Recently, many researches have been conducted to improve the performance and wearability of smart wearables. In this study, we designed and fabricated the signal and power transmission textile cables for smart wearables which have excellent wearability, durability and reliability. For the signal transmission textile cables, conductive yarns for the signal line and the ground line were developed. Three types of signal transmission textile cables have been developed using the conductive yarns. Linear density, tensile properties, electrical resistance and RF characteristics were tested to characterize the physical and electrical properties of three signal transmission textile cables. The conductive yarns have the very low resistance of $0.05{\Omega}/cm$ and showed excellent uniformity of electric resistance. Therefore, the electrical resistance of the signal transmission fiber cable can be reduced by increasing the number of conductive yarns used in signal and ground lines. However, the radio frequency (RF) characteristics of the signal transmission textile cables were better as the number of strands of the conductive yarns used was smaller. This is because the smaller the number of strands of conductive yarn used in signal transmission textile cables, the narrower and more parallel the distance between the signal line and the ground line. It is expected that the signal and power transmission textile cable for signal and power transmission will be utilized in smart wearable products.
Instructional contents are used to demonstrate a technical process to teach and walkthrough certain procedures to carry out a task. This type of informational content is widely used for teaching and lectures in form of tutorial videos and training videos. Since there are questions and uncertainties for what could be the killer application for the novel wearables, we propose a self-instruction training application on a smart glass to utilize already-available instruction videos as well as public open data in creative ways. We design and implement a prototype application to help users train by wearing smart glasses specifically designed for two concrete and hand-constrained use cases where the user's hands need to be free to operate. To increase the efficiency and feasibility of the self-instruction training, we contribute to the development of a wearable killer application by integrating a voice-based user interface using speech recognizer, public open data APIs, and timestamp-based procedural content navigation structure into our proof-of-concept application.

Wearable devices, attached to the human body, track and enhance users' activities, health, and communication. Therefore, considering ergonomic factors in product design is crucial. However, previous research has somewhat overlooked the importance of integrating ergonomic design elements into a broad spectrum of design factors. This study aims to examine the impact of physical attributes inherent in smart wristbands and smartwatches on the perceived functional value, specifically, perceived usefulness, ease of use, and fit. A survey was conducted among 289 US adults who had experience using smart wristbands or smartwatches. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Cronbach's alpha, t-test, MANOVA, and regression analysis in SPSS version 29. The results showed that the shape of the front display significantly influenced perceived ease of use, and the product's weight had a substantial impact on both perceived ease of use and fit. Furthermore, distinct technical features on the front display had varied effects on perceived usefulness, ease of use, and fit. Notably, the presence of activity tracking, alarm, and calendar functionalities led to distinct differences in ease of use and fit. Features such as distance tracking, phone call, social media notifications, text messaging, and time display functions showed significant influences on the perception of fit. These findings provide insights into the physical values of smart wristbands and smartwatches as perceived by users.

In this study, the soft textile actuator is produced for a smart wearable with the shape memory effects from linear shape memory alloys of Nickel and Titanium using the driving force through the fabrication process. The measurement model was designed to measure dynamic characteristics. The heating method, and memory shape of the linear shape memory alloy were set to measure the operating temperature. A shape memory alloy at 40.13℃, was used to heat the alloy with a power supply for the selective operation and rapid reaction speed. The required amount of current was obtained by calculating the amount of heat and (considering the prevention of overheating) set to 1.3 A. The fabrication process produced a soft textile actuator using a stitching technique for linear shape memory alloys at 0.5 mm intervals in the general fabric. The dynamic characteristics of linear shape memory alloys and actuators were measured and compared. For manufactured soft textile actuators, up to 0.8 N, twice the force of the single linear shape memory alloy, 0.38 N, and the response time was measured at 50 s.

We propose a FPGA based design that performs real-time power-efficient analysis of heterogeneous sensor data using adaptive ANN on edge gateway of smart military wearables. In this work, four independent ANN classifiers are developed with optimum topologies. Out of which human activity, BP and toxic gas classifier are multiclass and ECG classifier is binary. These classifiers are later integrated into a single adaptive ANN hardware with a select line(s) that switches the hardware architecture as per the sensor type. Five versions of adaptive ANN with different precisions have been synthesized into IP cores. These IP cores are implemented and tested on Xilinx Artix-7 FPGA using Microblaze test system and LabVIEW based sensor simulators. The hardware analysis shows that the adaptive ANN even with 8-bit precision is the most efficient IP core in terms of hardware resource utilization and power consumption without compromising much on classification accuracy. This IP core requires only 31 microseconds for classification by consuming only 12 milliwatts of power. The proposed adaptive ANN design saves 61% to 97% of different FPGA resources and 44% of power as compared with the independent implementations. In addition, 96.87% to 98.75% of data throughput reduction is achieved by this edge gateway.

