  • The application of domestic wastewater on rice paddies results in the accumulation of sodium(Na$^+$) to the soil. Excessive concentration of sodium may cause the deterioration of the physical characteristics of the soil, change in the osmosis of the soil, destruction of soil aggregates as well as ion toxicity due to sodium accumulation. Using domestic wastewater as irrigation water should be preceded by measures to prevent or control the soil salinization caused by sodium. Agricultural reuse of domestic wastewater were found not to cause serious problems with food safety due to heavy metals. However, pre-treatment using ultraviolet or ozone is recommended to reduce the number of bacteria and gem and for public health reasons. Using domestic wastewater has shown that reducing the standard application of chemical fertilizers by as much as 50% reduced the harvesting index by only 10%. This study has shown that it is feasible to reuse domestic wastewater on rice paddies. In order to facilitate the application, it is deemed necessary to establish wastewater treatment technologies in the future, to review criteria for recycling domestic wastewater for agricultural purposes such as conditions of soil and cropping system and to resolve conflicts with farmers and public health issues.

  • 소듐을 냉각재로 사용하는 고속로의 증기발생기에서는 소듐과 물의 화학적 반응을 최소화하는 것이 중요한 문제이다. 소듐과 물의 반응 가능성을 줄여 증기발생기의 신뢰성을 향상시키기 위한 한가지 방안으로 이중벽관을 전열관으로 사용하는 증기발생기를 개발하고 있다. 이 증기발생기에서 중요한 현안은 이중벽관에서의 열전달 성능을 향상시키는 문제와 원자로 운전 중에 소듐과 물 반응사고가 일어나기 전에 전열관의 파손을 감지하는 기술을 개발하는 것이다. 이 논문에서는 이 현안을 극복할 수 있는 방안을 제시하였고, 이 기술을 활용하여 증기발생기의 개념을 설계하였다. 또한 이 개념에 적용되는 이중벽관을 설계 및 예비 제작하여 기계적 시험을 수행하였다.

황련해독탕(黃連解毒湯)이 Dextran Sulfate Sodium 유도 마우스 대장염에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Hwangyeonhaedok-tang on Experimental Mouse Colitis Induced by Dextran Sulfate Sodium)

  • Objectives : Hwangyeonhaedok-tang(HHDT) has been traditionally used for various clinical symptoms associated with gastrointestinal disorder, cardiovascular diseases, and inflammation in the Oriental medicine. However, little is known for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of HHDT on dextran-sulfate sodium(DSS)-induced colitis in mice. Methods : In this study, we investigated an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of HHDT on DSS-induced colitis in mice. An experimental colitis was induced by daily treatment with 5% DSS. HHDT was orally administrated the various concentrations(25-100 mg/kg, body weight/day) for 7 days with one time per day. Results : HHDT reduced significantly clinical sign of DSS-induced colitis, including body weight loss, shorten colon length, disease activity index(DAI), and histological colon injury. HHDT also inhibited significantly serum NO and prostaglandine $E_2(PGE_2)$ productions in DSS-induced colitis mice. Furthermore, HDDT increased significantly an superoxide anion(SOD), catalase, and glutathione peroxidase(GPx) activity of the colon tissue in DSS-induced colitis mice. Conclusions : These results suggest that HHDT administration could reduce significantly the clinical signs and inflammatory mediators, and increase antioxidant activity in DSS-induced colitis model mice and is a good candidate for further evaluation as an effective anti-ulcerative agent.

