  • High-rise buildings with stack effect caused by the foreclosure, which significantly delayed the spread of a fire in effects of these stack effect driving force said. In this research on the stack effect of the lobby if the pressurization of the stairwell analysis of the pressure distribution of the CONTAMW. Overall, the pressurization of the lobby makes it stairwell amount of pressure(+) to the zone in pressure designed to prevent the spread of smoke control performance and found that, the way a normal state and sub-pressurization in the stairwell with stack effect of the turbulence Such as the formation of the upper flow, but, in the upper atmosphere with pressurization was formed by the underlying trend.

  • The present study performed numerical investigation to analyze the smoke behavior in the rescue station by using the commercial CFD code (FLUENT Ver 6.3). The present study adopted a 10MW ultrafast mode for simulation, and it also used the MVHS(Modify Volumetric Heat Source) model modified from the original VHS(Volumetric Heat Source) model in order to treat the product generation and the oxygen consumption under the stoichiometric state. In addition, the present simulation includes the species conservation equation for the materialization of heat source and the estimation of smoke movement. From the results, the smoke flows are moving along the ceiling because of thermal buoyancy force and as time goes, the smoke gradually moves downward at the vicinity of the entrance. Moreover, without using ventilation, it is found that the smoke flows no longer spread across the cross-passages because the pressure in the non-accident tunnel is higher than that in the accident tunnel.

  • We have performed the inflammability test for various flooring materials through a radiant heat panel tester by using the specification KSISO 9239-1 (an examination method of flooring materials) that has been set as an international standard for the fire prevention means of interior flooring materials. We have measured the flame spread distance, critical heat flux and smoke density generated by the fire of various flooring materials while using the radiant heat panel tester. The measurement result has shown the burning characteristics different from each other by the respective flooring materials and we could see that the surface materials and construction elements influence greatly on the heat release and smoke generation. We could see that the evaluation method above is an important test method in evaluating the critical heat flux, smoke generation and flame spread distance that are Important factors in studying for fire risks and it is judged that setting and applying a fire evaluation method of flooring materials suitable for the domestic construction use would be relevant.

  • In this study, the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) has been used to analyze the smoke movement and the carbon monoxide concentration distribution, both vertically and longitudinally, in a compartment, based on conservation laws. The Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) developed by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) was used for numerical simulations using Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS) model to solve for time-averaged properties. Results show, as a function of time, a detailed distribution of temperature and carbon monoxide concentration changing against the height above the floor and those changes alongside the distance away from the fire source. Fire-induced smoke and toxic gases like CO are more dangerous in a confined space. The result of study may contribute in designing the smoke evacuation system based on the precise tenable condition.

  • In this study effects of the natural wind and the forced smoke ejection by operating the exhaust fan are studied numerically to examine the flow characteristics of the smoke and heat generated from a fire on the platform of an underground subway station. Three different situations, including 1) the case with no natural wind and no exhaust fan operation, 2) the case with natural wind but no exhaust fan operation and 3) the case with no natural wind but exhaust fan operation, are considered for the numerical analyses. The numerical results show that the natural wind causes a rapid spread of the fire along the tunnel resulting in rapid spread of the smoke and heat over the platform which affects the escape. The operation of the exhaust fan also results in the rapid spread of smoke and heat over the platform, but the time required for reaching the safe escaping height of the smoke layer with the exhaust fan operation is much longer than that without the exhaust fan operation. The numerical results also show that the required capacity of the exhaust fan becomes larger when the effect of the natural wind is included.

  • In this paper, We proposed a realtime smoke detection using hidden markov model and DWT. The smoke type is not clear. The color of the smoke, form, spread direction, etc., are characterized by varying the environment. Therefore, smoke detection using specific information has a high error rate detection. Dynamic Object Detection was used a robust foreground extraction method to environmental changes. Smoke recognition is used to integrate the color, shape, DWT energy information of the detected object. The proposed method is a real-time processing by having the average processing speed of 30fps. The average detection time is about 7 seconds, it is possible to detect early rapid.

  • In this study, we used the program of three-dimensional analysis of fire for analyzing visibility of smoke flow and temperature of the accommodation area what is required for the analysis of survival of the crew. In particular, I would like to propose a method for reducing the flow rate performance in order to reduce the suffocation from the smoke of the majority of personal injury. Existing vessels are designed to close the fire door automatically when the fire alarm issued. When there is no crew that dared to escape, it can delay the spread of fire and smoke flow which is determined to be very useful to improve the survival rate of the crew. However, it can be fatal to the crew whose rooms are located on the inside of the fire door that has not completed the evacuation. In this study, we check the smoke flow rate and rate of temperature rise when crew open the fire door what is closed due to fire and compare to the structure of the blocking layer.

  • In this paper, The experimental materials of painted fire resistant paint on substrate, FRP, PVC, AL and stainless steel that fire resistant paint developed newly were evaluated as the hazard elements : the fire resistibility of the materials, fire spread test of flame, the oxygen index, flammability, the smoke density. the toxicity index from it when it burned. As a result of the experiments, the AL and the stainless steel were passed of fire resistant class 1, the FRP, the AL, and the stainless steel were ignited of fire spread test of flame, all the experimental materials showed about $50\%$ of oxygen index, V-0 of flammability, and 43-338 of maximum smoke density at flaming mode used smoke density chamber. Also, they showed that the toxicity index of combustion products were 0.57-1.12.

  • In foreign country such as USA and Japan, considerable research has been done regarding the spread of smoke in room of fire involvement by using computer. but, in our country it has not been, so, this paper presents a detailed qualitative description of phenomena which occure during typical fire scenarios through numberical analysis. The governing equations are solved by using FVM method with non-staggered grid. The SIMPLE method for pressure-velocity couple and power-law scheme for convention terms are used. It shows that a plume is formed, hot plume gases impinge on the ceiling and they spread across it. then, it eventually reaches the bounding walls of the enclosure. It takes 20s for smoke to fill the enclosure.

  • This paper is for response feature of fire detectors not only to analysis response feature of fire detector, but also to observe flame spread of inside-building and fire enlargement by using the row house which is supposed to be broken up. Many kinds of popular detectors such as heat type detector(differential type, fixed temperature type, Analogue type)and smoke type(light scattered type, Analogue type, single alarm type) were installed in the house in order to check for the change of temperature by installing of thermocouples. As a result, smoke detectors are better than heat detectors when it comes to making effective fire-detect system in the row house.
