Purposes: The industry has specialized and fragmented than in the past. As a factor of economic growth and industrialization, the number of people employed in primary industry decreased and the number of people employed in secondary and third industry continuously increased. In modern times, incidence of chronic disease is increasing according to industrial development. So, the purpose of this study was to analyze the chronic disease according to Clark's industrial classification. Methodology: Data were derived from the 2012 Korea Health Panel. The sample was made up of 7,132 adult participants aged 20 or over selected Korea Health Panel by probability sampling from Korea. Binary logistic regression analysis was conducted to examine the main factors associated with chronic disease. Findings: The significant factors associated with chronic disease were gender, age, marital status, household member, education level, insurance type, disability, BMI, and industrial classification. Female, elderly, divorced(including bereavement, missing and separation), one-person households, less than high school graduation, medical aid, disability, obese and primary industry were confirmed chronic disease increases. Practical Implications: The study finds that primary industry's prevalence of chronic disease was higher than secondary and third industry. Therefore, this study aims to management and effort of the worker who engaged in the primary industry. Policy development is required to address inequality or popularization of the differences in these factors by conducting a study to define the working conditions and socio-economic factors between industry.

Purpose: As an interest in the elderly medical expenses increases, elderly people are increasingly purchasing indemnity private health insurance. Authors tried to investigate factors of having the indemnity private health insurance among the elderly people aged 65-75 years. Methods: We conducted panel logit regression analysis on 2,465 subjects as of 2016 using Korean Health Panel from 2010 to 2016. The dependent variable was whether to enroll in the indemnity private health insurance. The explanatory variables included socio-demographic characteristics, economic factors, health status, and health behaviors. Findings: As a result of the analysis of factors of purchasing indemnity private health insurances, it was analyzed that people with larger family, educated, pensioner, high household income or no disability were more likely to have indemnity private health insurance. Practical Implications: Considering the results of this study, the factor of purchasing indemnity private health insurance among elderly people were more likely to be their economic than demographic characteristics such as sex, age, and marital status. Policy makers should make efforts to reduce the burden on the elderly medical expense and to improve equity of medical use through institutional improvement such as raising age limit and lowering premium of indemnity private health insurance and expansion of public health insurance.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of exports on Korea's employment and to decompose driving factors of change in Korea's employment embodied in exports (EEX). This study uses a multi-regional input-output (MRIO) and structural decomposition analysis (SDA) for empirical analysis, and uses a dataset of World Input-Output Tables (WIOTs) and Socio-Economic Accounts (SEAs) from the World Input-Output Database (WIOD). The main findings of the empirical results are summarized as follows. First, Korea's EEX continues to increase and Korea's share of EEX compared to total employment shows an upward trend. However, Korea's employment inducement coefficient of value-added exports showed a downward trend during the 2000-2014 period. Second, final demand from three countries (China, the United States, and the Rest of the World (RoW)) has affected a significant portion of Korea's EEX. Finally, from the results of the SDA, the effect of changes in final demand was the most important driving factor for the increase in Korea's EEX. Based on the results of this empirical analysis, this study discusses useful policy implications that could increase domestic employment in Korea.
Leakage is one of the representative abnormal conditions in Water distribution systems (WDSs). Leakage can potentially occur and cause immediate economic and hydraulic damage upon occurrence. Therefore, leakage detection is essential, but WDSs are located underground, it is difficult. Moreover, when multiple leakage occurs, it is required to prioritize restoration according to the scale and location of the leakage, applying for an optimal restoration framework can be advantageous in terms of system resilience. In this study, various leakage scenarios were generated based on the WDSs hydraulic model, and leakage detection was carried out containing location and scale using a Deep learning-based model. Finally, the leakage location and scale obtained from the detection results were used as a factor for the priority of leakage restoration, and the results of the priority of leakage restoration were derived. The priority of leakage restoration considered not only hydraulic factors but also socio-economic factors (e.g., leakage scale, important facilities).