Herein, a highly elastic e-textile band with a two-wire transmission line was designed and fabricated for smart clothing applications. A conductive yarn with a very uniform low electrical resistance of 0.0357 Ω/cm was developed and used for the signal and ground lines. To control the elasticity of the e-textile band, spandex yarns were added in the warp direction during knitting and the tension was adjusted. As the length of the e-textile band increased, its RF performance deteriorated. Furthermore, the frequency corresponding to -3 dB S21 was lower in the 30% stretched band than in the unstretched band. For the e-textile bands with lengths 10, 50, and 100 cm, the frequencies corresponding to -3 dB S21 were 107.77, 24.56, and 13.02 MHz when not stretched, and 88.74, 22.02, and 12.60 MHz when stretched by 30%. The fabricated bands were flatter, more flexible, and more elastic than transmission line cables; thus, they can be easily integrated into wearables and smart clothing. However, to increase RF performance and achieve optimum utilization, future studies must focus on the fabrication of transmission lines with lower resistance and reduced distance between the signal and ground lines, and thus the number of transmission lines can be increased.

This study presents and develops a textile type touch sensor structural design that is easy to implement. First, the design of the touch sensor circuit finds the size of the switch with the easiest finger contact and selects a structure with a long circuit with the lowest resistance value. An experiment is performed on a change in an electrostatic capacitance value that accompanies the distance on the electrode and the magnitude of the electrode area of the structure; however, the structure having the distance on the electrode and the large electrode area shows the best resistance change. The laundry assessment was conducted three times at a time and ten times at a time with an average standard deviation less than one ohm, with little change in resistance. Consequently, there were no problems with durability and performance for laundry. Finally, in the bending evaluation, the difference in resistance can be seen between 1-2 ohms and was developed as a smart wearable in the future; in addition, there was no problem as a difference in resistance can be seen between 1 and 2 ohms.
This study aimed to produce fiber stretch sensors for smart soccer socks to prevent injuries during training. A sensor was manufactured with stretchable fabric and tested to ensure convenience during training. In order to manufacture the fiber stretch sensor, a CNT dispersion solution was applied to an e-band and elastic polyester fabric, and the performance of the sensors was evaluated by a tensile test. Performance evaluation showed that both of the tested fabrics are excellent for this purpose. Both sensors were attached to socks to create prototype wearable devices, and an experiment was conducted to determine whether a resistance change accompanying relaxation and contraction of the gastrocnemius muscle could be detected. In order to accurately evaluate performance as a sensor, the fabric was stretched 20 times at low speeds of 1 Hz and 0.5 Hz. A change in resistance due to tension was observed, with both the E-band and the stretchable poly fabric showing high sensitivity and high reproducibility. Both can be used as relaxation/contraction sensors. Smart soccer socks were made using the two materials, and an evaluation was conducted. Tensile tests were done on the smart soccer socks; the tests were done 20 times per sock, and the sensor showed a stable resistance change between 30 and 40 ohms depending on the tension of the sensor. As a result, we confirmed that smart soccer socks with stretch sensors made of E-bands can measure changes in the gastrocnemius muscle.
The purpose of this study was to develop smart bags that combining fashion-specific trends and smart information technologies such as light-emitting diodes(LED) and optic fibers by grafting marquage techniques that have recently become popular as part of eco-fashion. We applied e-textiles by designing leather tote bags that could show off LED luminescence. A total of two tote bags, a white-colored peacock design and a black-colored paisley design, divided the LED's light-emitting method into two types, incremental lighting and random light-emission to suit each design, and the locations of the optical fibers were also reversed depending upon the design. The production of circuits for the LEDs and optical fibers was based on the design, and a flexible conductive fabric was laser-cut instead of wire line and attached to the circuit-line location. A separate connector was underwent three-dimensional(3D)-modeling and was connected to high-luminosity LEDs and optic fiber bundles. The optical fiber logo part expressed a subtle image using a white-colored LED, which did not offset the LED's sharp luminous effects, suggesting that using LEDs with fiber optics allowed for the expression of each in harmony without being heterogeneous. Overall, the LEDs and fiber optic fabric were well-harmonized in the fashion bag using marquage techniques, and there was no sense of it being a mechanical device. Also, the circuit part was made of conductive fabric, which is an e-textile product that feels the same as a thin, flexible fabric. The study confirmed that the bag was developed as a smart wearable product that could be used in everyday life.

This paper examines the wearable technology in two aspects. First, it is the desire that permeates the clothes that smart technology is embroidered. Second, it is a reflection on the gaze that looks at the user wearing clothes. This article is a study on clothes that will be newly appeared with wearable technology. But this is not just a technical issue. Rather, it is a system design that takes human instinct into clothes. Therefore, this study encompasses social scientific boundaries. This article does not refer to data collected from wearables as simple sensing based data. Rather, wearable technology reveals human life activities and emotions. This paper is an attempt to combine or combine humanities and technology.
