Tests for the physical and chemical properties on the dispersive soils from the 3 selected sites in the northeast region of Thailand were carried out in the field and laboratory. In oder to find out the relationship between c1ay contents and dispersivity of the soil, some specimens are artificially mixed with a certain amount of clay in the laboratory and tested by means of pinhole tests. The artificial soils are dispersed in pinhole tests regardless of their clay contents. Chemical properties on the soil saturation extract and reservoir water are also determined by means of sodium adsorption ratio (SA,R), exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) and pH. The dispersive soils in the region have ranges of 1.8~6.7 SAR, 1.4~7.9 ESP and 5.4~9.0 pH value. Namely, the dispersive soils studied have somewhat higher SAR, ESP and pH value than those of ordinary soil.
The spectrophotometric determination method of scandium with eriochrome cyanine R(ECR) and the composition ratio of the complex were investigated in the presence of surfactants. The absorbance increase and red shift of maximum adsorption wavelength of Sc(III)-ECR complex were observed in cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTMAB), but those changes were not observed in the sodium dodecyl sulfate(SDS) and Triton X-100. A volume of 5ml of $1{\times}10^{-3}M$ ECR and 10ml of $2{\times}10^{-4}M$ CTMAB are necessary for the determination of $1{\times}10^{-7}{\sim}3.0{\times}10^{-6}M$ Sc(III) at pH 6.5. The apparent molar absorption coefficient of the Sc(III)-ECR-CTMAB, temary complex at 610nm is $5.6{\times}10^5mol^{-1}cm^{-1}L$ and its detection limit is $1.0{\times}10^{-7}M$. The binary complex composition of Sc(III)-ECR is 1:2 and the ternary complex composition of Sc(III)-ECR-CTMAB is 1:3:1.
Compacted bentonites were chosen as the backfill material and buffer in high level nuclear waste disposal due to its high swelling pressure, high ion adsorption capacity and low permeability. It is essential to estimate the swelling pressure in design and considering the safety of the nuclear repositories. The swelling pressure model of expansive clay colloids was developed based on Gouy-Chapman diffuse double layer theory. However, the diffuse double layer model is effective in predicting low compaction dry density (low swelling pressure) for certain bentonites, and invalidation in simulating high compaction dry density (high swelling pressure). In this paper, the new relationship between nondimensional midplane potential function, u, and nondimensional distance function, Kd, were established based on the Gouy-Chapman theory by considering the variation of void ratio. The new developed model was constructed based on the published literature data of compacted Na-bentonite (MX80) and Ca-bentonite (FoCa) for sodium and calcium bentonite respectively. The proposed models were applied to re-compute swelling pressure of other compacted Na-bentonites (Kunigel-V1, Voclay, Neokunibond and GMZ) and Ca-bentonites (FEBEX, Bavaria bentonite, Bentonite S-2, Montigel bentonite) based on the reported experimental data. Results show that the predicted swelling pressure has a good agreement with the experimental swelling pressure in all cases.

One of the objectives of this study were to develop a process for manufacturing activated carbons from agricultural by-products(rice shells and saw dust) and another is to measure the iodine number, ash content and removal ratio of COD. The other is to compare those values with those of commercialized activated carbons. Agricultural by-products based activated carbons were manufactured through the steam-reaction method. A rotary kiln type furnace was used for both carbonization and activation. The optimum operating temperatures for carbonization and activation were $650^{\circ}C$ and $900^{\circ}C$, respectively. For the activated carbons produced under these conditions, the iodine number was 1,127mg/g. Especially, removal efficiency of COD was 61.5% for 40mg/L of wastewater and 30% for 150mg/L of SLS(Sodium Lauryl Sulfate).
This experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of monosaccharides extracted by saturated portland cement solution on the cement setting in comparision with the inhibitory index (I) of each lignocellulosic-cement system. The wood species which have been widely reforested in Korea, Populus alba-grandulosa, Larix leptolepis, Abies holophylla, Pinus koraiensis, Pinus rigida, Pinus densiflora and agricultural wastes of rice husk and rice stalk were used at this study. The wood meal, 0.50g on dry weight basis, through 0.83 mm(20 mesh) and retained on 0.35mm (40 mesh) screen was extracted by 25 ml saturated portland cement solution and the pH of saturated portland cement solution Was 12.7. To eliminate cation exsisting in the extracted solution, the cation exchange column was used (Fig. 4). Afterwards the extracted monosaccharides were reduced into alditols with sodium borohydride and analyzed by the gas-liquid chromatography for xylan, mannan, arabinan, galactan, gluean. The heat of cement hydration for lignocellulosic-cement system was measured in Dewar flask (Fig. 2). And then the inhibitory indices were calculated from maximum hydration temperature, time and maximum slops of hydration curve of ligno cellulosic-cement systems. The results obtained were as follows; (1) The inhibitory index of pines-Pinus rigida (I=29.33) and Pinus densiflora (I=35.76), were lower than that of poplar-Populus alba-glandulosa (I=41.48), and the index of Larix ieptoiepis (I=73.00) was the highest among eight lignocellulosic-cement systems, and accordingly both Pinus rigida and Pinus des(flora were seemed to be good wood species for wood-cement composite manufacture. (2) In case of Pinus rigida, the inhibitory index was 29.33 and the ratio of the hexoses to the pemoses was 6.04 and in case of Larix leptolepis, the index and the ratio were 73.00 and 35.19, respectively. Therefore the inhibitory index increased with increasing the ratios of the hexoses to the pentoses. (3) The richer amount of xylose and mannose in species caused decreasing the slops of the hydration curve of the lignocellulosic-cement system, prohahly due to the chemical adsorption of the acetyl groups in the hemicellulose on the surface of cement grains. (4) The amoun of xylose and mannose were significant to the inhibitory index of each lignocellulosic-cement system but any specific relation between the amount of glucose and inhibitory index was not found.
