from users to create user satisfaction indexes. In addition, 'weight of evidence', the most appropriate categorical method, was used to isolate attributes of each variable that may contribute to reliability assessment.

  • The reliability test performed when developing the weapon system software is classified into static test and dynamic test. In static test, checking the coding rules, vulnerabilities and source code metric are performed without executing the software. In dynamic test, its functions are verified by executing the actual software based on requirements and the code coverage is measured. The purpose of this static/dynamic test is to find out defects that exist in the software. However, there still exist defects that can't be detected only by the current reliability test on the weapon system software. In this paper, whether defects that may occur in the software can be detected by static test and dynamic test of the current reliability test on the weapon system is analyzed through experiments. As a result, we provide guidance on improving the reliability test of weapon system software, especially the dynamic test.
