  • This study suggested the planting models of Carpinus turczaninowii community to make in Badahyanggi Arboretum and was carried out to the structure of C. turczaninowii commnity in Daebu-Yeongheung Islands. In order to identify the current ecological environment, this study set to 13 plots(i.e. 100㎡) for analysing detailed structure of plant communities. The research methodology was qualitative analysis. It used TWINSPAN, PCA and Indicator Species Analysis tools which are performed well in several comparisons of classification techniques and one of the ordination techniques showed that the plant communities. The results were classified into 3 communities that C. turczaninowii-Pinus densiflora community(I), C. turczaninowii-Quercus serrata community(II) and C. turczaninowii-Platycarya strobilacea community(III). In all of communities, C. turczaninowii was dominant species in canopy layer and understory layer, the degree of closure was high. Proposed the planting models that are I~II communities based on planting status in Badahyanggi Arboretum(Island Plant Botanical Garden), the structure of plant communities, indicator species and individual distribution by DBH classes. Also, The multi-layer planting plans are necessary, such as P. strobilacea, Lindera erythrocarpa, Viburnum carlesii, V. dilatatum, Ligustrum obtusifolium, Zanthoxylum schinifolium and so on.

  • In vivo animal models are limited in their ability to mimic the extremely complex systems of the human body, and there is increasing disquiet about the ethics of animal research. Many authorities in different geographical areas are considering implementing a ban on animal testing, including testing for cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Therefore, there is a need for research into systems that can replicate the responses of laboratory animals and simulate environments similar to the human body in a laboratory. An in vitro two-dimensional cell culture model is widely used, because such a system is relatively inexpensive, easy to implement, and can gather considerable amounts of reference data. However, these models lack a real physiological extracellular environment. Recent advances in stem cell biology, tissue engineering, and microfabrication techniques have facilitated the development of various 3D cell culture models. These include multicellular spheroids, organoids, and organs-on-chips, each of which has its own advantages and limitations. Organoids are organ-specific cell clusters created by aggregating cells derived from pluripotent, adult, and cancer stem cells. Patient-derived organoids can be used as models of human disease in a culture dish. Biomimetic organ chips are models that replicate the physiological and mechanical functions of human organs. Many organoids and organ-on-a-chips have been developed for drug screening and testing, so competition for patents between countries is also intensifying. We analyzed the scientific and technological trends underlying these cutting-edge models, which are developed for use as non-animal models for testing safety and efficacy at the nonclinical stages of drug development.

  • Conventional Augmented Reality has used data gloves or markers for smooth interaction between objects and background. This causes inconvenience of use and lower immersion. To build up immersion in Augmented Reality, additional input devices must be removed. This paper proposes a method to create virtual space coordinates for interaction without wearing additional input devices so as to improve immersion in Augmented Reality. The acquired image was projected to a two-dimensional space and vanishing lines were extracted to calculate the virtual space coordinates. Then the sizes of the inserted objects were varied in accordance with the size of the virtual coordinates area based on the image projected onto the two-dimensional coordinates. This resulted in improved immersion. This method can increase the efficiency of object creation by excluding the use of a 3D modeler for creation of three-dimensional objects.

  • The seed of Vigna angularis (Ohwi) Ohwi & Ohashi (= Phaseolus angularis W. F. Wight, Leguminosae) is one of well-known folk foodstuffs in Korea, China and Japan. In the course of screening for antioxidants from natural plants in Korea by measuring the radical scavenging effect on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) a methanol extract of the seeds of V. angularis were found to show a potent antioxidant activity. And the ethyl acetate soluble fraction of V. angularis (VAEA) showed the most potent DPPH radical scavenging and superoxide quenching activities. To reveal the effect of antioxidant activities of VAEA, we tested the thermal and oxidative stress tolerances, activities of SOD and catalase, and intracellular ROS level in Caenorhabditis elegans. Consequently, VAEA-fed worms lived longer than control worms under the thermal and oxidative stress conditions. And VAEA elevated SOD and catalase activities of worms, and reduced intracellular ROS accumulation in a dose-dependent manner.

  • Chronic pulmonary artery thromboembolism is a relatively rare phenomenon causing hypoxia and pulmonary hypertension that eventually leads to respiratory failure and right heart failure. Patients with acute pulmonary artery thromboembolism are generally treated with antithrombotics and thrombolytics. However, in cases with chronic pulmonary artery thromboembolism the fibrinized thrombus is so strongly adhered to the pulmonary artery wall that medical treatment becomes ineffective and surgical treatment must then be considered. We report a 47year old patient, with a history of repeated admission due to unresolved chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and chronic pulmonary artery thromboembolism at a local hospital, who underwent a successful endarterectomy of pulmonary artery thromboemboli using intermittent total circulatory arrest.

  • A general goal of the AT%(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) network is to support connect across various network. On ATM networks, ABR services are provided using the remained ban after allocation CBR and VBR traffic. Realtime services such as transmitting audio or video data may be provided using CBR ado VBR which have a constrained transmission delay, but in these cases, the communications bandwidth may be wasted. In this paper a simulation has been performed to compare and evaluate the performance between the ERICA(Explicit Rate Indicate Avoidance) and EPRCA(Enhanced Proportional Rate Control Algorithm) switches which use Explicit Rate switch algorithm for ABR switch. The variation of the ACR at the source end system, the queue length, the utilization rate of the link bandwidth and the share fairness at the transient and steady states are used as the evaluation criteria for the simulation. As a result of simulation, ERICA algorithm switch was ten times long compared to ERPCA switch to achieve assigned fair share. so EPRCA switch is superior to ERICA about load response. For Fair share and stability, ERICA switch is excellent to EPRCA switch.

  • Objective: This study aims to analyze the characteristics of airborne radon and thoron level ($Bq/m^3$) generated from household products containing monazites, and estimate the effective doses (mSv/yr). Method: Radon & Thoron detector EQF3220 was used to monitor real-time airborne radon and thoron level ($Bq/m^3$), and their daughters ($Bq/m^3$) were recorded every two hours. Effective doses (mSv/yr) for radon and thoron were estimated according to models developed by International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) and United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR). Results: The average levels of radon and thoron were $87.8Bq/m^3$ (range; $20.8-156.3Bq/m^3$) and $1,347.5Bq/m^3$ (range; $4-5,839.7Bq/m^3$), respectively. The average equilibrium factors (F) were 0.23 and 0.007, respectively. The levels of radon progeny were far higher than that thoron. Latex mattress showed the highest F (0.38). The average effective doses were estimated to be ICRP (1.9 mSv/yr) and UNSCER (1.3 mSv/yr) for radon and UNSCEAR (1.6 mSv/yr) for thoron. Conclusions: Our results have far exceeded the allowable effective dose for general population (1 mSv/yr). The government's actions such as the ban of use of consumer products containing monazite and the establishment of surveillance system to evaluate health effects for the people affected should be taken as early as possible.

  • This paper presents a method to deice concrete pavement with carbon nanotube(CNT) as an heating material so as to avoid the adverse effects of conventional deicing method such as salt on the structure, function and environment. To this end, laboratory tests integrated with numerical simulations were conducted. In the laboratory tests, the CNT was embedded inside the concrete slab and generated the heat up to the target temperature of $60^{\circ}C$ in the freezer at temperature of $-10^{\circ}C$. Then, the surface temperature was measured to investigate how far the heat transfers on the surface at temperature of above $0^{\circ}C$. Also, three different spacings of 15, 20 and 30cm between CNTs were conducted to determine the maximum allowable spacing of CNT. Along with these experimental tests, heat transferring analysis conducted to validate the test results.
