  • Objectives: This paper describes an experience of implementing seamless service trials online and offline by adopting Internet of Things (IoT) technology based on near-field communication (NFC) tags and Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) beacons. The services were provided for both patients and health professionals. Methods: The pilot services were implemented to enhance healthcare service quality, improve patient safety, and provide an effective business process to health professionals in a tertiary hospital in Seoul, Korea. The services to enhance healthcare service quality include healing tours, cancer information/education, psychological assessments, indoor navigation, and exercise volume checking. The services to improve patient safety are monitoring of high-risk inpatients and delivery of real-time health information in emergency situations. In addition, the services to provide an effective business process to health professionals include surveys and web services for patient management. Results: Considering the sustainability of the pilot services, we decided to pause navigation and patient monitoring services until the interference problem could be completely resolved because beacon signal interference significantly influences the quality of services. On the other hand, we had to continue to provide new wearable beacons to high-risk patients because of hygiene issues, so the cost increased over time and was much higher than expected. Conclusions: To make the smart connected hospital services sustainable, technical feasibility (e.g., beacon signal interference), economic feasibility (e.g., continuous provision of new necklace beacons), and organizational commitment and support (e.g., renewal of new alternative medical devices and infrastructure) are required.

  • U-healthcare system supports healthcare service of prevention, diagnosis, medical treatment and currently various medical service systems. Therefore, utilization of medical information thru hospitals, medical agencies is unevitable in this society. However, the standard draft of HL7 which is a standard of medical information does not support specification of medical information being used currently. Thus, in this paper, we study standard HL7 message system to analyze and adjust the medical information and it will help to utilize efficient medical information and the method is verified to be sufficiently effective.

This study try to analyze what is the most necessary and important the AI smart housing services for the housing disadvantaged persons through a survey of experts and the housing disadvantaged persons. And by collecting these necessary and important services, we aim to present elements and directions for the AI smart housing services policy for the housing disadvantaged persons. Methods: Firstly, we asked 11 experts, Secondly, the desire and necessity for the above smart housing service was identified through an online survey targeting the housing disadvantaged persons. Thirdly, the survey was analyzed and reliability was measured through descriptive statistical analysis using SPSS program. Fourthly, based on the results of descriptive statistics analysis, the necessity and importance of AI smart housing services from the perspective of the housing disadvantaged were derived. Results: The results of this study are that firstly, both experts and the housing disadvantaged persons viewed safety and health-related services as the most important and necessary among AI smart housing services, secondly, there is a difference in perspectives on the services that should be priority between experts and people with disabilities, and lastly there are differences in perspectives and needs for services that should be priority between the disabled and the elderly.

  • Smart healthcare systems, a convergent industry based on information and communications technologies (ICT), has emerged from personal health management to remote medical treatment as a distinguished industry. The smart healthcare environment provides technology to deliver vital information, such as pulse rate, body temperature, health status, and so on, from wearable devices to the hospital network where the physician is located. However, since it deals with the patient's personal medical information, there is a security issue for personal information management, and the system may be vulnerable to cyber-attacks in wireless networks. Therefore, this study focuses on a key-development and device-management system to generate keys in the smart environment to safely manage devices. The protocol is designed to provide safe communications with the generated key and to manage the devices, as well as the generated key. The security level is analyzed against attack methods that may occur in a healthcare environment, and it was compared with existing key methods and coding capabilities. In the performance evaluation, we analyze the security against attacks occurring in a smart healthcare environment, and the security and efficiency of the existing key encryption method, and we confirmed an improvement of about 15%, compared to the existing cipher systems.

  • The developments in mobile technology and the increase in the production of smartphones have led to the growth of the mobile healthcare market. Moreover, the number of mobile healthcare apps is on the rise, and users are benefiting from using healthcare, exercise tracking, and body monitoring apps, as well as they have been searching for health information through mobile health apps. This paper evaluated the usability of a symptom checker application that provides information on diseases, treatment methods, and related hospitals through self-diagnosis of symptoms. Symptom checkers are currently being developed, and are widely used overseas. This paper sought to evaluate the usability of a symptom checker app, and suggested ways to introduce enhancements.

  • In this paper, we analyze and simulate performance of space time block coded (STBC) binary pulse amplitude modulation-direct sequence (BPAM-DS) ultra-wideband (UWB) systems with double binary turbo code in indoor environments for various ubiquitous healthcare (u-healthcare) applications. Indoor wireless channel is modeled as a modified Saleh and Valenzuela (SV) model proposed as a UWB indoor channel model by the IEEE 802.15.SG3a in July 2003. In the STBC encoding process, an Alamouti algorithm for real-valued signals is employed because UWB signals have the type of real signal constellation. It is assumed that the transmitter has knowledge about channel state information. From simulation results, it is shown that the STBC scheme does not have an influence on improving bit error probability performance of the BPAM-DS UWB systems. It is also confirmed that the results of this paper can be applicable for u-healthcare applications.

  • This study explores the integration of Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) and network science in healthcare, focusing on enhancing healthcare data interpretation and improving diagnostic and treatment methods. Key methodologies like Graph Neural Networks, Community Detection, Overlapping Network Models, and Time-Series Network Analysis are examined in depth for their potential in patient health management. The research highlights the transformative role of XAI in making complex AI models transparent and interpretable, essential for accurate, data-driven decision-making in healthcare. Case studies demonstrate the practical application of these methodologies in predicting diseases, understanding drug interactions, and tracking patient health over time. The study concludes with the immense promise of these advancements in healthcare, despite existing challenges, and underscores the need for ongoing research to fully realize the potential of AI in this field.

  • We are entering a phase of an aged society. The societal expense on health care for the so called "silver generation", which refer to as those over the age of 65 is increasing. Although many companies provide various services based on information technology for the health of the silver generation, many have pointed out the limits of them, preventing the activation of services. This study tries to develop a new smart health band business model, which is the most common form of healthcare service that reflects the user's desire. To do this, the study will cover the smart health band and the technical functions related to it, as well as the elements of the business model and its content.