방그라데시 북부에 위치한 풀바리 우파질라 지역의 지하수에서 pH, EC, 주요 양이온 ($Ca^{2+}$, $Mg^{2+}$, $Na^+$, $K^+$, $Zn^{2+}$, $Cu^{2+}$, $Mn^{2+}$, $Fe^{3+}$, and $As^{3+}$), 주요 음이온 (${CO_3}^{2-}$, $HCO_3{^-}$, $NO_3{^-}$, ${SO_4}^{2-}$ and $Cl^-$) 그리고 total dissolved solids (TDS) 등의 용존물질 함량을 측정하였다. $Cu^{2+}$, $Mn^{2+}$ and $Fe^{3+}$ 의 최대 농도는 각각 1.71, 0.606, 0.125 mg/L 이었다.

Raw mulberry (Morus spp.) juice was prepared by minimal processing using several filter aids, fining agents, and clarifying enzymes, followed by filtration, centrifugation, and membrane filtration. Control of browning in minimally processed mulberry juices by anti-browning agents, sodium hydrosulfite, L-ascorbic acid, citric acid, and NaCl, was investigated using quantitative measurements of color changes during storage. Clarification of mulberry juice was improved by adding several filter aids, fining agents, and enzymes, followed by filtration and centrifugation. Several fining agents, including chitosan, chitin, PVPP, gelatin, and casein at a concentration of 1%, and combination of ultrafiltration and centrifugation at 8,000 rpm were not suitable for clarification of juice owing to strong adsorption of anthocyanin pigment. Combination of $0.01\;{\mu}m$ membrane filtration and centrifugation at 8,000 rpm was effective for clarification of mulberry juice. Browning of minimally processed mulberry juice was inhibited significantly by adding 200 ppm sodium hydrosulfite, and 0.1% L-ascorbic acid (L-AsA) and 0,1% citric acid (CA) also showed considerable browning inhibition. Combination of L-AsA and CA, which was moderately effective for browning inhibition of juice, may be useful as a sulfite alternative for mulberry juice. Optimum sugar ($^{\circ}Brix$)/acid ratio and commercial sterilization of minimally processed mulberry juice were approximately 40 and 10 min at $85-90^{\circ}C$, respectively.
In order to investigate the relative mobility (RM) of dissolved elements during processes controlling major and trace element content, the concentrations of major, minor and trace elements were reviewed from the previous data of $CO_2$-rich waters and granites from Kangwon Province. The relative mobility of elements dissolved in $CO_2$-rich waters is calculated from $CO_2$-rich water/granite ratio with normalizing by sodium. The results show that gaseous input of magmatic volatile metals into the aquifer is negligible in this study area, being limited by cooling of the rising fluids. Granite leaching by weakly acidic, $CO_2$-charged water is the overwhelming source of metals. Poorly mobile element (Al) is preferentially retained in the solid residue of weathering, while alkalis, alkaline earth and oxo-hydroxo anion forming elements (especially As and U) are mobile and released to the aqueous system. Transition metals display an intermediate behavior and are strongly dependent on either the redox conditions (Fe and Mn) or solid surface-related processes (adsorption or precipitation) (V, Zn and Cu).
The infrared spectra obtained in the region of $4000∼1200 $cm^{-1}$ has been measured for pyridine, tertiary butylamine, and ethylenediamine adsorbed on various cation-exchanged silicates at various degassing temperature. It was possible to distinguish between protonic and aprotonic acid sites of all cation-exchanged silicates which exhibited both Bronsted and Lewis acidity. The sodium form appeared to be the least reactive towards adsorbates. The relative ratio of the band intensities of tertiary butylamine was directly related to the polarizing power of exchanged cations. Ethylenediamine was less easily desorbed from silicate surface than tertiary butylamine due to the additional amino group to react with surface active site, and probably to form ether hydrogen bond with surface oxgen by liberating migrating proton besides the coordination bond with Lewis acid site and the formation of$NH3^+$ species with Bronsted acid site.
Instead of deodorization appararus of fish oil, an adsorbent such as activated charcoal, activated alumina, silicagel, bamboo charcoal was packed in column alone or mixed with preparative ratio, and then test the effective deodorization with bleaching. In the progress of degumming, the effective method was 18 ml of 2.5% oxalic acid per 100m1 of crude large anchovy oil. The optical condition to deacidified was treating for 30 min at $40^{\circ}C$ with 2.5% sodium hydroride solution. The effective deodorization was added with 3% silicagel under the alone treating adsorbent, and mixed treating was 30% activated alumina and 10% silicagel but added to green tea powder was not effective. The major fatty acid of total lipid were 16:0, 20:5n-3, 18:1n-9, 16:1n-7 and 22:6n-3 after treatment of degumming, deacidfication and deodorizing in the large anchovy oil. The oxidative stability of refined anchovy oil added to $\alpha$-tocopherol was validated 20 days under the control, and 30 days in the case of $\alpha$-tocopherol. The 0.01% $\alpha$-tocopherol was more effective than 0.02% $\alpha$-tocopherol.