This study focuses on the importance of macro socio-economic factors to explain the successes of Hallyu(Korean Wave). Studies of Hallyu have mainly discussed the contents of Hallyu products, emphasizing the excellence of Korean culture or cultural similarities in the East Asia. Analyzing cultural industrial factors, the study purports to contribute to more comprehensive explanations of Hallyu. To do so, the study analyzes the Japanese case, because Japan is considered as society where Hallyu is most institutionalized. The study suggests the importance of cultural exchanges between Korea and Japan as the background factors for Hallyu's success in Japan. In addition, the study shows the interactions of 'push factors' in Korea and 'pull factors' from Japan. As for push factors in Korea, this paper suggests the decline of music records(CD and DVD) industry and growing competition in broadcasting industry in Korea. Regarding the pull factors from Japan, robust music industry and changing broadcasting system are discussed. Although this paper try to suggest as many evidences as possible, the macro data suggested are not fully comprehensive enough to explain the importance of cultural industrial factors. In addition, micro-level analyses on the interactions among people who are working in the cultural industries are also necessary, and thus remained for the future studies.
Background: The problem of cancer, especially lung cancer, is very acute in Bangladesh. The present study was conducted to evaluate the risk of lung cancer among Bangladeshi people based on hereditary, socio-economic and demographic factors. Materials and Methods: This study was carried out in 208 people (patients-104, controls-104) from January 2012 to September 2013 using a structured questionnaire containing details of lung cancer risk factors including smoking, secondhand smoke, tobacco leaf intake, age, gender, family history, chronic lung diseases, radiotherapy in the chest area, diet, obesity, physical activity, alcohol consumption, occupation, education, and income. Descriptive statistics and testing of hypotheses were used for the analysis using SPSS software (version 20). Results: According to this study, lung cancer was more prevalent in males than females. Smoking was the highest risk factor (OR=9.707; RR=3.924; sensitivity=0.8872 and P<0.0001) followed by previous lung disease (asthma, tuberculosis etc.) (OR=7.095; RR=1.508; sensitivity=0.316 and P<0.0001)) for male patients. Highly cooked food (OR=2.485; RR=1.126; sensitivity=0.418 and P=0.004)) and also genetic inheritance (OR=1.93; RR=1.335; sensitivity=0.163 and P=0.138) demonstrated significant correlation with lung cancer as risk factors after these two and alcohol consumption was not prevalent. On the other hand, for female patients, tobacco leaf intake represented the highest risk (OR=2.00; RR=1.429; sensitivity= 0.667 and P=0.5603) while genetic inheritance and highly cooked food also correlate with lung cancer but not so significantly. Socioeconomic status and education level also play important roles in causing lung cancer. Some 78.5% male and 83.3% of female cancer patients were rural residents, while 58.2% lived at the margin or below the poverty line. Most male (39.8%) and female (50.0%) patients had completed only primary level education, and 27.6% male and 33.3% female patients were illiterate. Smoking was found to be more prevalent among the less educated persons. Conclusions: The results obtained in this study indicate the importance of creating awareness about lung cancer risk factors among Bangladeshi people and making appropriate access to health services for the illiterate, poor, rural people.

Background: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women worldwide. Although different metabolic factors have been implicated in breast cancer development, the relationship between hypertension and breast cancer has not been elucidated. Aim: To evaluate hypertension as a risk factor for breast cancer in Chilean women of low and middle socio-economic status. Methods: We conducted an age-matched (1:1) case-control study in 3 hospitals in Santiago, Chile. Breast cancer cases (n=170) were histopathologically confirmed. Controls had been classified as Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System I (negative) or II (benign findings) within 6 months of recruitment. Blood pressure was measured using a mercury sphygmomanometer and standardized procedures. We used 2 hypertension cut-off points: blood pressures of ${\geq}140/90$ mmHg and ${\geq}130/85$ mmHg. Fasting insulin and glucose levels were assessed, and anthropometric, sociodemographic, and behavioral information were collected. Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were estimated for the entire sample and restricted to postmenopausal women using multivariable conditional logistic regression models. Results: Hypertension (${\geq}140/90$ mmHg) was significantly higher in cases (37.1%) than controls (17.1%) for the entire sample and in postmenopausal pairs (44.0% compared to 23.8%). In crude and adjusted models, hypertensive women had a 4-fold increased risk of breast cancer (adjusted odds ratio: 4.2; 95% confidence interval: 1.8; 9.6) compared to non-hypertensive women in the entire sample. We found a similar association in the postmenopausal group (adjusted odds ratio: 2.8; 95% confidence interval: 1.1; 7.4). A significant effect was also observed when hypertension was defined as blood pressure of ${\geq}130/85$ mmHg. Conclusion: A significant association was found between hypertension and breast cancer over the entire sample and when restricted to postmenopausal women. Hypertension is highly prevalent in Latin America and may be a modifiable risk factor for breast cancer; therefore, a small association between hypertension and breast cancer may have broad implications.

