  • The characteristics of Telecommunication Industry encompass not only hardware and software but also the service aspect of them. One way to improve the industry up to the international level in terms of hardware and software as well as service aspect is to comply with tile TL 9000 standard, which was established by QUEST Forum, the group consisted of U.S. communication industry, based on the ISO 9000 Quality Management System. In this study, design, establishment, implementation, maintenance and improvement of quality system for domestic telecommunication industry are thoroughly investigated based on TL 9000 standard, with its LCM(Life Cycle Model) model and measurements. Also, Process Approach is suggested to help the industry realize the system to meet its specific needs. In addition, specific examples with the successful certification to TL 9000 standard are presented.

  • The demands for additional functionalities and improvements in performance of software increase over time. In particular, increases in software complexity and requirements for quality control attributed to continued maintenance lead to the deterioration of software quality and raises in software life cycle costs. In order to prevent this, software operators have to conduct timely redevelopment of the software. However, the scope of previous studies on timely redevelopment of software is limited to enterprises. We, in this study, suggest a model to derive the optimal cycle for the redevelopment of governmental agency software using Renewal process and discuss its correlation with previous studies.

  • There are many studies on the project planning, project management and quality management. The cost of the new project takes only 20% of system's lifetime resource and the costs of the maintenance and infrastructure take more than 80%, so the study on the maintenance is much more important than the study on the new project. There has been many studies on the economic life cycle of the system using it's maintenance cost, but no studies on it's infrastructure cost. This paper provides how we can adapt infrastructure cost, which takes more than 40% of system's life cycle cost, to the economic life cycle of the system and its effects on the system's economic life cycle.

  • In this paper, a software policy considering testing time and the number of errors corrected is presented. The software is tested until a specified testing time or the time to a specified number of errors are corrected, whichever comes first. The model includes the cost of error correction and software testing during the testing time, and the cost of error correction during operation. It is assumed that the length of software life cycle has no bounds, and the error correction follows an non-homogeneous Poisson process. An expression for the total cost under the policy is derived. It is shown that the model includes the previous models as special cases.

  • Most of the existing statistical models of software manpower profile are based on the assumptions of the usage and development process. Therefore, there is no universally applicable estimation and prediction model. To develop a prediction model, this paper suggests the predictive filter as a prediction model for software manpower profile. Firs of all, we investigate the software manpower profile and we suggest the input-output of predictive filter and method for parameter determination. Then, its usefulness is empirically verified by analyzing the actual data obtained from the software projects. Based on the average relative prediction error and Pred(0.25), the suggested predictive filter is compared with other well-known statistical estimation models. As a result, the predictive filter generally has a simple structure and on the other hand, it adapts the software manpower profile very well.

  • Different kinds of information are used when solving tasks that arise in the life cycle of an applied knowledge based system (KBS). Many of these tasks are still under investigation. Their solving methods are often researched independently of each other due to complexity of the tasks. As a result, systems that realize these methods turn out to be incompatible and therefore could not be used together in the lifecycle of a KBS. The following problem arises here: how to support the full life cycle of a KBS. This paper introduces a class of computer knowledge banks that are intended to support the full life cycle of KBSs. Primary tasks that arise in the full life cycle of a KBS are analyzed. The architecture of a knowledge bank of the introduced class is presented, including an Information Content, a Shell of the Information Content and a Software Content. General requirements on these components are formulated on the basis of the analysis. These requirements depend on the current state of understanding in the life cycle of KBSs.

  • After the year of 2000, the need of safety increases in field of railroad. The project for developing Integrated Centralized Traffic Control(CTC) center started at 2002 to control the full domestic railroad network. A traffic control software was required the safety activity and assessment, according to 'KORAIL Instruction number 2001-49'. There were many trials and errors to perform safety activity because the technology and recognition of safety activity is in primary stage. However the safety activities are gradually stabilized. This paper describes the safety life-cycle and development life-cycle of Integrated CTC S/W and a suitable life-cycle of safety to develop S/W of Integrated CTC.

  • In this study, the environmental impacts of a bogie in the electric motor unit(EMU) were evaluated quantitatively using simplified life cycle assessment(S_LCA). Target was the bogie and life cycle inventory(LCI) database for the bogie was established. The software used for simplified LCA was PASS. Environmental impacts with the parts of the bogie were dependent on their weight significantly. Among impact categories, abiotic resource depletion(ARD) and global warming(GW) were shown dominantly. Global warming was occurred mainly due to the emission of CO₂released from energy consumption and abiotic resource depletion was caused mostly by the consumption of iron ore for the manufacturing of steel. Therefore, the environmental impacts of the bogie could be reduced by the light-weighting of EMU and the improvement of energy efficiency.
