In this paper, we propose a Fuzzy Classifier System(FCS) to find a set of fuzzy rules which can carry out the edge detection of a image. The FCS is based on the fuzzy logic system combined with machine learning. Therefore the antecedent and consequent of a classifier in FCS are the same as those of a fuzzy rule. There are two different approaches, Michigan and Pittsburgh approaches, to acquire appropriate fuzzy rules by evolutionary computation. In this paper, we use the Michigan style in which a single fuzzy if-then rule is coded as an individual. Also the FCS employs the Genetic Algorithms to generate new rules and modify rules when performance of the system needs to be improved. The proposed method is evaluated by applying it to the edge detection of a gray-level image that is a pre-processing step of the computer vision. the differences of average gray-level of the each vertical/horizontal arrays of neighborhood pixels are represented into fuzzy sets, and then the center pixel is decided whether it is edge pixel or not using fuzzy if-then rules. We compare the resulting image with a conventional edge image obtained by the other edge detection method such as Sobel edge detection.

This paper presents the application of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Region of Interest (ROI) techniques for concrete crack analysis. Surfaces of concrete structures, such as beams, etc., are exposed to fatigue stress and cyclic loads, typically resulting in the initiation of cracks at a microscopic level on the structure's surface. Early detection enables preventative measures to mitigate potential damage and failures. Conventional manual inspections often yield subpar results, especially for large-scale infrastructure where access is challenging and detecting cracks can be difficult. This paper presents data collection, edge segmentation and ROI techniques application, and analysis of concrete cracks using Convolutional Neural Networks. This paper aims to achieve the following objectives: Firstly, achieving improved accuracy in crack detection using image-based technology compared to traditional manual inspection methods. Secondly, developing an algorithm that utilizes enhanced Sobel edge segmentation and ROI techniques. The algorithm provides automated crack detection capabilities for non-destructive testing.

There is an increasing request for 3D data and outlines on building for urban planning and design. This paper describes an approach to extract building using Digital Surface Models(DSM) and stereo pairs of aerial images. DSM contain informations not only about the topographic surface like Digital Elevation Models(DEM), but also about buildings and other objects higher than the surrounding topographic surface, e.g. tees. We therefore describe our approach consisting of two step procedures. The first step of the approach is to generate DSM by stereo matching using Maximum Likelihood Estimation and Dynamic Programming. The proposed stereo matching is using the cost function for finding the disparity between the left and right image, and the Dynamic Programming for solving the stereo matching problem. The second step is to detect building outlines using the DSM and the edge informations extracted from a digital aerial image by Sobel Operator. The overlay analysis of the DSM and the edge information by Sobel Operator was efficient to detect building outlines.

Potholes are an important clue to the structural defects of asphalt pavement and cause many casualties and property damage. Therefore, accurate pothole detection is an important task in road surface maintenance. Many machine learning technologies are being introduced for pothole detection, and data preprocessing is required to increase the efficiency of deep learning models. In this paper, we propose a preprocessing method that emphasizes important textures and shapes in pothole datasets. The proposed preprocessing method uses intensity transformation to reduce unnecessary elements of the road and emphasize the texture and shape of the pothole. In addition, the feature of the porthole is detected using Superpixel and Sobel edge detection. Through performance comparison between the proposed preprocessing method and the existing preprocessing method, it is shown that the proposed preprocessing method is a more effective method than the existing method in detecting potholes.
A method for edge detection using K-means clustering is proposed in this paper. The method is performed through there steps. Histogram equalizing is applied to the image for the uniformed intensity distribution. Pixels are clustered by K-means clustering technique. Then Sobel mask is applied to detect edges. Experiments showed that this method detected edges better than conventional method.

A computer vision system applied to an intelligent safety vehicle has been required to be worked on a small sized real time special purposed hardware not on a general purposed computer. In addition, the system should have a high reliability even under the adverse road traffic environment. This paper presents a design and an implementation of an onboard hardware system taking into account for high speed image processing to analyze a road traffic scene. The system is mainly composed of two parts: an early processing module of FPGA and a postprocessing module of DSP. The early processing module is designed to extract several image primitives such as the intensity of a gray level image and edge attributes in a real-time Especially, the module is optimized for the Sobel edge operation. The postprocessing module of DSP utilizes the image features from the early processing module for making image understanding or image analysis of a road traffic scene. The performance of the proposed system is evaluated by an experiment of a lane-related information extraction. The experiment shows the successful results of image processing speed of twenty-five frames of 320$\times$240 pixels per second.

Edge detection considers the important technical details of digital image processing. Many edge detection operators already perform edge detection in digital color imaging. In this study, the edge of many real color images that represent the type of digital image was detected using a new operator in the least square approximation method, which is a type of numerical method. The Linear Fitting algorithm is computationally more expensive compared to the Canny, LoG, Sobel, Prewitt, HIS, Fuzzy, Parametric, Synthetic and Vector methods, and Robert' operators. The results showed that the new method can detect an edge in a digital color image with high efficiency compared to standard methods used for edge detection. In addition, the suggested operator is very useful for detecting the edge in a digital color image.
Image quality is improved if the high frequency domains of boundary surface are made distinct. We suggested a method of correcting indistinct defects in ultrasonic images resulting from dynamic imaging. According to the results of the experiment, boundaries in input ultrasonic images became distinct. However, we need to solve the problem that information on pixels of low signal intensity adjacent to boundaries is lost because high-frequency components in the boundaries are strong.

The digital image can be distorted by a noise for a transmission or other elements of system. It happen to be vague of a boundary side in the division of an image object, especially, boundary side of an input image is very important because it can be determined to the division and detection element in pattern recognition. Therefore it is proposed an edge detection method of optimal to divide and detect exactly a boundary part. In this paper, it detected the optimal edge with applying this image to Meyer wavelet-CNN algorithm, after it does level up a boundary side of an image by using the adaptive morphology as the threshold of an input image. It confirmed that the proposed algorithm is more superior to the conventional methods and the conventional Sobel method which is an image edge detection algorithm. Especially, it is confirmed by simulation that the proposed algorithm can be got the better result edge at the place of closing to each edges and having smoothly curved line.

Edge is a significant element to represent boundary information between objects in images. There are various edge detection methods, which are based on differential operation, such as Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts, Canny, Laplacian, and etc. However the conventional methods have drawbacks as follow : (i) insensitivity to edges with gentle curve intensity, (ii) detection of double edges for edges with one pixel width. For the detection of edges, not only development of the effective operators but also that of appropriate thresholding methods are necessary. But it is very complicate problem to find an appropriate threshold. In this paper, we propose an edge detection method based on the region separateness between objects to overcome the drawbacks of the conventional methods, and a thresholding method for the proposed edge detection method. We show the effectiveness of the proposed method through experimental results obtained by applying the proposed and the conventional methods to well-known test images.
