  • The interactions between two-dimensional and three-dimensional stimulus configurations on visually induced self-motion perception (vection) were examined. The experiment revealed that there is no 2D-3D interaction, and vection strength is determined solely by the size of the moving background stimulus, which should be a primary factor in inducing vection.

  • As elder abuse has become a social problem, it has drawn a great deal of attention from researchers and policy-planers. While there have been a number of studies addressing various issues related to elder abuse, the present study aims to explain whether and how the perception of elder abuse would differ among the elderly themselves. In particular, the study focuses on the differences between urban and rural areas. Family-centered culture is believed to have a stronger influence in rural areas compared to urban areas. This cultural tradition highlights the importancy of the family compared to the individuals. Thus, the elderly who experience abuse would take it as personal matter rather than publicizing it. In addition, the information and campaigns on preventing elder abuse are less prevalent in rural areas than in urban areas due to limited communication networks. For these reasons, the study suggests a hypothesis that the elderly in rural areas are less perceptive to elder abuse. Using 6,709 persons aged 65 and over from a nationwide survey conducted by the Korean Institute for Health and Social Affairs in 2009, the study ran regression analysis on 4 types of elder abuse including psychological, financial, physical and neglect. The results show that regardless of types of abuse, the elderly in rural areas have lower levels of perception than the elderly in urban areas do. In addition, the frequency of social activities is positively related to the perception of elderly abuse. This is also true for the different types of elder abuse. The findings suggest that social effort to prevent elder abuse consider the urban-rural differences and their sources.

  • A survey of risk perception in South Korea was conducted in 2007 to evaluate relative riskiness of typical industrial and technological risks. This article summarizes the characteristics of risk perception using psychometric analyses. The survey with a sample size of 1,194 reviews the perceived level of 25 risk items in the areas of transportation, chemicals, environment, industry, nuclear power generation, and newly-introduced risks. Six categories of risk identified by a factor analysis show that the level of perceived risk does not correspond to the statistical level. Psychometric analyses including voluntariness, severity, effect manifestation, exposure pattern, controllability, familiarity, benefit and necessity demonstrate that voluntary, familiar and immediate risks are perceived as less risky than involuntary, unfamiliar and delayed ones. Risk communication is critical in reducing the discrepance between objective and subjective level of risk. However, the amount of risk information does not always justify a successful risk communication. A safety policy, risk communication strategy in particular, should take into account diverse dimensions of risk reviewed by psychometric analyses in the study. Social policy toward safety can be improved by integrating policy, human, and social factors as well as technological advances.

  • The study investigates the media distinctiveness between twitter and other social media and describes how product information interpretation and responsiveness by internet users can be affected by the distinctive characteristics of twitter and blog media. The characteristics include relationship formation patterns among users, channel diversity, immediateness of information communication, information flow within media, media credibility, and management cost. Specifically, we statistically tested whether these characteristics are meaningfully differentiated by users. Results also showed that users perceived product information processing level and product evaluation direction differently based on these media characteristics. The current findings can serve as a pioneering work to provide a theoretical framework for examining social media characteristics and their impacts on consumer perception. In addition, this study practically suggests that marketers and network managers need to use differentiated communication strategies for twitters as a marketing strategic option.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between perceived risk and purchasing behavior of clothing gift among adult women. Data were collected from 258 adult women reside in Kwangiu who have ever been to purchase clothing gift during recent six months using a qusetionaire. Frequency Analysis, Factor Analysis, Correlation Analysis, T-test were carried out in the collected data. The findings were as follows; 1. The types of risks that respondents perceived when they purchased clothing gift were identified as practical-economic risk, the social-psychological risk, the fashionable risk and the time-refunding risk. 2. The higher the self-satisfaction motivation was, the higher the social-psychological risk and the higher the practical motivation was, the higher the practical-economic risk (P<.001). 3. The degree of the perceived risks of the Low Planning Group was higher than that of the High Planning Group (P<.001). 4. When the respondents perceived social-psychological risk high, they considered brand, fashionability, and store type as more important selective criteria and when the practical-economic risk perceived high, practicality, store service were conidered more important (P<.05). 5. When respondents perceived social-psychological and fashionable risk high, they used both personal information and non-personal information high (P<.01). • With the full spread and rapid development of social media, the trend of decentralization of social media information propagation is becoming clearer day by day, and the segmentation of time by audiences using social media information is clearly progressing. Therefore, this study aims to study the influence relationship between social media attitudes toward fake news, social capital, risk perception, and discriminant intentions based on existing studies. Accordingly, the research model presented related research questions and organized a questionnaire to collect a total of 500 valid surveys. The SPSS 26.0 program and the AMOS 24.0 program were used to analyze the data. The research results are as follows. First, the more positive the user's attitude towards the fake news identification intention of social media, the more they want to use various methods or tools to identify the authenticity of online information. Second, the more positive the user's attitude towards social media fake news, the more aware of the potential threats social media fake news poses to their own physical, psychological, financial and so on. At the same time, by raising one's own awareness of the dangers, counterintelligence intentions against fake news on social media will also increase. Third, the richer the social capital the user has, the stronger the information literacy, and therefore the stronger the identification intention of social media fake news. Fourth, the higher the value of social capital Chinese users have, the greater the damage they have suffered from fake news, and the higher the risk awareness of fake news to protect their interests. Fifth, it means that Chinese users recognized information suspected of social media and took corresponding measures.

  • This study seeks methods to analyze users' perception in fashion designs shown in social media using textmining analysis methods. The research methods selected 'men's stripe shirts' as subjects and collected texts related to the subject mainly from blogs. Texts from 13,648 posts from November 1st, 2015 to October 31st, 2016 were analyzed by applying the LDA algorithm and content analysis. As a result, the wearing status per season and subjects of men's stripe shirts were derived. Across the entire period, the main topics discussed by users to be pattern, customized suits, brands, coordination and purchase information. In terms of seasons, spring time showed the sharing of information on coordinating daily looks or boyfriend looks, and during the winter season the information shared were about shirts suitable for special occasions such as job interviews and stripe shirts that match suits. The study results showed that text-mining analysis is capable of analyzing the context and provide a user-centered index responding to demands newly mentioned by users along with the rapid changes in fashion design trends.

  • In the third comprehensive library development plan, the formal and informal social safety space function of the library is used as a project. Therefore, this study investigated whether libraries were designated as evacuation facilities and related service status, and librarians' awareness, perception and attitude toward disaster and disaster response services. Based on this, it was intended to propose a direction to activate disaster and disaster response services. The research results are as follows. First, it is necessary to improve the perception of librarians who are the service providers. Second, discussions on spatial aspects, such as temporary or permanent, are needed. Third, development of disaster and disaster-related service models is required. Fourth, the administration's support and management are essential for the effectiveness of the library's function as a social safety space. Fifth, when developing guidelines for the role of libraries as social shelters and related services, specific details to address the concerns of individual libraries and librarians need to be specified.
