This paper presents a multi-functional system, consisting of a magnetorheological (MR) damper and an electromagnetic induction (EMI) device, and its applications in stay cables. The proposed system is capable of offering multiple functions: (1) mitigating excessive vibrations of cables, (2) estimating cable tension, and (3) harvesting energy for wireless sensors used health monitoring of cable-stayed bridges. In the proposed system, the EMI device, consisting of permanent magnets and a solenoid coil, can converts vibration energy into electrical energy (i.e., induced emf); hence, it acts as an energy harvesting system. Moreover, the cable tension can be estimated by using the emf signals obtained from the EMI device. In addition, the MR damper, whose damping property is controlled by the harvested energy from the EMI device, can effectively reduce excessive cable vibrations. In this study, the multi-functionality of the proposed system is experimentally evaluated by conducting a shaking table test as well as a full-scale stay cable in a laboratory setting. In the shaking table experiment, the energy harvesting capability of the EMI device for wireless sensor nodes is investigated. The performance on the cable tension estimation and the vibration mitigation are evaluated using the full-scale cable test setup. The test results show that the proposed system can sufficiently generate and store the electricity for operating a wireless sensor node twice per day, significantly alleviate vibration of a stay cable (by providing about 20% larger damping compared to the passive optimal case), and estimate the cable tension accurately within a 2.5% error.
This paper describes the application of a wireless sensor network to a 31 meter-tall medieval tower located in the city of Trento, Italy. The effort is motivated by preservation of the integrity of a set of frescoes decorating the room on the second floor, representing one of most important International Gothic artworks in Europe. The specific application demanded development of customized hardware and software. The wireless module selected as the core platform allows reliable wireless communication at low cost with a long service life. Sensors include accelerometers, deformation gauges, and thermometers. A multi-hop data collection protocol was applied in the software to improve the system's flexibility and scalability. The system has been operating since September 2008, and in recent months the data loss ratio was estimated as less than 0.01%. The data acquired so far are in agreement with the prediction resulting a priori from the 3-dimensional FEM. Based on these data a Bayesian updating procedure is employed to real-time estimate the probability of abnormal condition states. This first period of operation demonstrated the stability and reliability of the system, and its ability to recognize any possible occurrence of abnormal conditions that could jeopardize the integrity of the frescos.
To launch the product recently attached to IoT consumer electronics, smart phones and healthcare products around the large companies is a trend that is growing interest in the IoT. However, the country's small business environment is what the environmental improvement process that is easily accessible to the small business environment because the IoT technologies are difficult to apply the IoT technologies than any other country environment than desperate situation. In this paper, we propose a service operating model to improve production efficiency when the fusion manufacturing process is currently operating in the country SMEs and IoT technology. Proposed model using the manufacturing product information and sensor / dabayiseu information in the entire manufacturing process has as its object to utilize the IoT technology. Performance evaluation, the proposed model is more efficient than the previous model and 23.1% of the manufacturing process. In addition, it is increasing the manufacturing process was reduced by 17.3%, the average processing time as compared to the previous model. Finally, the personnel cost to be used in the manufacturing process was found to be an average decrease of 19.8% than previous model.

This paper presents the determination method of the hybrid energy storage capacity for compensating the output of wind power when disconnecting from the grid. In the wind power output compensation, a lot of charging and discharging time with lithium-ion battery will be deteriorated the life time. And also, this fluctuation will cause some problems of the power quality and power system stability. To solve these kind of problems, many researchers in the world have been studied with BESS(Battery Energy Storage System) in the wind farm. But, BESS has the limitation of its output during very short term period, this means that it is difficult to compensate the very short term output of wind farm. Using the EDLC (Electric Double Layer Capacitor), it is possible to solve the problem. Installing the battery system in the wind farm, it will be possible to decrease the total capacity of BESS consisting of HESS (Hybrid Energy Storage System). This paper shows simulation results when not only BESS is connected to wind farm but also to HESS. To verify the proposed system, results of computer simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC program with actual output data of wind farms of Jeju Island will be presented.

Mobile data caching is usually used as an effective way to improve the speed of local transaction processing and reduce server load. In mobile database environment, due to its characters - low bandwidth, excessive latency and intermittent network, caching is especially crucial. A lot of mobile data caching strategies have been proposed to handle these problems over the last few years. However, with smart phone widely application these approaches cannot support vast data requirements efficiently. In this paper, to make full use of cache data, lower wireless transmission quantity and raise transaction success rate, we design a new mobile data caching synchronization strategy based on in-demand and replacement priority. We experimentally verify that our techniques significantly reduce quantity of wireless transmission and improve transaction success rate, especially when mobile client request a large amount of data.

