  • Pedestrians not only walk along pedestrian pathways, but also choose unusual routes such as passing through buildings or crossing large scale open spaces. This study defines these unusual paths as social path, and includes them into one of the pedestrian road categories. Previous pedestrian accessibility and route choice studies could not evaluate correctly the space connectivity or optimal route because the social path was not considered properly. Therefore, this study analyzes the effectiveness of the social path in view of space connectivity focused on Coex and Seoul stations in Seoul, which are representative transit oriented development(TOD) areas. Global integration, which is widely used in network analysis, is selected (as performance index) to identify the space hierarchy and define new pedestrian links. The study results show that the network connectivity is improved especially in the main streets and social paths. This study demonstrated that the social path should be considered in finding the pedestrian optimal route from the practical perspective.

  • According to many conceptual researches and discourses, development of information-communication technology(ICT) has made great influences upon activities on time and space. But some empirical studies have shown that its influence in the real world is not so great as we may expect In order to avoid these two oppositional views, this paper wants to put interests on socio-spatial relationships or networks, rather than individual phenomena or consciousness, which have been transformed under the influence of ICT. The development of ICT presupposes a creation of information network, and hence the term 'etwork social space' can be used to see its spatial influence, which would be further understood with the theory of actor-network. This paper also suggests that network social space has three strata, that is, 'nstant' 'unctional 'and 'aterial' and that network social space can be emphasized not only as newly emerging social space but also as reconstruction of subjects' identity through his/her participation into information network as its node.

The purpose of this study is to give the fundamental materials for space program in terms of planning a social welfare center by means of analyzing spatial arrangement of each section in senior welfare activity. The structure of the social welfare center should be adopted to the reality and the center of local should pay attention to enhance the quality of life in elderly. As the aspects of the programs, distinctive program should be designed. To do so, social welfare center should be adjusted to the local situation and get flexibility on operating in the local level. Each program in senior welfare activity should be connected in the spatial organization and various space should be provided in desire of elderly. So the section of dining room and medical rehabilitation is a places mostly for the elderly. Multipurpose space for the interest and leisure and the space of the senior education facility are provided in social welfare center.

  • Since a private museums started in Europe 17C, many private museums established for high-class people like aristocrats to collect and to keep art works and to appreciate for limited members. After the French Revolution in 18C, the publicity became an important social issue through all European regions, and the museum gradually changed into public ones. Like that, as the concept of museum changed, its social role as well as its function was also changed. The concept of collection and display or preservation changed into the concept of exhibition and appreciation featuring the publicity. With the year-round exhibition, a classical concept, the planned-exhibition, a new active concept set as an important factor for a museum's projects. The latter concept embraces new social issues. Therefore as the space for planned-exhibitions reflecting social issues every season was needed, a museum sets its planned-exhibition space with the changeability, and gradually expands this kind of space in size. It is expected that planned-exhibition spaces characterized as the changeability may give some changes on the flow of a museum's overall space, and may have substantial influences on the flow. To recognize the changes in a planned-exhibition space's influence on the museum, this study selected some national, public museums having the planned-exhibition space, and investigated their influences on each museum's overall space structure through the analysis on space syntax. This study assumed the change of planned-exhibition space as the changes in the number of convex spaces, and measured it. And to understand the planned-exhibition's changes on a museum's overall spaces, such changed assumed as the numeric changes in convex spaces and measured them. In addition, the numeric changes's influence on the overall space structure was analyzed by measuring the overall space's average integration level. Through the above two factors, the 3 research methodologies and analyzed results were drawn out.

  • Korea's housing structure is predicted that one-person housing will be the most common type of housing in Korea. Therefore, this study intends to derive contents for designing a one-person housing space considering the life of a rapidly increasing one-person householder. For this purpose, this study objectively derives the social, economic and cultural influencing factors of one-person households through big data analysis, and analyzed the correlation between contents using social network analysis methodology. In this paper, 60 core contents related to one person housing space were derived by applying big data analysis methodology. And through social network analysis, the most influential contents were derived from the space editing and space composition categories. This means that the residential space is an important part of the design idea that can flexibly respond to changes in the user's life. Based on this study, future research will focus on the concept and design methodology of one-person housing space.

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal the process of forming a community in the school and to present the basic data necessary for the establishment of a social sustainable environment and space for future school space. In addition to a new awareness of time, it was carried out to help students understand the community forming space in the school. The purpose of this study was to investigate the formation process and characteristics of resting time community in the school. As a result of the analysis on the formation of community space in the school, there were many opinions that community space for social communication and interaction promotion in school is all without difference by gender and grade, and as a space which is considered to be most suitable as community space. A hallway alcove space, a small space adjacent to the classroom, and a multipurpose staircase. In addition, students wanted to make the communication activities such as meeting, communication, relaxation, and social exchange into the hall and corridor space in the corridor as the most desirable community space.

  • In this study, recently developed swarm intelligence algorithm called Social Spider Optimization (SSO) approach and its enhanced version of SSO algorithm with spider jump techniques is used to develop a structural optimization technique for steel space structures. The improved version of SSO uses adaptive randomness probability in generating new solutions. The objective function of the design optimization problem is taken as the weight of a steel space structure. Constraints' functions are implemented from American Institute of Steel Construction-Load Resistance factor design (AISC-LRFD) and Ad Hoc Committee report and practice which cover strength, serviceability and geometric requirements. Three steel space structures are optimized using both standard SSO and SSO with spider jump (SSO_SJ) algorithms and the results are compared with those available in the literature in order to investigate the performance of the proposed algorithms.

  • In the 1960s, rapid urbanization and industrialization created the social atmosphere of individualism in Korea. Individualism has weakened social ties, led to the breakdown of communities, and caused various social problems. So, the paradigm is shifting to a shared society and there are moves to seek ways to solve social problems through community. As part of the initiative, the value and importance of common space in multi-unit dwelling, the typical Korean housing type, is increasing. Thus, the purpose of this study is to identify the trends of domestic research about common space, to assess the current state of domestic academic world and explore the future plans of the common space. The content analysis method was mainly used and statistics were additionally used to analyze 172 preceding research. As a result, research on common spaces showed a steady increase to the current time. And research was being diversified in the field of publishing journals, research contents, research methods and facilities. Until now, most studies have focused on improvement of plan and the quality of common space by identifying the attitude survey, space planning, and the actual situation. Thus many more studies about proper way to operate and manage common space need to be conducted. it is considered that the common space will develop more efficiently. The study is expected to be used as groundwork for the development of the common space and serve as concrete data to show future development directions.

  • Acknowledging that individuals dislike having low relative income renders trade less attractive when seen as a technology that integrates two economies by merging separate social spheres into one. We define a "trembling trade" as a situation in which gains from trade are less than losses in relative income, with the result that global social welfare is reduced. We show that a "trembling trade" can arise even when trade is more gainful in four ways: through trade the absolute income of everyone increases, the income gap in both economies is reduced, as is the income gap between the trading economies. However, trade brings populations, economies, or markets that were not previously connected closer together in social space. As a consequence, separate social spheres merge, and people's social space and their comparators are altered. Assuming that people like high (absolute) income and dislike low relative income, the aggregate increase in unhappiness caused by the trade-induced escalation in relative deprivation can result in a negative overall impact of trade on (utilitarian-measured) social welfare, if the absolute income gains are not large enough to mitigate the relative income losses.