Inequality of environmental impact is forecast to deepen due to the damage of environmental risk by the interaction between environmental and social inequalities causing more harms to environmentally vulnerable population. This study assessed the integrated cumulative impact of Seoul using Environmental Health Screening Tool developed by Environmental Protection Agency of California. In order to screen vulnerable area to environmental health, 10 indexes have been selected according to the environmental burden of exposure to environment and public health effects, population characteristics of sensitive populations and socio-economic factors. As a result of assessment conducted on cumulative impact of Seoul for years 2009~2011 through Environmental Health Screening Tool, risk factor for districts of Gangseo and Gangnam of Seoul showed high - Gangseo area indicated high risk factor both in environmental burden and population characteristics, while Gangnam area appeared high in environmental burden. The result of survey will be able to suggest scientific basis to push through fair and effective environmental policy in consideration of environment vulnerable population.
Background: Sale of single cigarettes is an important factor for early experimentation, initiation and persistence of tobacco use and a vital factor in the smoking epidemic in India as it is globally. Single cigarettes also promote the sale of illicit cigarettes and neutralises the effect of pack warnings and effective taxation, making tobacco more accessible and affordable to minors. This is the first study to our knowledge which estimates the size of the single stick market in India. Materials and Methods: In February 2014, a 10 jurisdiction survey was conducted across India to estimate the sale of cigarettes in packs and sticks, by brands and price over a full business day. Results: We estimate that nearly 75% of all cigarettes are sold as single sticks annually, which translates to nearly half a billion US dollars or 30 percent of the India's excise revenues from all cigarettes. This is the price which the consumers pay but is not captured through tax and therefore pervades into an informal economy. Conclusions: Tracking the retail price of single cigarettes is an efficient way to determine the willingness to pay by cigarette smokers and is a possible method to determine the tax rates in the absence of any other rationale.
Purpose: This study used receiver operating characteristic curve to analyze Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) ependymoma data to identify predictive models and potential disparity in outcome. Materials and Methods: This study analyzed socio-economic, staging and treatment factors available in the SEER database for ependymoma. For the risk modeling, each factor was fitted by a Generalized Linear Model to predict the outcome ('brain and other nervous systems' specific death in yes/no). The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was computed. Similar strata were combined to construct the most parsimonious models. A random sampling algorithm was used to estimate the modeling errors. Risk of ependymoma death was computed for the predictors for comparison. Results: A total of 3,500 patients diagnosed from 1973 to 2009 were included in this study. The mean follow up time (S.D.) was 79.8 (82.3) months. Some 46% of the patients were female. The mean (S.D.) age was 34.4 (22.8) years. Age was the most predictive factor of outcome. Unknown grade demonstrated a 15% risk of cause specific death compared to 9% for grades I and II, and 36% for grades III and IV. A 5-tiered grade model (with a ROC area 0.48) was optimized to a 3-tiered model (with ROC area of 0.53). This ROC area tied for the second with that for surgery. African-American patients had 21.5% risk of death compared with 16.6% for the others. Some 72.7% of patient who did not get RT had cerebellar or spinal ependymoma. Patients undergoing surgery had 16.3% risk of death, as compared to 23.7% among those who did not have surgery. Conclusion: Grading ependymoma may dramatically improve modeling of data. RT is under used for cerebellum and spinal cord ependymoma and it may be a potential way to improve outcome.