In this paper, we examine the role of emotional acoustic cues including both prosody and voice quality parameters for the modification of a word sense. For the extraction of prosody parameters and voice quality parameters, we used 60 pieces of speech data spoken by six speakers with five different emotional states. We analyzed eight different emotional acoustic cues, and used a discriminant analysis technique in order to find the dominant sequence of acoustic cues. As a result, we found that anger has a close relation with intensity level and 2nd formant bandwidth range; joy has a relative relation with the position of 2nd and 3rd formant values and intensity level; sadness has a strong relation only with prosody cues such as intensity level and pitch level; and fear has a relation with pitch level and 2nd formant value with its bandwidth range. These findings can be used as the guideline for find-tuning an emotional spoken language generation system, because these distinct sequences of acoustic cues reveal the subtle characteristics of each emotional state.
For structural damage detection of shear buildings, this paper proposes a new concept using structural element mass-stiffness vector (SEMV) based on special mass and stiffness distribution characteristics. A corresponding damage identification method is developed combining the SEMV with the cross-model cross-mode (CMCM) model updating algorithm. For a shear building, a model is assumed at the beginning based on the building's distribution characteristics. The model is updated into two models corresponding to the healthy and damaged conditions, respectively, using the CMCM method according to the modal parameters of actual structure identified from the measured acceleration signals. Subsequently, the structural SEMV for each condition can be calculated from the updated model using the corresponding stiffness and mass correction factors, and then is utilized to form a new feature vector in which each element is calculated by dividing one element of SEMV in health condition by the corresponding element of SEMV in damage condition. Thus this vector can be viewed as a damage detection feature for its ability to identify the mass or stiffness variation between the healthy and damaged conditions. Finally, a numerical simulation and the laboratory experimental data from a test-bed structure at the Los Alamos National Laboratory were analyzed to verify the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method. Both simulated and experimental results show that the proposed approach is able to detect the presence of structural mass and stiffness variation and to quantify the level of such changes.
This study aims to extract additional elements to the existing game value evaluation using Delphi technique to 23 game experts. As a result of reviewing the characteristics of the development model using the evaluation model of the existing game contents, it was found that the evaluation factor was selected when selecting the content. The Delphi analysis was conducted two times, the first was the expert FGI and the second was the Delphi questionnaire. More detailed elements were presented in the related items such as results, technology transfer and dissemination, and details for promoting commercialization. Through focus group interviews, we extracted additional factors and predicted market size, growth potential, regulatory and market appeal and risk through market analysis of content success in the game industry. This will allow the industry to understand market size, growth potential, regulation, market appeal and risk through a market analysis of its success targets. This study suggests that the proposed evaluation factors can be applied to the entire game and cultural contents industry and will also help to construct market factors such as market value evaluation of contents, goal and goal setting, selection of entry method, and strategic factors.

Recently, smart sensors are used in various environments, and the implementation of ad-hoc sensor networks (ASNs) is a hot research topic. Unfortunately, traditional sensor network routing algorithms focus on specific control issues, and they can't be directly applied to the ASN operation. In this paper, we propose a new routing protocol by using the Q-learning technology, Main challenge of proposed approach is to extend the life of ASNs through efficient energy allocation while obtaining the balanced system performance. The proposed method enhances the Q-learning effect by considering various environmental factors. When a transmission fails, node penalty is accumulated to increase the successful communication probability. Especially, each node stores the Q value of the adjacent node in its own Q table. Every time a data transfer is executed, the Q values are updated and accumulated to learn to select the optimal routing route. Simulation results confirm that the proposed method can choose an energy-efficient routing path, and gets an excellent network performance compared with the existing ASN routing protocols.

Conversion of rice paddy field to upland has been accelerated as the central government incentivizes more profitable upland crop cultivation. The objective of this study was to investigate the current status and conversion trend from paddy to upland for the reservoir irrigation districts. Total 605 of reservoir irrigation districts whose beneficiary area is greater than 200 ha were selected for paddy-to-upland conversion analysis using the land cover maps provided by the EGIS of the Ministry of Environment. The land cover data of 2019 was used to analyze up-to-date upland conversion status and its correlation with city proximity, while land cover change between 2007 and 2019 was used for paddy-to-upland conversion trend analysis. Overall 14.8% of the entire study reservoir irrigation area was converted to upland cultivation including greenhouse and orchard areas. Approximately the portion of paddy area was reduced by 17.8% on average, while upland area was increased by 4.9% over the 12 years from 2007 to 2019. This conversion from paddy to upland cultivation was more pronounced in the Gyoenggi and Gyeongsang regions compared to other the Jeolla and Chungcheong provinces. The increase of upland area was also more notable in proximity of the major city. This study findings may assist to identify some hot reservoir districts of the rapid conversion to upland cultivation and thus plan to transition toward upland irrigation system.
