Single Event Transient has a critical impact on highly integrated logic circuits which are currently common in various commercial and consumer electronic devices. Reliability against the soft and intermittent faults will become a key metric to evaluate such complex system on chip designs. Our previous work analyzing soft errors was focused on parallelizing and optimizing error propagation procedures for individual transient faults on logic and sequential cells. In this paper, we present a new propagation technique where a fault binary decision diagram (BDD) continues to merge every new fault generated from the subsequent logic gate traversal. BDD-based transient fault analysis has been known to provide the most accurate results that consider both electrical and logical properties for the given design. However, it suffers from a limitation in storing and handling BDDs that can be increased in size and operations by the exponential order. On the other hand, the proposed method requires only a visit to each logic gate traversal and unnecessary BDDs can be removed or reduced. This results in an approximately 20-200 fold speed increase while the existing parallelized procedure is only 3-4 times faster than the baseline algorithm.

Soft-decision detectors are used in many FEC and ARQ schemes to enhance the bit-error-probability and system throughput. Also, the hybrid-ARQ protocol is a very efficient schemeto achieve overall performance improvement. In this paper, we propose a new hybrid-ARQ protocol based on the first-order Reed-Muller codes employing soft-decision detectors. The Reed-Muller codes have the virtue of being able to use the fast Green machine decoder that is simple to implement. As the performance measures, the bit-error-probability and system throughput are evaluted for the proposed hybrid-ARQ procol, and compared with those of other hybrid-ARQ schemes. It is shown that the use of the proposed hybrid-ARQ protocol results in significant performance improvement without causing much loss in view of system complexity.

In this paper, we present a simple and general soft bit decision expression for a Gray coded PAM signal over additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) channel with the log likelihood ratio(LLR). In order to reduce the complexity of the LLR calculation, we make the bitwise LLR expression simple by replacing the mathematical max functions of the conventional Max-Log-MAP expression with simple arithmetic functions associated with some deterministic parameters, such as a received value and distance between symbols on a signal space. Taking the implementation issues, like the area of silicon, the power consumption, the timing latency, and so on, into consideration, we submit that the proposed method is a promising alternative way to conventional methods for reconfigurable systems.

Forward error correction (FEC) coding schemes using iterative soft decision detection (SDD) information are mandatory in most of the next generation wireless communication system, in order to combat inevitable channel imparirnents. At the same time, space-time block coding (STBC) schemes are used for the diversity gain. Therefore, SDD information has to be fed into FEC decoder. In this paper, we propose efficient SDD methods for turbo-coded STBC system using high order modulation such as QAM. We present simulation results of various SDD schemes for turbo-coded STBC systems, and show that the proposed methods can provide almost approximating performance to maximum likelihood detection with much less computational load.
There are two major conventional quantization algorithms: resolution-constrained quantization (RCQ) and entropy-constrained quantization (ECQ). Although RCQ works well for fixed transmission-rate, it produces the distortion outliers since the cell sizes are different. Compared with RCQ, ECQ has the constraints on the cell size but it produces the rate outliers. We propose the cell-size constrained vector quantization (CCVQ) that improves the generalized Lloyd algorithm (GLA). The CCVQ algorithm is able to make a soft-decision between RCQ and ECQ by using the flexible penalty measure according to the cell size. Although the proposed method increases the small amount of overall mean-distortion, it can reduce the distortion outliers.

Various improvement methods to treat settlement and stability of structures on soft foundation, that is now continuously introduced after being scrutinized. Therefore, it is very important to select the most suitable method among these various ones. In this study, quantifying the importance of effective factors when making decision, inducing priority and significance weight, systematic standard is proposed for technical, economic factor in making selection of soft foundation improvement method.
This paper aims to apply the concept of Pythagorean fuzzy soft sets (PFSSs) to UP-algebras. Then we introduce five types of PFSSs over UP-algebras, study their generalization, and provide illustrative examples. In addition, we study the results of four operations of two PFSSs over UP-algebras, namely, the union, the restricted union, the intersection, and the extended intersection. Finally, we will also discuss t-level subsets of PFSSs over UP-algebras to study the relationships between PFSSs and special subsets of UP-algebras.

The MCT-Adaboost algorithm chooses an optimal set of features in each rounds. On each round, it chooses the best feature by calculate minimizing error rate using feature index and MCT kernel distribution. The involved process of weak classification executed by a hard decision. This decision occurs some problems when it chooses ambiguous kernel feature. In this paper, we propose the modified MCT-Adaboost classification using soft decision. The typical MCT-Adaboost assigns a same initial weights to each datum. This is because, they assume that all information of database is blind. We assign different initial weights with our propose new algorithm using some statistical properties of involved features. In experimental results, we confirm that our method shows better performance than the traditional one.

In this paper, we propose a soft demapping method for 64-ary APSK in the DVB-S3 system. The proposed method in this paper uses the hard decision threshold (HDT) line for each constituent bit in a symbol, and calculates the soft bit information with the distance between the HDT line and the detected symbol. If the HDT lines are defined in a simple manner, the complexity to estimate soft information can be largely reduced compared with the maximum likelihood detection (MLD) which has an exponential complexity. By considering this, we first derive HDT lines for each constituent bit for a 64-APSK symbol, and propose a method to calculate soft bit information. We simulate the BER performance of the proposed scheme by using a turbo codes which requires soft-input-soft-output information, and compare it that of the MLD. The result show that the proposed scheme produces approximating performance to MLD with largely reduced complexity.
