  • Snapping triceps syndrome is a rare condition in which a distal portion of triceps and ulnar nerve dislocate over the medial epicondyle as the elbow is flexed or extended from flexed position. Because it is frequently misdiagnosed as other elbow pathologies, accurate diagnosis is essential and imaging study is often needed to confirm the abnormal movement of ulnar nerve and triceps. Ultraonography is a convenient and effective method which is able to allow continual visualization of soft tissue movement compared to the other imaging modality including MRI. We reported one patient of snapping triceps syndrome who was diagnosed with the use of dynamic ultrasonography and treated with ulna nerve anterior transposition and repositioning of medial head of triceps. And we also provide the usefulness of musculoskeletal ultrasonography for the diagnosis of snapping triceps syndrome.

  • Discoid lateral menisci were common morphological anomaly and several classifications were proposed. Watanabe et al classified all discoid menisci, as seen arthroscopically, into three types 1) complete 2) incomplete and 3) Wrisberg ligament type. The purpose of this study is to report a rare case of both painful snapping knee joints in 6 year-old female. On arthroscopic examination, complete lateral discoid meniscus which consisted of taut Wrisberg ligament and intact tibial insertion of posterior horn was found, and abnormal anterior cruciate ligament(ACL) which has expanded femoral origin over the posterior articular surface of lateral femoral condyle was also found. At the time of arthroscopic surgery, hypertrophied high-riding Wrisberg ligament was resected, and expanded femoral origin of the anterior cruciate ligament was partially resected nearly to normal margin, and discoid lateral meniscus was saucerized. After these procedures, abnormal snapping sound was disappeared in full range of motion. On the follow-up examination after 1 year, pain and snapping sound were disappeared and any instability and limping were not found.

  • Snapping triceps syndrome is a rare disease in which medial head of triceps dislocates over the medial epicondyle during elbow flexion. It is difficult to diagnose the snapping triceps syndrome, because that this syndrome is frequently misdiagnosed as other elbow disease such as ulnarnerve dislocation. The dynamic ultrasonographic imaging allows continual visualization of the ulnar nerve and triceps muscle throughout active elbow flexion and extension. We report two patients of snapping triceps syndrome who were diagnosed with the use of dynamic ultrasonography and treated with ulnar nerve anterior transposition and repositioning or resectioning of medial head of triceps.

  • The dynamic instability for snapping phenomena has been studied by many researchers. Few paper deal with the dynamic bucking under the load with periodic characteristics, and the behavior under periodic excitation is expected the different behavior against STEP excitation. We investigate the fundamental mechanisms of dynamic instability when shallow EP(Elliptic Paraboliodal) shell of two degree of freedom are subjected to sinusoidal excitation with direct snapping and indirect snapping. By using Newmark-$\beta$ method, we can get the nonlinear response, and characteristics of the dynamic instability through the running response spectrum by FFT(fast Fourier Transform) and attractors are compared in the phase plane. Dynamic buckling loads are strongly influenced by the relationships between the natural frequency of structures and the dominant frequency of incident excitations.

  • In this paper, extreme tensions in a snapping cable are studied and systematic parameter studies are made in the selected cable using the clipping-off model. The anticipation of incipient clipping frequencies of a cable are of use in giving an indication of the behavior of cables for marine applications in which large dynamic tension build-up in rough seas may cause the total tension to become negative.

  • This paper proposes Snapping Shrimp Noise (SSN) detection and corrupted Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) reconstruction methods to increase Bit Error Rate (BER) performance when OFDM transmitted signal is corrupted by impulsive SSNs in underwater acoustic communications. The proposed detection method utilizes multilayer wavelet packet decomposition for detecting impulsive and irregularly concentrated and SSN energy in specific frequency bands of SSN, and the proposed reconstruction scheme uses iterative decision directed-subcarrier reconstruction to recover corrupted OFDM signals using multiple carrier characteristics. Computer simulations were executed to show receiver operating characteristics curve for the detection performance and BER for the reconstruction. The practical ocean experiment of SAVEX 15 demonstrated that the proposed method exhibits a better detection performance compared with conventional detection method and improves BER by 250% and 1230% for uncoded and coded data, respectively, compared with the conventional reconstruction scheme.

  • A common snapping turtle Chelydra serpentina inhabiting North America is internationally protected as an endangered species. It is known that the individuals of common snapping turtles were imported to South Korea as pets, and after being abandoned, some inhabit the natural ecosystem of South Korea like wild animals. No genetic survey has yet been performed for the common snapping turtles imported to South Korea. Hereby, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) information, which is 594 bp long, was determined for a total of 16 C. serpentina individuals, of which one was found in nature, twelve legally imported and their descendants, and the other three were provided from the Kansas Herpetological Society, USA. The obtained data were combined with thirteen COI sequences of C. serpentina retrieved from NCBI GenBank for the subsequent population genetic analyses. The results showed that there exist five haplotypes with high sequence similarity (only three parsimoniously informative sites). In the TCS and phylogenetic analyses, all the examined C. serpentina samples coincidently formed a strong monoclade with those collected mostly from Kansas State, USA, indicating that the imported ones to South Korea are from the central North America. In addition, there found the amino acid changes and the high degree of nucleotide sequence differences between C. serpentina and C. rossignoni with some important morphological characters. It is expected that the present results could provide an important framework for systematic management and control of exotic snapping turtles imported and released to nature of South Korea.

  • The first three zoeal stages of fat-handed snapping shrimp Synalpheus tumodomanus (Paulson, 1875) are described and illustrated in detail based on laboratory-reared material. Morphological comparison is made with previous description of S. tumidomanus from Indian waters. Three segmented scale of the antenna and the length of the endopod of antenna readily distinguish the first zoeas of S. tumidomanus from those of S. neomeris, the other known species of the genus Synalpheus from Korea.