Dextran Sulfate Sodium 유도 마우스 대장염에 미치는 오미자와 매실의 상승효과 (Synergic Effect of Methanol extracts of Schizandrae Fructus and Mume Fructus on Experimental Mouse Colitis Induced by Dextran Sulfate Sodium)

  • The fruits of Schisandra chinensis and Prunus mume have been traditionally used in the Oriental countries as an astringent against diarrhea and abdominal pain, a protectant for liver disease, an antimicrobial, and a blood tonic. However, little is known about the extract of Schizandrae Fructus and Mume Fructus (SMF-Ex) on dextran-sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in mice. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of SMF-Ex on DSS-induced colitis in mice. An experimental colitis was induced by daily treatment with 5% DSS. SMF-Ex was orally administrated the single dose (80 mg/kg, body weight/day) for 7 days with one time per day. SMF-Ex reduced significantly clinical sign of DSS-induced colitis, including body weight loss, shorten colon length, increased disease activity index (DAI), and histological colon injury. SMF-Ex also inhibited significantly nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandine $E_2$ ($PGE_2$) productions in DSS-induced colitis mice. Furthermore, SMF-Ex increased significantly an superoxide anion (SOD), catalase, and glutathione peroxidase (Gpx) activity of the colon tissue in DSS-induced colitis mice. These results suggest that SMF-Ex administration could reduce significantly the clinical signs and inflammatory mediators, and increase antioxidant activity in DSS-induced colitis model mice and is a good candidate for further evaluation as an effective anti-ulcerative agent.

편의점 도시락의 식단형태별, 가격대별, 편의점 브랜드별 영양성분 함량 평가 (Evaluation of Nutritional Content in Convenience Store Lunchboxes by Meal Type, Price, and Store Brand)

  • Objectives: This study investigated the menu and nutritional contents of convenience store lunchboxes, and evaluated the nutritional content by meal type, price, and store brand. Methods: In September 2019, 93 convenience store lunchboxes from the top five franchise stores were purchased. Relevant information on price, food weight, food ingredients, cooking methods, and nutrition labeling were subsequently collected. Nutritional content was evaluated based on the daily value (DV) and Index of Nutritional Quality (INQ), and energy contribution of carbohydrate, protein, fat, saturated fat and sugar was compared with the recommended range. Results: Most lunchboxes included the food groups; grains/starches, meats/fish/eggs/legumes, and vegetables. However, none provided fruits, and only a few lunchboxes provided milk/milk products. Stir-frying, deep-frying, and pan-frying were the most frequent methods of cooking. The average energy content of the lunchboxes was 736.6 kcal, whereas the average contents of protein, fat and saturated fat were higher than 40% of the DV, and sodium content was 66.8% of the DV. The contents of most nutrients in traditional type lunchboxes were higher, as compared to nutrients in onedish type lunchboxes. Considering pricing of lunchboxes, protein and sodium contents were higher in the higher-priced lunchboxes as compared to lower-priced lunchboxes, but there were no differences in the INQs. The contents of energy, protein, fat, saturated fat, and cholesterol significantly differed by brand. Conclusions: Our results indicate that convenience store lunchboxes contain high levels of protein, fat, saturated fat, and sodium. The nutritional contents differed by meal type, price, and store brand, and higher price did not imply higher nutritional quality. We propose the need to educate consumers to check nutrition labels and purchase appropriate lunchboxes. Manufacturers also need to make efforts to reduce the amounts of fat, saturated fat, and sodium, and not provide protein in excess.

  • (+)(18crown6)-tetracarboxylic acid ($18C6H_4$)를 퀴놀린계 항생제인 gemifloxacin을 모세관 전기영동법으로 키랄 분리하였다. Body fluid에서 퀴놀린계 항생제인 gemifloxacin의 직접적인 분석은 빠른 분석 시간, 다성분 분석등의 여러 가지 장점을 가진다. 그러나 Body fluid내의 높은 농도의 나트륨 이온은 $18C6H_4$와 강한 전하 상호작용으로 인하여 gemifoxacin과 $18C6H_4$의 상호작용을 방해한다. 키랄 선택제와 나트륨 이온 사이의 상호 작용을 줄이기 위해 완충 용액에 킬레이트 리간드 EDTA를 첨가하였다. 시료 용액에 150mM의 나트륨 이온이 존재 할 때에도 분리 효율의 향상과 이동 시간의 감소를 관찰 할 수 이었다.

Techno-Economic Study on Non-Capture CO2 Utilization Technology

  • Techno-economic evaluation of Non-Capture $CO_2$ Utilization (NCCU) technology for the production of high-value-added products using greenhouse gas ($CO_2$) was performed. The general scheme of NCCU process is composed of $CO_2$ carbonation and brine electrolysis process. Through a carbonation reaction with sodium hydroxide that is generated from brine electrolysis and $CO_2$ of the flue gas, it is possible to get high-value-added products such as sodium bicarbonate, sodium hydroxide, hydrogen & chloride and also to reduce the $CO_2$ emission simultaneously. For the techno-economic study on NCCU technology, continuous operation of bench-scale facility which could treat $2kgCO_2/day$ was performed. and based on the key performance data evaluated, the economic evaluation analysis targeted on the commercial chemical plant, which could treat 6 tons $CO_2$ per day, was performed using the net present value (NPV) metrics. The results showed that the net profit obtained during the whole plant operation was about 7,890 mKRW (million Korean Won) on NPV metrics and annual $CO_2$ reduction was estimated as about $2,000tCO_2$. Also it was found that the energy consumption of brine electrolysis is one of the key factors which affect the plant operation cost (ex. electricity consumption) and the net profit of the plant. Based on these results, it could be deduced that NCCU technology of this study could be one of the cost-effective $CO_2$ utilization technology options.

導赤散이 白鼠 腎臟機能에 미치는 影響 (Effects of Dojuksan on the Renal Function in Rats)

  • This study has been carried out to investigate the effects of Dojuksan on the renal functions and internal secretion system, as water balance, urine volume, urinary excretion of sodium and potassium, free water clearance, urinary excretion of creatinine, plasma levels of artrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), plasma levels of aldosterone and plasma renin activity, comparing experimental group which Dojuksan water extract were administrated with control group. Sprague-Dawley rats, about 200-250 g, were used for this experiment. The results of this study were as follows: 1. Water balance decreased significantly after the administration of Dojuksan water extract. 2. Urine volume increased significantly after the administration of $100{\mu}l$ Dojuksan water extract per 100g rat. 3. Urinary excretion of sodium increased significantly but urinary excretion of potassium did not change after the administration of Dojuksan water extract. 4. Free water clearance decreased significantly after the administration of Dojuksan water extract 5. Urinary excretion of creatinine increased significantly after the administration of Dojuksan water extract 6. Plasma renin activity did not change after the administration of Dojuksan water extract 7. Plasma levels of artrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) did not change after the administration of Dojuksan water extract 8. Plasma levels of aldosterone decreased significantly after the administration of 200 ${\mu}Dojuksan water extract per l00g rat The results suggest that Dojuksan increase the urinary excretion of sodium. and thus reduce the water balance, which resulted from suppression of sodium reabsorption into renal tubule by increasing glomerular filtration rate and decreasing aldosterone.

인천 일부 지역 중학생의 영양표시 활용도 및 나트륨 관련 영양지식 수준이 라면섭취에 미치는 영향 (Effects from the Use of Nutrition Labels and the Levels of Sodium-related Nutrition Knowledge on the Consumption of Instant Noodles (Ramyeon) by Middle School Students in the Incheon Area)

  • Objectives: This study examines the effect on the frequency of ramyeon consumption based on who checks nutrition labels and on the levels of sodium-related nutrition knowledge among middle school students in the Incheon area. Methods: Self-administered questionnaires were completed by 359 students (143 males and 216 females) from May to October 2021. General information as well as ramyeon-eating behaviors were surveyed. The frequency of ramyeon consumption was compared depending on who checks nutrition labels and on the amount of sodium-related nutrition knowledge students have. Both 𝛘2 tests and t-tests were conducted for categorical and mean comparisons. Results: Regarding the consumption of ramyeon, 46% of the students replied that they eat it alone at home. The criteria for choosing the kind of ramyeon to eat were taste (79.4%), price (9.2%), brand and new products (4.5%), nutrition (2.2%), weight control (2.2%), and other factors (2.5%). When purchasing ramyeon, more students replied that they did not read nutrition labels (66.0%) compared to those who did read labels (34.0%). Answers to questions on sodium-related nutrition earned an average of 6.84 out of nine points (males, 6.72 points, females, 6.91 points, ns). The average frequency of ramyeon consumption was 1.67 times per week (males, 1.66, females, 1.68, ns). The frequency of ramyeon consumption by students who checked nutrition labels was lower than for students who did not check labels (1.44 times per week vs. 1.79 times per week, P < 0.05). Conclusions: Students who checked nutrition labels reported a lower frequency of ramyeon consumption than students who did not check them. Education on checking nutrition labels may reduce the consumption of processed foods such as ramyeon and may lead to making healthy choices when purchasing food.

Sodium Chloride가 치즈의 품질에 미치는 영향과 저염치즈 개발 기술: 총설 (The Effect of Sodium Chloride on the Quality of Cheese and Upcoming Technologies for Manufacturing Reduced-Sodium Cheeses: A Review)

  • 세계보건기구(World Health Organization)는 식료품에 함유된 NaCl을 낮출 것을 권하고 있으며, 식품 내 NaCl 수치 감소시키는 것은 중요한 연구분야가 되었다. 염화나트륨(sodium chloride, NaCl)의 과다 섭취는 고혈압, 골다공증, 뇌졸증, 신장결석, 심혈관계 질환 등의 다양한 질병과 직접 또는 간접적으로 많은 연관되어 있다. 산업국가에서는 치즈등의 가공식품을 통해 많은 양의 소금을 섭취하고 있기 때문에, 치즈 내 NaCl의 함유량 감소에 대한 연구가 진행 중에 있다. 따라서 최근에 치즈 내 NaCl의 함유량을 감축하기 위한 많은 방법들이 이용되고 있다. NaCl은 치즈 내에서 방부제 역할을 하며, 식품의 풍미를 높이고, 치즈의 주요 기능적 특성을 담당하기 때문에, 치즈의 품질에 영향을 주지 않으면서 치즈에 함유된 NaCl을 감소하는 것은 쉽지 않다. 대체방법을 사용하지 않고, 치즈에 함유된 NaCl을 감축시키는 연구가 진행되어 왔지만, NaCl 감소 시에 발생하는 식품의 관능적 특성, 유동학 및 안정성 문제들이 보고되고 있다. 지금까지의 연구 결과에 의하면 식품 내 NaCl을 감소시키는 방법으로는 NaCl 대체(NaCl substitution)라고 불리는 방법이 있으며, 이 방법은 NaCl을 부분적으로 다른 염분(염화칼륨, 염화마그네슘, 염화칼슘)으로 대체함으로써 식품에 함유된 NaCl 수치를 감소시킨다. 실례로 자연치즈에 함유된 NaCl을 KCl로 대체하였을 때 치즈의 특성, 특히 맛에 변화와 안정선에 문제가 야기되었다. 반면, 가공치즈에 함유된 NaCl을 KCl로 대체하였을 때, 치즈의 특성이 큰 영향을 받지 않았기 때문에, 이 방법을 사용하여 치즈에 함유된 NaCl의 수치를 감소시킬 수 있는 가능성이 높다는 것을 나타냈다. 이와 같은 결과는 자연치즈 내의 NaCl 함량을 감축하기 위해서는 치즈에 함유된 NaCl의 역할, NaCl과 건강문제, NaCl 감소 방법, 다른 염분(특히 염화칼륨으로 NaCl 대체하는 방법)을 사용하는 방법 등에 관한 더 많은 향후 연구가 많이 필요하며, 적극적으로 진행되어야 할 것이다.
